Took mine down yesterday.

My DD just wouldn't leave it alone so it's gone but I still have the lights round the windows

IamSmarticus · 31/12/2023 11:59

Mine came down on Friday.

Sirzy · 31/12/2023 11:59

Mine came down yesterday

Toomuchstuffeverywhere · 31/12/2023 12:00

Ahh ok so it seems def not too early? Is it bad luck or anything?

Mine came down on 27th. Mostly so I can start packing for my holiday though.

Heyhoherewegoagain · 31/12/2023 12:01

If it’s what you want to do, then the time’s right 😊

VanLife33 · 31/12/2023 12:02

Took my down 28th
Can't go into a new year with it up!

SquirmOfEels · 31/12/2023 12:02

Too early for me. I don't like to cut short Christmas, so decorations are still in situ for Twelfth Night and come down at Epiphany

On a practical note, council kerbside tree collections don't begin here until after 6th Jan

GrumpyPanda · 31/12/2023 12:04

Not till Epiphany. Which is also when they are collected locally.

Toomuchstuffeverywhere · 31/12/2023 12:05

@SquirmOfEels Gosh, would people really keep it up another week? We’re back to work/school Tuesday & Wednesday, seems bit weird to still have decorations etc
I feel a bit sad taking it all down, but also it’s such a mess and stuff just everywhere it’s annoying me now 🙈😂

Do what you want. All our decs came down yesterday. HATE starting a new year with them up, love it all fresh and nice and new.

DH did it while I was out - fine by me except for the fact that he just plonked all the nice decs in a big box loosely rolling around!! What’s the point in proper bauble storage boxes if you don’t use them ahhhhh!

worriedandworries · 31/12/2023 12:07

Ours came down today. I like to start the new year fresh and hate returning to work with the decorations up.

However im a early putter upper, so they're up last weekend of November until NYE

bluechameleon · 31/12/2023 12:07

There's no such thing as bad luck. But for me it is too early - I like to keep the decorations up for the whole Christmas holidays.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 31/12/2023 12:07

Did mine on the 27th cos we are away for new year.
Go for it op.

CoffeeWithCheese · 31/12/2023 12:09

Ours came down yesterday - the lights were interfering with the wifi and I wanted that fixed before I go back into work mode.
Currently having a row with DH who is determined that the tree box needs to be kept - despite it having passed beyond even the most ambitious definition of the word "box" about 5 years ago and now it's some random bits of cardboard and tape.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 31/12/2023 12:10

All down yesterday ready for a full house clean /sort/tidy before the year starts.

Ours were up from 26th November as it was the only free weekend we had before christmas, i don't normally do them that early. So I was bored of them now anyway!

Exactly this. I feel a bit sad taking the decs down so I leave them until Twelfth Night.

Our Christmas Tree collection isn't until the weekend of 13th / 14th Jan so it will be skulking about the back garden until then. Hope we don't get any strong winds.

Normandy144 · 31/12/2023 12:14

I take mine down at some point before the 6th Jan as traditionally that's the date they have to be down by. We're still in the 12 days of Christmas so I like to keep them up until at least after new year's day. We don't put ours up until the 2nd weekend in December though so I'm not sick of them to be honest.

ScarletWitchM · 31/12/2023 12:14

I always take them down on NYE, have a big clean up and go into the new year fresh and clean.

Nothing is ‘bad luck’. Taking your Christmas tree down will affect your fortunes in no way whatsoever.

I’ll probably take mine down tomorrow as I’m back at work on Tuesday.

Yes, it's very normal, indeed traditional

Funkyslippers · 31/12/2023 12:18

Why would it be too early for you or bring bad luck??

5foot5 · 31/12/2023 12:19

Ours were up from 26th November

@Normandy144 Wow that's early, we were about 2nd weekend in December.

It's an interesting thought though that maybe there is some optimal duration for decorations. I wonder if the people on this thread who have already removed them are the same people who put them up on 1st December or earlier. Whereas those of us clinging to them until Twelfth Night didn't put them up until much later.

Jingledog · 31/12/2023 12:22

Did mine just now. Might be too tired tmrw and hubby working next week and home with 2 under 3 so wouldn't get the chance before next weekend. Nice to have a bit of sparkle left on NYE but tbh want to go into January fresh with no Xmas tut still all around the house.

HelpMeGetThrough · 31/12/2023 12:22

Tree came down yesterday, all the other decorations was the day before.

We're a Christmas free zone.
