AIBU to wear leopard print ??

I love leopard print (not tight Bet Lynch style) but just the print on a midi dress for instance or the Veja white trainers with hints of leopard. Don’t have that many items but do have few summer style dresses. We are away and last night I wore one of my favourite dresses. Was pretty expensive and is a loose style midi dress which I find super comfy and is really flattering. Friends have all complimented it but husband was in a grump and just said “what are you wearing?”. Bit pissed off as had managed to actually wash hair and do make up and thought looked pretty nice for New Year’s Eve dinner at hotel (always difficult to get ready whilst also looking after 3 kids).

he then kept going on about how he hates leopard print and that it’s really trashy. Really ruined the evening as he was being such a prick. He genuinely wanted me to go and change, obviously I didn’t. Please tell me I’m not being unreasonable??? I don’t care if he didn’t compliment something he doesn’t like but surely he was dick to go on about how he hated it?

he said that I shouldn’t wear something he hates…

If he does this often I agree. It is possible though he has really got the wrong end of the stick about how embarrassing leopard print is or isn’t. If DH tried to come out in a gimp suit … I’d probably “bully” him a bit about it…

A leopard print dress is totally normal, acceptable wear for a dinner out in a mainstream setting. It doesn’t involve non consenting people in your kink.

This can’t be said of a gimp suit.

Apples and oranges.

Sorry but I have to agree with your husband…I think it’s really chavvy and screams working class. I feel bad admitting that out loud 🙊🙊🙊

Oh no! Not… Working Class?! 😮

CaineRaine · 01/01/2024 14:51

How dare he be such a bully OP, you wear what you like! FWIW, I love a bit of animal print on clothes and accessories, you crack on.

Firecarrier · 01/01/2024 14:51

I have absolutely no idea why and couldn't put into words but I DETEST leopard print and have an almost visceral reaction to it 😂 I don't feel like this about any other type of clothing people choose to wear even when. Not to my taste.

Very surprised that someone said their 3 year old wore it...

but he was rude.

Rich women wore dead animals over three decades ago shocker.

Maybe check the article first...
Some older pics yes, but plenty within the last decade and not dead animals - just animal print!

Fuck me, not working class

Leopard print is a neutral.

Your partner is a dickhead.

Amplissimo · 01/01/2024 16:07

It's not just the fact that he doesn't like the leopard print.

It's the fact that he twatted on about it to the point where he ruined what should have been a nice evening. What a rude and selfish prick.

OP was looking smart and nicely groomed and her DH thought that this was an appropriate time to be openly and repeatedly critical and spoil her fun?

Even if he doesn't like leopard print (and he'd have to have been living under a rock not to notice that it's moved on since the 1980s Bet Lynch stereotype), this was not the time and place to start bringing it up. Much less having a public strop and sulk when other people are trying to have a good time.

It's the DH who has shown a real lack of class here.

Sugarfish · 01/01/2024 16:09

Oh I love a bit of leopard print. My OH hates it, I don’t really care. It’s become a bit of a joke where if I buy something leopard print I’ll excitedly show him and he’ll roll his eyes and make a comment about not going out with me in that! He still does though. He’ll compliment how I look in an outfit and then add, shame it’s in that horrible pattern.

Ange1233556 · 01/01/2024 16:14

Thanks all! Sorry for the delay in replying I’ve been swanning around in my leopard bikini (yes really).

totally get the controlling comments but it’s not like that he’s just being a old fashioned knob head in this instance. After 15 years it’s not a LTB situation. I did tell him he was a prick and I couldn’t care less if he didn’t like it as I love it. He’s incredibly safe with clothes everything is black, navy or grey. Each to their own but I prefer more colour with clothes.

For a split second I did wonder if I was being unreasonable but it seems not. Thanks all!

You know what screams no class at all, or at best, desperately trying to appear at least MC? Comments like this.

Those with true class would never dream of passing comment on someone's clothing choices.

Rosiem2808 · 01/01/2024 17:45

Please could we have a pic of the offending dress and will it be on Vinted soon OP? Only joking.. he's a meanie
