How often? Settle a debate on what constitutes 'normal' and what's excessive please.

Once a week unless we have had a disaster

The what? The dollies? What's a dolly?

Dollies are small wheeled platforms that you place one under each sofa legs so that you can wheel the sofa away from the wall so that you can put a jug over the terrified mouse that DCat brought in or hoover up the woodlice that have died under there.

JustOneMoreBaileys · 18/12/2023 06:53

Every day with a large hairy dog and three adults.

Without him and where I lived alone. Weekly.

Heidi1976 · 18/12/2023 10:08

Downstair daily - upstairs once a week.

therealcookiemonster · 03/04/2024 22:42

depends on no of people. I live by myself so once a week for the areas which are used. Once every two weeks for guest rooms

Hopper123 · 03/04/2024 23:02

Oh gosh! I feel weird now, I vacuum at least twice a day downstairs hallway/front room/dining room and kitchen and every other day upstairs and stairs. Bedrooms I do about one a week. We have very light carpets that show up every little fluff and crumb though and it's my biggest annoyance having bits on the carpet. For context our home is by no means a show home we have three kids and i am often not on top of most things I do clean the bathrooms/toilets everyday though as well as grubby sinks and toilets I can't stand either. If I left our floors for a whole week without a hoover they'd be horrendous.

Oh gosh! I feel weird now, I vacuum at least twice a day downstairs

In fairness, if you really do that, you should feel weird. Because that is weird.

CarrotCake01 · 04/04/2024 00:19

Depends on pets!
Once a week for me with 0 pets, but my mum has dogs and needs to vacuum more regularly!

Thursa · 04/04/2024 00:39

Every other day. All adult household, 5 pets.

DoAWheelie · 04/04/2024 03:45

Every 2-3 weeks pre cats. Now it's most days as the three of them track litter around and drop random kibble everywhere.

Hardwood floors though so it's sweeping rather than hoovering.

I prefer to walk barefoot as I find it hard to balance in shoes (I have mobility disabilities) and so I sweep everytime I start standing on hard bits that hurt. Sometimes they calm down for a few days and I can get away with not doing it.

anon4net · 04/04/2024 04:21

I would say between 1-2x a week is probably the norm for most households. But if you have a shedding pet or a room with lots of traffic, maybe some areas are done more frequently, up to once daily?

Theoldwoman · 04/04/2024 06:21

Daily for us.

Maine Coon cat, large shedding dog, 4 adults, lots of extras at times.

Zanatdy · 04/04/2024 06:25

Me once a week if that, my mum twice a day for the living room

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 04/04/2024 06:33

There is no normal.
Do what you need to do to keep it as clean/crumb free as you like.

With the rise of vacuums that you don't even have to plug in anymore - it's just not the same hassle as it was.

If I had to go and grab a big stand up hoover and move furniture to get to a plug socket, I wouldnt hoover anywhere near as often.

But given Hoover's now are so easy and accessible - it's not that weird to hoover crumbs and fluff as and when they appear.

I think daily is excessive / unnecessary (though it doesn't harm anyone).

Weekly / fortnightly / much less is fine.

It depends entirely on the household whether you vacuum daily, surely. I sweep my kitchen floor daily but could just as easily vacuum it which is probably more efficient.

Universalsnail · 04/04/2024 12:47

Daily downstairs. Every other day upstairs. I can't imagine not hoovering every day and my house is not the cleanest.

Symphony830 · 04/04/2024 12:53

Kitchen/lounge and downstairs corridor every day. It takes about 5-10 mins. We have a dog that sheds an unbelievable amount of fur so wherever he has access requires regular vacuuming.

Ha ha yes I realise. Does it not bug people seeing bits on the floor though? We've definitely already had the conversation about flecked carpets or wooden floors when we finally get rid of the plain cream we inherited when we bought the house (it was brand new in and a good quality, felt wasteful to change it). Maybe then I won't be as weird about it 😂

Supersimkin2 · 04/04/2024 23:04

I have white floors and pale grey floors.

By mistake.

Robovac every 2 days, delighted to get a fistful of bits every time.

CallMikeBanning · 04/04/2024 23:19

2-3 times a week but we are home a lot and I can't sit in a room with a dirty floor.

MisAvi · 04/04/2024 23:22

Lounge = Daily (we have 2 messy seed flinging parrots)
Rest of downstairs every other day ish…
Upstairs once/twice a week

Greenfluffycardi · 04/04/2024 23:28

I’d say daily is normal. Many years ago a carpet fitter told us to vacuum daily with a Hoover with a rotating brush head to lift the carpet pile and keep the carpets looking nice so I’ve always done it. I use a cordless daily but once a week use my “proper” hoover.

Not weird. I hoover every day but sometimes twice as we have dark carpets and everything shows up.

Springchickenonion · 04/04/2024 23:30

Living room and kitchen daily. Rest weekly
