To take Christmas trees down?

When do you do yours?

I'll do mine next week sometime - I leave it as long as possible as I like it

If you don't like it then take it down - there is no law

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 31/12/2023 12:25

I love the decorations. But also, I find the "clutter" they cause a bit overwhelming. So while it might seem grinchy they go up 7/10 days before Christmas ( sometimes earlier if that's the only reasonable free time we have to do them) and they come down before NYE so we go into the new year clean and tidy. So they came down yesterday. Would have been Friday but we've all come down with Covid (happy new year to us!) and didn't have the energy.

Normandy144 · 31/12/2023 12:25

We have a real tree and so I can't fathom putting it up until the 2nd week of December. I think you are right though, there probably is some correlation between decorating earlier and bringing them down earlier.

LisaD1 · 31/12/2023 12:26

Took ours down on Friday, I like to go into new years with the house clean and ready for back to work.

PamelaParis · 31/12/2023 12:26

Mine will be up for another week. Looking at the twinkly lights will help me get through work next week (WFH).

Delphinepony · 31/12/2023 12:27

Mine is down. The only reason I'd keep tree and decorations up is if we were hosting a New Years Eve party, but we're not. Our house isn't big and it all gets in the way and I get fed up with it. I love the idea of going into next year all clear and clean too.

Pascha · 31/12/2023 12:28

We took ours down on 28th. Big clean through and freshen up. All kids stuff has been found places for and unwanted gifts have already gone out to the local charity drop.
The only thing left are the outside lights which will come down tomorrow probably.
Ds2 birthday is at the end of the week so we like to be clear long before then.

Beargrumps22 · 31/12/2023 12:29

as we were away over Christmas never got around to putting up any decs but I have to clear my shop off all the Christmas stock which is a right pain

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 31/12/2023 12:29

We did ours on Friday. I would happily keep it up longer, but DH gets frustrated at the sight of it by the end of boxing day! We still have our lights in the window though.

Noidontknowwhatiwant · 31/12/2023 12:31

Tree down yesterday it gets one month dec 1st to 31st but we are busy later

Terrribletwos · 31/12/2023 12:32

How do xmas lights interfere with wifi, just interested to know?

UseOfWeapons · 31/12/2023 12:37

Took mine down this morning, and cleaned the sitting room. Feels fab!

DobbyRuth · 31/12/2023 12:38

Mine’s down. The mess was stressing me out

Spaghettieis · 31/12/2023 12:40

Our stays up until Epiphany too.

WashItTomorrow · 31/12/2023 12:44

I wouldn’t dream of taking it down before 12th Night, 6th Jan. The three kings haven’t turned up yet! We’re only halfway through Christmas-time. And I might keep it till Candlemas, 2nd Feb.

5foot5 · 31/12/2023 12:46

Interesting fact. I have heard that the late Queen used to leave the Christmas decorations up in Sandringham until February 6th,the anniversary of her father's death.

Wonder whether the King will stick to that?

Toomuchstuffeverywhere · 31/12/2023 12:00

Ahh ok so it seems def not too early? Is it bad luck or anything?

How would that work? Is luck going round looking into windows to see who still has the decs up 😂

Dontcallmescarface · 31/12/2023 12:46

My decorations (we don't have a tree), will be down tomorrow. I've been back at work since Thursday and DP goes back on Tuesday, so it's the start of things going back to normal again.

Bloom15 · 31/12/2023 12:46

Leave ours up until around the 6th of January. I don't want to be thinking of going back to work yet either.

For those who say it needs to come down so everything is fresh and clean for the New Year - why don't think that? My house is clean with the tree

Baffledandalarmed · 31/12/2023 12:47

Took mine down yesterday! TBH as soon as Christmas is done I want it gone. I prefer the build up to Christmas rather than Christmas itself as every year it ends up being a bit crap (high expectations and all that). So, I tend to have my tree up from about 15th November - 28/29/30 December.

Tebheag · 31/12/2023 12:47

Celebrating Christmas so stays up till 12th night.

PGmicstand · 31/12/2023 12:47

Probably another week before I take it down. It'd an artificial one so no needle drop. I like how it looks and can't be arsed to start packing up the decorations when I could be sitting around eating chocolate.

How is Christmas “done”? It runs from 25th Dec to 6th Jan? We’re right in the middle.
