Are they back in/never went out?

Ive noticed three different Christmas trees in well to do 🤷🏻‍♀️😂homes recently and they look really nice.
I grew up with them as an 80’s kid, but only ever have used the plain yellow/white lights

I have always loved coloured lights but we had the large filament bulbs. They finally gave up completely last year, and I bought coloured LED ones to replace, but they are not nearly as nice. And only 4 colours. I think I will have to go warm white this year, and it feels like a capitulation to ghastly good taste.

I will never give up the tinsel though.

Iwasafool · 14/12/2023 16:35

Oh God are we really judged on Christmas tree lights? Mine are about 30 years old so definitely not on trend. Or maybe they are so old I'm ahead of the trend. Oh the dilemma.

TheseLegsDefinitelyUsedToBeLonger · 14/12/2023 16:57

@TheDogIsInCharge we have a Christmas memories tree too 🤗

TheLurkingOne · 14/12/2023 17:04

Always coloured lights, always old fashioned filaments: they are hard to get though, and annoying as sometimes they stop working, and then work fine again! Very much dislike coloured LEDs.

Coloured Christmas lights are as working class as pit bulls and tattoos.

Warm whites for me

Baneofmyexistence · 14/12/2023 17:39

We have warm white ones. The coloured ones are lovely though too. I definitely don’t do matching decorations though! They are all collected over the years, some made by the kids or chosen by them, my grandma made some of them and the angel on the top is the one we used when I was a kid that my nana bought me. My uncle painted one them as well. So they all are completely mismatched and all mean something. I would never swap that for a colour theme or anything!

There's always one isn't there being judgy in their ivory tower lol

Covered in warm white lights.

Ffsmakeitstop · 14/12/2023 18:04

I love coloured lights but I replaced my tree last year and this one is prelit with warm white, which I like but next year I'm putting the coloured ones on it as well. But I'm there with the mismatched baubles, tinsel and lametta.
Sophistication is not a word that's used in our house.

I'm quite proud to be working class although I don't have a Pitbull or tattoos, but what I do have is a fantastic work ethic and a non superior attitude to other folk.

Jollycat8 · 14/12/2023 18:10

After our old lights broke (read: toddler broke them) we bought a string of LED lights last year and they’re the best thing ever because they have multiple settings ! They’re on the coloured setting in the daytime for the kids and warm white at night for me. Everyone wins!

Iloveabaileys · 14/12/2023 18:10

Haha yes ..

Iloveabaileys · 14/12/2023 18:11

Same here , what's wrong with coloured lights ..reminds me of the 80s the best times lol

I have these Multi Coloured LED Traditional Pickwick Christmas Lights | Pickwick Fairy Lights – Lights4fun.co.uk and warm white twinkling (not flashing!) lights on my Christmas tree.

I like to mix up my styles.

(Also- am laughing very hard at the PP who tried to be all superior, claiming coloured lights were 'working class'. Bless. )

people like that are just screamingly insecure.

Iloveabaileys · 14/12/2023 18:24

Same here why on earth do Christmas lights become a class issue and who bloody cares . It's Christmas FFS . Throw the tinsel around chuck joy up everywhere in your house . Ignore the colourful light haters 😂😂

Garman · 14/12/2023 18:28

We’ve always had them, I don’t see how colours are tacky, they’re certainly more festive and fun than plain white.

Coloured Christmas lights are as working class as pit bulls and tattoos.

Interesting take. What do you think caused the inferiority complex which results in your making comments like this? Ironically, they lack class.

Myridiculousstomach · 14/12/2023 18:37

I don’t like LED coloured lights at all - they really jar. They’re over bright and make my head and eyes sore. But I did love proper old fashioned coloured lights. They were so twinkly and warm and soft. And a massive fire hazard, I know. I wish there was a way of replicating that look with LEDs but there doesn’t seem to be.

Spoken like a true MC social climber

😂

Fyi the poshest woman I ever knew (I was dating her son in the '90s and they were RICH rich) had multi coloured Christmas lights up - as did my VERY MC grandparents throughout my entire young life.

No pitbulls or tattoos to be found on any of them.

Wellhellooooodear · 14/12/2023 18:57

We have coloured outside and warm white on the tree but we have a lot of random coloured decorations so certainly not a designer tree

Sallyingon · 14/12/2023 19:26

I wish they would invent less harsh leds. I have a thousand coloured LEDs on our tree. It's hard to look at with the naked eye and photographs very blue. My ideal scenario would be 600 soft twinkly coloured LEDs. I'm really pleased they are back in fashion.
