Car parked in my assigned spot, what else can I do?

A parking one???

I live in a compound with several blocks of flats and assigned parking, clearly displayed in white painted number corresponding to your flat on each spot. There are however no lines separating the spaces, it relies on common sense Confused to park in a way that allows you to exit with a car parked next to you and vice versa.

I live in a section of 6 blocks, with 3 flats on either side of the road and parking spaces along the front of the buildings in sets of 2 (with hedges between).

In case it matters, I am the only one with a car in my set of 2 spaces, and we have visitor's parking that can accommodate 6 cars.

Since arriving home from a trip abroad 3 days ago, there has been a car parked in my spot. Not only that, but it has been so badly parked with a huge gap between the passenger side and the hedge that another car cannot fit into the neighbour's space.

I left a note wedged under the rear tire of their car as it's been raining nonstop since I arrived, saying that they were parked in my spot and please can park elsewhere. Btw, I was able to park in the visitors just fine, there is always space.

The next morning I left for work to find that they re-parked the car closer to the hedge, but still sat in my spot. I went off to work and did an overnight so only returned tonight.

The car is still in my spot, and once again badly parked so I can't even park next to them if I wanted. I'm at my wits end. How can people be so selfish? I've had to park near the top of the compound and lug my bags back and forth in the rain, but it shouldn't even matter as I should be able to park in my own spot!

I've sent an email off to the property management company but don't have much faith in even receiving a response or if they can even do anything.

What else can I do?

  • I rang the buzzers on the building in front of the space (which is the building next to me) and my own building. Only 4 people answered and none of them know who the car belongs to.
  • I also tried the car doors in the hopes of setting off an alarm and getting the fucker outside Blush but they don't have one.

Any other ideas?

That is such shit parking, why not use the next space over if it's too difficult to see the curb? 😂

Abbimae · 02/01/2024 20:37

block it in

You need to chill the fuck out. There are plenty other spaces available for you to park in and the car will move eventually.

Spot the person who has no idea how to empathise but would be the first to complain dramatically if it happened to her

Serenitymummy · 02/01/2024 23:05

That's definitely Pamela's car isn't it! 🤔

Teledeluxe · 02/01/2024 23:05

Block it in. If the owner knocks on the door answer with a glass in your hand and say you’re on a week long bender so can’t move your car.

Not the point- it’s not their space. Shouldn’t be using it. Full stop

Scared to google 😂

It’s a reference to The Big Bang Theory. The whole episode centres on one character using another character’s assigned parking spot. Then one of them sits on the other’s leather sofa while nude and wiggles. The other gets into the offending car and gives a big nude wiggle. The title is the way that the main character describes why he wants his leather sofa cushion cleaned to the man in the dry cleaners.
I love TBBT, but maybe you had to be there 🤣

momager1 · 03/01/2024 11:25

I was just about to reply about the big bang theory.. LOL> Sheldon does not own a car, howard gets a car and parks in sheldon's spot at the university. All hell breaks loose! Howard nude wiggles on sheldon's spot on the sofa, Sheldon nude wiggles on the seat of Howard's new car , the ladies back up their men which ends with Penny caught in the middle and smacked in the nose with Amy's very heavy purse that was aimed at Bernadette. I suggest you get a big bag and fill it with coins so you can swing it at the CF car parker.

SinnerBoy · 03/01/2024 11:31

I've not seen much TBBT, but have recently been watching "Young Sheldon" with my (ten year old) daughter. It's really rather good.

momager1 · 03/01/2024 11:31

hahahaha.

There’s always one.
Many people in blocks pay for their spaces.

momager1 · 03/01/2024 11:52

@SinnerBoy fun fact. In the BBT Sheldon's mother Mary is played by Laurie Metcalf. In Young Sheldon, his mother is played by her daughter Zoe Perry

Ah that IS a fun fact. I love TBBT and only saw YS a few times, but thought the casting of the mother was brilliant. Now I know why! 😁

You could always buy some road marking paint and spray in some lines. That would make your bays easier to identify.

Loiteringwithoutintent · 03/01/2024 18:27

Paint their windscreen and door handles with sugar water. It won't do any harm but will be annoying. Push a black rag into the exhaust: the car will peter out every few hundred yards and it is hard to spot.Or leave a message saying next time you find it there, you'll lock the wheel, then do it.

If you have some money to spare, install a locking post.

Shade17 · 03/01/2024 18:33

you'll lock the wheel, then do it.

DON’T do this unless you want a criminal record.

Oooh, OK PamelaParis, is that how YOU operate!!

Where is the bay labelled as named resident only parking? I'd have thought it would be visible in the neighbouring space

I don’t know why it didn’t show, I assume the angle I was at behind the offender blocked it out. This is what it looks like at night with lights on it. The photo was taken purposely blurry to help obscure the numbers

I’m guessing Pamela Paris has a guilty conscience, been parking where you shouldn’t? 😂😂

Thinking2022 · 03/01/2024 20:22

Maybe try typing the registration into the DVLA in case the car is registered to the address and then could drop note to the address to explain? Otherwise Bollards in your space?

Isinglass20 · 03/01/2024 20:32

Is your numbered parking space included in your long residential lease ? Does your service charge include maintenance costs for upkeep of car park ie keep boundaries painted etc? If so telephone the management company named on your lease and report this misdemeanour. If a flat owner is letting out his space then it means it is included in his lease of ownership and by not ensuring that cars are parked in the space owned by him causes you inconvenience and loss of peace and enjoyment and blocks access to your flat. You need to read your lease.
you need to check what your service charge is being spent on and whether maintenance of car park is included in your service charge or whether a separate estate charge payable to the freeholder and whether that is the management co or someone else.

I had this year's ago! Went on for weeks and drove me mad! Management didn't do anything, and tempting as it was to smash it 😂 I didn't want to risk a criminal record! So one weekend me and a friend blocked them in and made arrangements for the Monday morning as well so he would stay blocked in when he supposedly needed to be at work. Sure enough, 8am on the monday the flat buzzer was going. I put on my headphones and did my uni work all friggin day and only moved my car as late as possible Tuesday. The car was never in my spot again.
