Are they back in/never went out?

Ive noticed three different Christmas trees in well to do 🤷🏻‍♀️😂homes recently and they look really nice.
I grew up with them as an 80’s kid, but only ever have used the plain yellow/white lights

They ain’t my bag but each to their own. I like a cool off-white.

ScremeEggs · 13/12/2023 22:37

Love coloured lights. They're the best and just ARE Christmas! 🙂

grafittiartist · 13/12/2023 22:37

I love coloured lights! So pretty.

margotrose · 13/12/2023 22:38

I much prefer coloured lights! Way more interesting than "warm white" Grin

I always think overly tasteful is a bit try-hard. It's all about the excess for me. The more colours, the better. But then I'm not a well-to-do householder.

Precipice · 13/12/2023 22:39

They never went out.

What I wish would go out - permanently - are flickering lights.

Flickersy · 13/12/2023 22:40

White lights are lovely in the right setting, but for me it's colourful lights all the way on the tree. Not LEDs, the old fashioned glass bulbs.

MadisonAvenue · 13/12/2023 22:41

I think they are making a comeback, I’ve seen multicoloured icicle lights on a few houses this year and they look good.

We had them when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s and I saw some on trees in windows last year which looked lovely so decided to get some for one of our trees for this year.

They stayed on for a day before I stripped everything off the tree and replaced them with warm white lights, they just didn’t look right. I’ve put them on a tree in the back garden instead.
I think it might have been because that tree has all silver baubles. I think if there had been multicoloured ones they’d have been fine.

DonnasShrugaleros · 13/12/2023 22:41

Have noticed more this year for sure

Same! The ones that get really hot to touch and have the fuse bulb on the end. They have a vintage charm. The new coloured LED ones are a little too vibrant.

I'm all for tinsel and foil ceiling decs too.

Coloured lights have never gone away for us! Our tree is an eclectic mix of every Christmas decoration we’ve ever bought, inherited or been gifted, along with each child’s school effort from the whole of primary. Coloured lights provide a beautiful backdrop to this work of art 🎄

Dogspawssmellofcheetos · 13/12/2023 22:47

I thought they were a bit tacky before, but seeing these recently made me feel all warm inside, they were quite subtle really, not too bright and just looked pretty. Definitely reminded me of my childhood Christmases

I have colourful lights not the retro ones from my childhood but the rainbow ones. It goes really well with my tree as the baubles and ornaments are all bright colours as opposed to Pinterest type of big red bows, gold and silver. I have a 5 yo and he loves his cool tree.

Dogspawssmellofcheetos · 13/12/2023 22:50

I’m actually bored with my tree this year and should’ve mixed things up a bit. My red, gold, wooden type theme with normal lights seems too safe and dull. Next year I’m on it

We have both coloured and warm white on our tree - but the coloured ones are the old fashioned type, not LEDs. I don’t like the LED coloured ones - I find them garish.

I hate white lights. We've always had coloured ones. Much more festive 😊

Dogspawssmellofcheetos · 13/12/2023 22:57

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER So nice, yes those are the ones I like, where are those type from?

I bought them at least a year ago, somewhere online! Sorry I can’t be more precise.

I think a lot of people are craving the Christmases of their youth. Christmas got too stylised since the 90s, with themes and colour schemes. Deep down, people just want to look at a Christmas tree and feel the magic they did when they were kids. Which means lots of colour. I have a second tree that is full on 80s (tinsel included) and has all the kids handmade decorations on. I love it more than the stylish living room tree.

GrumpyPanda · 13/12/2023 23:00

Never used anything other than plain low-tech candles. Simple.

SnobblyBobbly · 13/12/2023 23:03

My lights are both, they fade in and out of coloured to warm white - it looks like two different trees when it changes! Perfect solution because I like a bit of both! 😁

Sparrow7 · 13/12/2023 23:04

Always thought they were a bit tacky but this year we accidentally bought a ridiculously giant tree and needed to borrow some lights to fill it. We have ended up with a mix of bright white, soft white and colored lights and it looks amazing!

Ooh where are they from? Sound interesting!

LadyBird1973 · 13/12/2023 23:05

I have warm white at the moment but with colourful baubles and I'd love to have coloured lights again. But I want the ones with a soft blue, and more pastel shades, rather than emergency services blue!

Spotsandleopard · 13/12/2023 23:08

I’ve changed from my usual gold lights outside to multi coloured this year having admired a house round the corner these last few years
