CF ILS - anyone else want to vent?

Cooked and hosted Christmas dinner for in-laws as well as my family including my 2 small children (also currently 12 weeks pregnant).

In-laws asked what they could "bring" earlier in Dec, I said nothing really as I had it ordered from Ocado.

By this MIL assumed it was all prepared as her response was "how lovely, Christmas in a box", throughout the day she continued to question what I had made and what had come "done".

We agreed they would bring "drinks"...

Considering there were 7 adults and 2 children, any guesses what they turned up with...?!

FFS just tell us now. It's been HOURS. no more guessing

Distantview · 31/12/2023 14:30

I was thinking about starting a thread about who else had endured CF relatives and acquaintances this Christmas.

It's quite telling when you hear that people have only invited them for a limited time - @hookiewookie29 's BIL sounds like my half-cousin and also like a boring single man (BSM) I know through a sports clubs I go to.

Greedy BSM has taken to turning up to our women's league matches to 'support' us and then hangs around in the clubhouse afterwards to hoover up the players' sandwiches and cake. I want to tell him to fuck off, but the other players are more accepting, so I've kept quiet.

We saw BSM just after Christmas and it became evident his own brother and SIL had only invited him for a few hours on Christmas Day. By Boxing Day, he was trying to latch onto other people at a local event with free food. He's perfectly capable of work btw and runs his own small business. Unsurprisingly, he's divorced.

A gin in a tin, the dogs bowl balanced on MILs lap and a half empty bottle of angostura bitters?

2jacqi · 31/12/2023 14:36

well everyone!!! @CheshGirl made her post at 11.44am and has not come back to reply!!! bloody annoying!

Before my ILs moved a blessedly long way away we'd have them over for lunch once a month. Sometimes I would do a Mexican style meal of fajitas, chilli con carne, guacamole, salsa etc. MIL would without fail comment that it was 'so easy - your signature dish' Hmm

Ha - my MIL always raves about the water (tap) we serve in a jug at mealtimes; "such good quality" apparently, and says nothing about the home cooked dishes!

NewBrightonEel · 31/12/2023 14:40

One bottle of Shloer?

NortieTortie · 31/12/2023 14:40

Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps?

Howbizarre22 · 31/12/2023 14:01

Was just being facetious as we are having to wait way too long for OP to tell us what her family brought to the party. Come on OP!?

Oh, OK.😏 Just had to know. That's a strange one though. Wtf. Out of curiosity DID anybody else's dh have one, 😆 just so I can let my dh know he's supposed to have one 😫

noctu · 31/12/2023 14:43

A nebuchadnezzar of Moet and a couple of bottles of Macallan?

Nubbled · 31/12/2023 14:46

A bottle of sweet sherry and nothing for the kids, as there is water in the tap for them.

Worriednow21 · 31/12/2023 14:55

A bottle of orange squash

Katherineryan1986 · 31/12/2023 14:59

My sister was asked to contribute mince pies, she made them herself, they were lovely. However she only brought 5 and there were 6 people! I expected her to bring a dozen at least.

Ohnotyoutoo · 31/12/2023 15:06

They either brought nothing or a giant ham.

Come back to the thread, OP otherwise I'm reporting it for wasting my time.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 31/12/2023 15:06

A six pack of beer and three cans of coke (one of which is for you since you're pregnant)?

Mywhoopdeedoo · 31/12/2023 15:11

A donkey with 3 legs called Frank ?

PuffyShirt · 31/12/2023 15:14

If they’re like my family, enough booze to see us through the entire festive period. If like my in laws, nothing or possibly a bottle of lambrini won in a tombola.

Very poor form btw OP, updates should be prompt.

I don’t think so 😆 most guys went to the bathroom to wash it after 🤣🤣🤣 if you Google the thread I’m sure it’s still there for laughs. Personally it’d put me off him forever 😆

Bracksonsboss · 31/12/2023 15:23

Bored of waiting for the answer.

MrsMitford3 · 31/12/2023 15:30

I think @CheshGirl is laying on a chaise lounges being fed peeled grapes by MIL and everyone quaffing Bolly and having a lovely time.

DC with Norland Nanny gifted by IL's and Raymond Blanc is in the kitchen

Otherwise surely she'd be back?

I will do just that, 😊

LakieLady · 31/12/2023 15:44

Well, it clearly wasn't a case of vintage Veuve Clicqout and a bottle of Macallan Double Cask, or the OP would have been back to tell us.

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/12/2023 15:44

Serene135 · 31/12/2023 13:20

Did they bring a periscope?

LOL!

😂

Touché!

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/12/2023 15:46

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/12/2023 13:26

A dusty bottle of wine unearthed from the back of the cupboard and a bottle of lemonade for the kids

Ooooh!

I know, I know! <waves hand>

Sanatogen!

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 31/12/2023 15:47

Op has clearly forgot she started this thread. I think we should all agree that a previous posters guess of a 2l bottle of White Lightening is the correct answer. I need to get on with my life, MY inlaws are approaching....😆

You can still get White Lightening? 😮
