How often? Settle a debate on what constitutes 'normal' and what's excessive please.

@Greenfluffycardi what hoover do you use for carpet pile lift please?

I think daily is excessive / unnecessary (though it doesn't harm anyone).

Weekly / fortnightly / much less is fine.

Unless you never walk on the carpets then fortnightly or less is grim!

I don’t a few times a week - my son has allergies.

2 and 5 yo plus a dog so all downstairs is done daily twice a day in the holidays. Uostairs is done once a week as we literally shower and sleep up there.

I couldn’t imagine my floors after not hoovering for 2 weeks 🤢

Exactly. I hoover every day and have to empty the cylinder regularly. Even if you can’t see the dirt you get dust on your carpets. I discovered just how much when I put pale dream carpets in my kids rooms 😂

With the rise of vacuums that you don't even have to plug in anymore - it's just not the same hassle as it was.

If I had to go and grab a big stand up hoover and move furniture to get to a plug socket, I wouldnt hoover anywhere near as often.

But given Hoover's now are so easy and accessible - it's not that weird to hoover crumbs and fluff as and when they appear.

This is very true. We had a big plugin Dyson thing under the stairs and the thought of digging it out from under everyone's shoes and coats and lugging it up and down stairs and messing with the cord was tiring just to contemplate. Now we have a cordless shark that folds up and goes into a kitchen cupboard, it's so easy just to grab and spot clean as needed.

It makes me laugh that posters say how grim and disgusting people are who don't hoover twice a day - and then reveal that they allow several hairy-arsed animals and - shudder - caged birds to dribble, sprinkle and shed their fur and food and juices and heaven knows what all across their living spaces. That, to me, is far more grim.

I get the hoover out every couple of weeks to have a go on the stairs - whether they need it or not! - but we are grown adults who don't make loads of mess. (So, yes, I sweep up crumbs or food mess in the kitchen, but we don't throw food bits or crumbs around in the house.)

We have no pets. 2-3 times a week normally but always before we have guests over.
