AIBU to wear leopard print ??

I love leopard print (not tight Bet Lynch style) but just the print on a midi dress for instance or the Veja white trainers with hints of leopard. Don’t have that many items but do have few summer style dresses. We are away and last night I wore one of my favourite dresses. Was pretty expensive and is a loose style midi dress which I find super comfy and is really flattering. Friends have all complimented it but husband was in a grump and just said “what are you wearing?”. Bit pissed off as had managed to actually wash hair and do make up and thought looked pretty nice for New Year’s Eve dinner at hotel (always difficult to get ready whilst also looking after 3 kids).

he then kept going on about how he hates leopard print and that it’s really trashy. Really ruined the evening as he was being such a prick. He genuinely wanted me to go and change, obviously I didn’t. Please tell me I’m not being unreasonable??? I don’t care if he didn’t compliment something he doesn’t like but surely he was dick to go on about how he hated it?

he said that I shouldn’t wear something he hates…

Wear what you like! I don’t like any kind of animal print and neither does DH but he would never comment negatively on what I wear.

skippy67 · 01/01/2024 09:18

I think the leopard print is the least of your problems...

GalileoHumpkins · 01/01/2024 09:18

You have a husband problem not a leopard print problem.

ItAintGonnaGoDownEasyIfItAintCheezy · 01/01/2024 09:22

Did he want to be somewhere with someone else op?

I presume there are other problems with him?

Why else would he be such a dick?

Winniespooh · 01/01/2024 09:31

Leopard print is great, your husband is not.

AhBiscuits · 01/01/2024 09:33

I love a bit of leopard print on my trainers.

CharlottePimpernel · 01/01/2024 09:35

I love leopard print. I've got a big faux leopard coat, it's beautiful. Wear your lovely leopard print.
Your husband is a knob though.

ManateeFair · 01/01/2024 09:35

Leopard print is bloody brilliant. Your husband is an arsehole.

KarenNotAKaren · 01/01/2024 09:37

What a weirdo.

Trashy? My DD has been wearing it since she was about 3. Only trashy thing about this situation is his attitude. I have no time for men who ever describe women as trashy for what they wear.

fromhellsheartistabatthee · 01/01/2024 09:43

Tell him you'll stop wearing leopard print when he stops being a twat.

ZenNudist · 01/01/2024 09:45

Animal print fan here. It's ubiquitous for a reason. Your dh is a twat.

Omgwhatthehell · 01/01/2024 09:54

I had an ex in my 20’s who had this weird anti leopard attitude. Told me I looked like Bet Lynch.
It turned out to be a ~one of many~ red flag. I wear leopard all the time now!

JMSA · 01/01/2024 09:55

I love a bit of leopard print.

Your husband was being a dick.

Yep. Always amazes me how these threads start with women questioning their clothes, hair, weight (thoughts, feelings, opinions …), just because a bloke is being a gigantic bellend.

You obviously looked and felt great in your dress, OP, and he wanted to bring you down for whatever reason (jealousy, control?). Does he have form for being a dick to you when you’re happy and having fun? Because posts like yours always seem to be the tip of the iceberg.

jackstini · 01/01/2024 09:58

I have a few animal print things - like you say, not full on Bet Lynch, but that's where a lot of people go for reference - yawn

YADNBU - wear whatever sparks joy in you!

I have a grey LP dress, a satin LP skirt & a black T-shirt with LO hearts on. I always feel good in all of them. I'm 51

StrawberryWater · 01/01/2024 09:59

“What I choose to wear is none of your fucking business”

Problem solved.

SadSandwich · 01/01/2024 10:01

Is he ever kind to you OP

jackstini · 01/01/2024 10:01

PS - post a pic, I bet loads on here will love it

Your H was pissed off you put your preferences ahead of his. He needs to keep his mouth shut if he's going to be rude!

Squiggles23 · 01/01/2024 10:01

He’s probably thinking of Kat Slater in Eastenders when he says it’s trashy! Or the Corrie lady you mentioned before.

It’s absolutely not though, I love a bit of leopard and animal print. Based on how much the shops sell it, it’s not trashy at all!

If he’s normally not like that I think he’s probably just really associated leopard print with the soap characters from the 90’s.

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/01/2024 10:04

Animal print is a fave of mine. I don’t wear more than one piece but I have:
faux fur leopard coat( he’d love the trashiness)
kitten heels
midi shirt dress
rucsac
belt
I think you’ll probably find his mum had these views. Get him a few fashion magazines.

DewHopper · 01/01/2024 10:04

I think that any animal print looks gross OP (but lovely on animals) and would never wear it. BUT - your choice to wear whatever you want and your problem is your husband not your clothes.

hanahsaunt · 01/01/2024 10:06

Just as you are entitled to wear it, he is entitled to hate it. You expressed your opinion as did he.

Gross? Really?

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/01/2024 10:08

He can express an opinion @hanahsaunt but going on about it and expecting her to change is not acceptable.

43ontherocksporfavor · 01/01/2024 10:11

It’s how you wear it.
How is this shirt trashy looking?
