To shamelessly ask for films to watch with kick ass women in

Just that really. IKIABU for misusing the AIBU area but I know there is a lot of traffic here and some kick ass women on here regularly who might know some great kick ass women films.

Context is I’m peri and totally rethinking how I want the last chapters of my life to look. I have been enjoying films and series with women front and centre - doing their thing regardless.

Pretty much all films have kick ass women in it now. Great, compared with when nearly every woman was portrayed as simpering and unthreatening even if they were secretly kick ass, as it seemed when I was growing up in the 1980s. But I now prefer seeing women portrayed just as realistically a bit crap at times, as we all are. Or being allowed to seriously misbehave.

Oh, I forgot Fried Green Tomatoes!

Don't think I've seen I May Destroy You mentioned. Not a film, a BBC series. Brutal but kick ass too in its unflinching honesty. SO much to recognise and 🙌 💅🏽at Michaela Coel. SHE's uber kick ass.

Not a film, but Ozark on Netflix. So many strong female characters, it's awesome

Yes this is a great suggestion. And the lawyer dresses very well. Grin

Best line ever!!!

Ripley and Hicks (🥰) flirting over heavy weapons:
"What's this?" (Indicating the rocket launcher)
"Oh, I don't think you should mess with that."
"Show me everything. I can handle myself."
Hicks, with a wry look. "I noticed."

Sound of Music- kick ass nuns, what's not to like?

mrwalkensir · 19/12/2023 21:25

Apologies if already mentioned (long thread) but again on Netflix, and Korean. "Sweet Home" and "Kingdom" both have decent age-ranges as well as strong female characters.

OneFingerOneThumbKeepMoving · 19/12/2023 21:32

Great film about 3 black women mathematicians and their struggle to be recognized and their success. A true story.

I believe Lessons in Chemistry has been made into a series

In the 'I'm on' section, all I could see of your pay was 'Yes! Yes! Yes!'. I thought you were going to say 'When Harry met Sally' 😁

Haha, that made me chuckle. No, I just think the series is amazing. It should be mandatory viewing for all teenagers I think as it takes such a good look about the issues of sex and consent. I've never seen anything quite like it and a lot of it really resonated with me (and with a number of other women). I just think Michaela Coel is so astute and talented. And she is definitely a bad ass as she turned down $1m to make sure she could keep her creative control, the rights to her own work and a seat at the exec table. I just think she is awesome.

Oh, that's interesting, I'll definitely look it up. I recently saw the film 'How to have Sex' which has similar themes and I felt should be essential viewing for teenagers!
