To shamelessly ask for films to watch with kick ass women in

Slightlyboredandseverlyconfused · 18/12/2023 14:22

Just that really. IKIABU for misusing the AIBU area but I know there is a lot of traffic here and some kick ass women on here regularly who might know some great kick ass women films.

Context is I’m peri and totally rethinking how I want the last chapters of my life to look. I have been enjoying films and series with women front and centre - doing their thing regardless.

Killing eve

Series 1 of Fargo

GLOW on Netflix is great and fun. women finding their own way in the misogynistic world of the 80s

Money Heist - It’s a Spanish language series on Netflix, cheesy fun heist but some really great kick ass women in it.

I loved the live action Mulan -
on that note House of Flying Daggers, crouching tiger hidden dragon

the woman king

ozark - takes a while but Wendy becomes formidable (and scary)

Mollys game with Jessica chastain

everything everywhere all at once

Unsure if it’s been mentioned already but Tarantino’s Jackie Brown. Absolutely love that film.

morechaimama · 18/12/2023 16:05

Eat Pray Love....Fried Green Tomatoes...Thelma and Louise (You Get What You Settle For has been my motto for the last few years 👌)

Squirrelsnut · 18/12/2023 16:07

Jolt with Kate Beckinsale, particularly if you have PMT..

SumthingAndNuthing · 18/12/2023 16:14

I enjoyed Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot, also the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with Rooney Mara (but that may be a bit dark).

Agree Three Billboards is a great film too

thing47 · 18/12/2023 16:15

Kick-Ass? 😀 Chloe Grace Moretz might not be the star but she steals the show.

Loved The Queen's Gambit, another vote for that.

EmpressSoleil · 18/12/2023 16:15

On prime, run sweetheart run. Brilliant film.

I thought The Woman King with Viola Davis was fantastic but I'm not sure where to watch it.

It’s on Now movies - Now TV has an offer for 7 days free movies and Boost (no ads) when you take a month’s tv subscription at £6.99. Good thing with Now is that you can cancel any time.

L353A1 · 18/12/2023 16:31

The more recent one with Kristen Stewart is even better.

L353A1 · 18/12/2023 16:34

Wonder Woman (the first one not the sequel)
Ava, with Jessica Chastain,
Anything with Gina Carano in it
Anna, with Helen Mirren in it
Sense8 has a female martial arts character in it

Also: Marisa Tomei is pretty fab in My Cousin Vinnie

Ted27 · 18/12/2023 16:38

African Queen - Katherine Hepburn

Now Voyager - Bette Davis

Yes! Tarantino's best film and Pam Grier is so good.
Some great suggestions here. I'll second Joan Hickson as Miss Marple.

Buggy the Vampire Killer 🙂

I second Thelma and Louise.

Alien?

About the only two I can really think of.
which says everything.

Aliens (the sequel) even more.

Warrior Nun on Netflix (big fun)

The Americans on channel 4 (morally complex).

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (not the film)

And, of course, Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2.

So many brilliant suggestions already on here - adding my vote for "9-5", "Spy" and "Wednesday". If you fancy a detective series I really enjoyed "Mrs Sidhu Investigates" on UKTV/Drama I think (free) where the main character is a middle aged caterer who discovers a knack for solving mysteries.

Also "Waitress" which I think is severely underrated. It's more sweet than a lot of the other films on here but it's very satisfying.
