Car parked in my assigned spot, what else can I do?

A parking one???

I live in a compound with several blocks of flats and assigned parking, clearly displayed in white painted number corresponding to your flat on each spot. There are however no lines separating the spaces, it relies on common sense Confused to park in a way that allows you to exit with a car parked next to you and vice versa.

I live in a section of 6 blocks, with 3 flats on either side of the road and parking spaces along the front of the buildings in sets of 2 (with hedges between).

In case it matters, I am the only one with a car in my set of 2 spaces, and we have visitor's parking that can accommodate 6 cars.

Since arriving home from a trip abroad 3 days ago, there has been a car parked in my spot. Not only that, but it has been so badly parked with a huge gap between the passenger side and the hedge that another car cannot fit into the neighbour's space.

I left a note wedged under the rear tire of their car as it's been raining nonstop since I arrived, saying that they were parked in my spot and please can park elsewhere. Btw, I was able to park in the visitors just fine, there is always space.

The next morning I left for work to find that they re-parked the car closer to the hedge, but still sat in my spot. I went off to work and did an overnight so only returned tonight.

The car is still in my spot, and once again badly parked so I can't even park next to them if I wanted. I'm at my wits end. How can people be so selfish? I've had to park near the top of the compound and lug my bags back and forth in the rain, but it shouldn't even matter as I should be able to park in my own spot!

I've sent an email off to the property management company but don't have much faith in even receiving a response or if they can even do anything.

What else can I do?

  • I rang the buzzers on the building in front of the space (which is the building next to me) and my own building. Only 4 people answered and none of them know who the car belongs to.
  • I also tried the car doors in the hopes of setting off an alarm and getting the fucker outside Blush but they don't have one.

Any other ideas?

I would contact Just Park first thing tomorrow

IGotItFromAgnes · 01/01/2024 21:55

If it is your neighbour renting out their space, and cars are just parking badly, is there anywhere you could put up a “Private Parking for XYZ” sign? Pretty much everyone here has one, but we have railings behind so it’s easy.

BrimfulOfMash · 01/01/2024 21:55

I would contact JustPark, and I would also send the Just park listing to the Property Management co. Check the small print if your lease first: there may be a stipulation against sub letting parking spaces. If so, point this out to the Mgt Co.

Good idea, I'll have a look into this.

Get a sign that says THIS IS NOT THE RENTAL SPACE.

chocolateisavegetable · 01/01/2024 22:01

It’s a parking thread, but no one has asked for a diagram …

Do you have a local rugby team OP?

OneMoreTime23 · 01/01/2024 22:01

Local rugby club would probably have it moved out of the space in about 3 minutes.

PamelaParis · 01/01/2024 21:38

You need to chill the fuck out. There are plenty other spaces available for you to park in and the car will move eventually.

Are you ok?

CrapBucket · 01/01/2024 22:01

I’d probably try bouncing it, not legal - but effective…

kittensinthekitchen · 01/01/2024 22:01

Bit off topic.... but why wedge a note under the rear tyre?

Would anyone notice that?

FUPAgirl · 01/01/2024 22:05

OP this is absolutely ridiculous 🙄 what an asshole! I hope JustPark sort this for you.

In the meantime, definitely park in front if you can. Or can you be annoying and leave your bins in front of it? I assume people can leave a review? Some bad reviews would be helpful!

Daisymay2 · 01/01/2024 22:05

Second what PP said, contact Just Park ASAP, but send a copy of the Just Park listing to the Managing agents. There is often a restriction on renting car parking spaces on leasehold properties. We have had issues on a development next to the station where a tenant was renting out a visitors space.
IME, Just Park were quite good, although the Managing Agent also wrote formally and asked them to ensure that they rejected all listings for the development.

It was the tire most visible as they parked nose in.

It's not the best idea I admit, but I'd just landed after a flight with no sleep and wasn't thinking clearly. I've now placed another note in a plastic ziploc under the read windshield wiper.

Ok so just opened JustPark and as I can actually reserve a space and then cancel for a full refund, I did.

But the number that comes up is nowhere near me (or the space shown on the map?) Confused so I can't necessarily say it's the account holder's fault.

There are a few spots dotted around the compound but that means paying to reserve them all to check if they're close and then cancelling.

For now I've placed the note in a bag under their windshield wiper making it clear that it is a private spot.

I was back home late and am out early tomorrow so I can't wait them out, nor do I think blocking them in will be effective as they probably wouldn't even notice.

If they're still here tomorrow night though I might have to ramp it up. Hopefully I'll hear back from the management company and I can also ring them if not.

Thanks for the helpful tips, I'll now take that wonderful PP's advice and 'chill the fuck out' for the rest of tonight.

Entitled klaxon!

CheekyLittleElf · 01/01/2024 22:25

I'd say a note in a plastic bag attached via a kitchen knife through the bonnet might get their attention.

Joke, of course.

Do you have a Facebook page for the compound / your immediate local area?

Ours is always full of 'whoever has parked this car in this stupid place / on my drive can they please bugger off?!'

I'm on next door, not that I ever go on! But I'll have a look on there, see how busy it is. Unfortunately no FB page

Leave a note in their windscreen

I think we may have found out who’s parked there ^

You might want to say that to whoever is parking in her spot, which presumably she has paid for through management fees.

Bottle of olive oil on the windscreen
