How often? Settle a debate on what constitutes 'normal' and what's excessive please.

@gamerchick

The reason I didn't 'start' is because I was told by the other party not to pose the question in a leading way, so as to avoid any bias. 🙄
I hoover the entire house daily, as we have four youngish children and pets. Apparently this is 'nuts' and should be done once a week. But I know that if I left it a couple of days it would look dirty and my anxiety would be through the roof.

Tbh I think whoever thinks you don't need to hoover that much is nuts.

I hoover daily. Deep clean once a week (pull the furniture out, dust, hoover, clean the floors/polish them).

For me, it's a combination of being house proud and not wanting to live in filth tbh.

I think hoovering less than once a week is a bit grim. Particularly areas like the dining room/kitchen etc, where food gets dropped on the floor. Needs to be more than once a week (ideally daily) if you have pets because of fur/dirt etc.

Lourdes12 · 16/12/2023 20:37

Once a week, sometimes every two weeks. We’re a family of 4 with two young kids

NotToYou · 16/12/2023 20:38

Upstairs once a week, downstairs the robot does it daily

melmos · 16/12/2023 20:39

I aim for weekly but it doesn't always happen - I am going to get a robot hoover so it can be done most nights that's because of our the dogs though

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 16/12/2023 20:39

Hoover once a week but we only have carpet upstairs, sweep the kitchen and hall daily and under the finding table when there are bits, not often as DC are not young and aren’t messy. Pull up all the rugs etc in the front an dining room and sweep properly once per week

DidIMakeaMistake · 16/12/2023 20:40

Entire house once a week; porch, hallway, kitchen and lounge probably every day!

RedRobyn2021 · 16/12/2023 20:40

I would say once a week was the norm

We hoover downstairs everyday because we have a lab and she sheds

RampantIvy · 16/12/2023 20:41

Our house gets vacummed and dusted once a week. It is not filthy. Two clean adults who aren't careless do not create enough dirt to require vacuuming daily.

LaSpuddle · 16/12/2023 20:41

Depends on many factors but in a family home I’d say high traffic/crumb drop areas daily, everywhere else you may be able to get away with weekly

Mrsm010918 · 16/12/2023 20:42

Downstairs daily because the cat likes to leave black fluff everywhere overnight on a cream carpet.

Upstairs every 2-3 weeks

Grimfoxx · 16/12/2023 20:43

If it makes you feel better, I’ve vacuumed downstairs three times today. My kids are messy as fuck.

Lovetotravel123 · 16/12/2023 20:44

Those who hoover every day, how do you have time? Do you not work? I have time to hoover one room a day because I work full time out of the house.

You don't have dogs though. OP (and I) do. Therefore the cleaning needs are different.

The fact that her friend/partner/barman thinks that anyone with FOUR children and pets doesn't need to clean that much is nuts.

CyberCritical · 16/12/2023 20:44

Once a week or whenever DD gets out the glitter, though I've started just handing her the hoover now and telling her to crack on.

Chalkdowns · 16/12/2023 20:44

The kitchen and hallway probably daily or every other day. The rest of the overly large house every 10 days or when the dust starts to annoy me on the bedside table. That’s the sign it’s overdue.

Robot

DaftyInTheMiddle · 16/12/2023 20:46

Just hoover how often works best for you. Once a week is fine here

Gaggley · 16/12/2023 20:47

Once a week, although I do sometimes think the lounge and hall could do with twice a week, particularly since getting a long haired cat, but I rarely actually bother! Some of my friends do once or twice a month, others probably more often, so I think we are about average.

If you like vacuuming every day, and can't relax otherwise, then go for it. However don't them moan about how much work it is. If you can afford a robovac then they come highly recommended on here, I think they would horrify my cats though.

Carpetdancer · 16/12/2023 20:47

Downstairs - once a week on average and we go through phases of sending the robot round every day and at other times he sits there like he’s unemployed for weeks at a time!

Upstairs - not often at all, once every couple of months at the most!

melmos · 16/12/2023 20:47

Also when I vacuum I do everything - sofa ,chairs, even the bathroom wall 🫠 it's the dogs that started me doing this as their fur got everywhere and i find the attachments easier than dusting but no way would I do that everyday

cristokitty · 16/12/2023 20:48

PamelaParis · 16/12/2023 19:58

Once a fortnight if you're me. So probably once a week for normal people.

Same 🤣

EnthENd · 16/12/2023 20:49

My guess is each room 1-3 times a week. But that could be vacuuming every day but say doing the upstairs rooms one evening and the downstairs the next and the hallways the next.

ElevenSeven · 16/12/2023 20:50

Daily/Every 2 days, but we have dogs

TheWizardHowl · 16/12/2023 20:51

Once a week for me and DD. No shoes worn in the house and no pets.

stayathomer · 16/12/2023 20:52

We have a dog and cats and children with asthma so daily here
