To shamelessly ask for films to watch with kick ass women in

Just that really. IKIABU for misusing the AIBU area but I know there is a lot of traffic here and some kick ass women on here regularly who might know some great kick ass women films.

Context is I’m peri and totally rethinking how I want the last chapters of my life to look. I have been enjoying films and series with women front and centre - doing their thing regardless.

Also if you have Netflix you could try Extraordinary Attorney Woo - the story of an autist Korean lawyer - not exactly kick ass but still impressive

NashvilleQueen · 18/12/2023 15:13

Barbie?

Slightlyboredandseverlyconfused · 18/12/2023 15:14

Oh wow. I wasn’t expecting many responses. This is great.

I just rewatched Erin Brocovitch which made me post.

Hidden Figures I loved as well.

That’s a great list. Thank you. Just what I need.

The Accussed - Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis
Panic Room - Jodie Foster

I think Joan Hickson in MIss Marple is right up there

granhands1 · 18/12/2023 15:16

I enjoyed Prey, the newest predator film, and I always recommend Whip it, also Oceans Eight

RomeoOscarXrayXray · 18/12/2023 15:20

Not a film, but Star Trek Voyager. Kick Ass female Captain.

MuggleMe · 18/12/2023 15:20

I like the queens gambit for women breaking the glass ceiling kind of kick ass.

PacmanIsLost · 18/12/2023 15:21

I really loved Good Luck to you, Leo Grand.
Really powerful film. Emma Thompson is brilliant in it.

theraininspainfallsmainlyontheplane · 18/12/2023 15:24

Killing Eve!

Barbie?

I second this although it's a bit Kenheavy 😃

MassageForLife · 18/12/2023 15:28

Wild with Reese Witherspoon.

Orange Osage County

Zero Dark Thirty

Lavender14 · 18/12/2023 15:31

I thought The Woman King with Viola Davis was fantastic but I'm not sure where to watch it.

herewegoroundthebastardbush · 18/12/2023 15:33

Fried Green Tomatoes At the Whistle Stop Cafe.

StamppotAndGravy · 18/12/2023 15:38

1670 on Netflix. It's a short series of half hour episodes about a family in Poland. All the characters are ridiculous, but the daughter and mother are excellently kick arse dealing with the stupid men in their lives

BigFatLiar · 18/12/2023 15:38

Mrsjayy · 18/12/2023 14:33

and also I know it was slammed and remade with men <sigh> but the female Ghost busters film has great characters in it and its a bit silly but we enjoyed it..

Is there another ghostbusters? The original films from the eighties were ok. The remake with the main characters as women was poor, not down to then just seemed to pale against the memory of the original.

there was 1 earlier this year with Paul Rudd which I've not seen.

BigFatLiar · 18/12/2023 15:40

If not already on the list I'd add 'Lucy'. If you don't mind black and white 'Carve Her Name With Pride'.

Gillyyy · 18/12/2023 15:42

First Wives Club, with Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler, and a young Sarah Jessica Parker in an early role.

DecayedStrumpet · 18/12/2023 15:43

Everything Everywhere All At Once - I mean there's the surreal save-the-multiverse martial arts stuff, but it's also about a knackered, broke working mum dealing with demanding old folks, stroppy teen, and ineffectual husband

aussiechick01 · 18/12/2023 15:44

Peppermint (with Jennifer Garner)

this rattled my brain I had to have a lie down afterwards!

Puppalicious · 18/12/2023 15:50

I thought Spy was pretty funny, and has a great middle aged heroine.
I’m presuming you don’t want superheros but if you don’t mind, the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever, is full of strong women.

EdgarsTale · 18/12/2023 15:50

Nyad

ConstitutionHill · 18/12/2023 15:51

The Last Seduction

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 18/12/2023 15:52

Definitely Killing Eve ticks the kick ass box. Jodie Corner is brilliant in it.

Love Mad Max Fury Road too.
