Midnight fireworks

AIBU to think that neighbours should warn other neighbours that they are letting off midnight fireworks? I’m talking quiet village setting here not a busy town or city. I genuinely think it’s really inconsiderate and rude.

It's NYE. Sorry, but they are to be expected tonight, so no, I wouldn't expect to be warned on this occasion. Understand it can be a bit annoying if you are trying to sleep, but people do want to celebrate the start of a new year

They've been going off near me since it got dark. The dogs a nervous wreck.
I fucking hate fireworks being let off by Fuckwits in their gardens, selfish inconsiderate bunch of cunts.

Fireworks should be banned from sale to general public. Professional, organised displays only.

Fireworks are illegal here, unless for professional, authorised displays - people still get hold of them and set them off themselves.
Luckily it does seem to cut down on the volume and they only went off for about half an hour here, all seems quiet now.

How many neighbours should they inform ?

Fireworks can be heard and seen for a long way.

everymirror · 01/01/2024 00:24

I don't mind it reminds me I'm still alive

COL crisis, what COL crisis.

Shock horror…Some people aren’t too badly affected by it. Mind blowing stuff right?!

BIossomtoes · 01/01/2024 00:27

It would be surprising if there weren’t fireworks tonight.

lap90 · 01/01/2024 00:28

There's nothing to be warned about. It's NYE. We all know that there will be fireworks whether we like them or not.

daffodilandtulip · 01/01/2024 00:28

It's not unexpected but it's bloody annoying. The dog was fine on bonfire night but because it's so sudden and in the middle of the night when we're in bed, she's gone mental. Knocked over the side tables trying to hide under them, scratched me to pieces, raced around the house. It's half past now and no sign of ending.

Chickitychick · 01/01/2024 00:28

Ok so I’m unreasonable! I’ll admit defeat. First new year in this house and I’m shocked / never had these issues in other places before. I will be better prepared next year by not being here! Can’t take screaming woken up and scared kids again. All the poor dogs in this area too. I would never do any garden event and not warn neighbours - even like a birthday bbq in summer.
Lesson learnt.

Just had the most fantastic view of the whole cities fireworks from my ward. I love fireworks and yes I do have pets.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/01/2024 00:28

I live in a village and expected the brief fireworks at midnight. It was lovely actually as DD stayed up for the first time and we went outside. Wished the neighbour HNY who was outside awaiting being his family's first foot. Kids along the street all had sparklers.

3am in the middle of February fireworks might piss me off, but really not unexpected on NYE.

As another person said, it's a nice reminder that one is still alive (a friend's father passed away 24 hrs ago so quite poignant)

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 01/01/2024 00:30

I predicted fireworks would be let off at midnight so got my cat in at 11.45pm.
Will do the same on 5th November.
Simples!

FreeezePeach · 01/01/2024 00:30

A random BBQ doesn't really compare to most of the western world setting off fireworks on NYE.

DragonFly98 · 01/01/2024 00:31

Don't you have a calendar or a calendar app? That's your warning.

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 01/01/2024 00:32

Dear god! Again, there's always 1....or 2....

They started around 8 pm here.

Honeyglazed · 01/01/2024 00:34

Totally agree it’s just common courtesy

But on mumsnet yabu and should expect fireworks with no prior warning 🤷‍♀️

ithinkthatmaybeimdreaming · 01/01/2024 00:34

You need a warning that people will be letting off fireworks at midnight on NYE???? Confused

ChedderGorgeous · 01/01/2024 00:34

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/01/2024 00:16

We’ve had them going off for about 4 hours so far. Ddog is very distressed. Has a thunder coat on and Alexa doing white noise but she is in a state bless her. She has become so phobic with loud bangs now that even party poppers set her off.

"Ddog " 😂

Honeyglazed · 01/01/2024 00:35

Obv you expect fireworks nye but I don’t get why people can’t be considerate

Zanatdy · 01/01/2024 00:35

No, it’s obvious they are going to on NYE. My dog hates them but I know they are going to be going off tonight

My cat couldn't care less - but he wasn't impressed with the extremely loud thunder we had 40 minutes later!

Candleabra · 01/01/2024 00:38

YABU as it’s to be expected on NYE, but I do agree with you really.
It’s been non stop here since about 11. I do feel for people with small children or pets.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 01/01/2024 00:39

They woke both the kids up…. annoying as fuck, but it’s NYE so to be expected.

Hipnotised · 01/01/2024 00:42

Good job you don't live near the London Eye! 💥
