To find this film disturbing

"Leave the world behind" I find it more like a prediction,/warning on what's to come. Netflix tend to do this. Total shutdown of the internet, pho nes etc and the anarchy that would follow. Could this be a warning of the future? Very disturbing film.

OP, you should read The Stand by Stephen King. It's an excellent end of the world novel. I wouldn't recommend reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy - I feel it may upset your delicate sensibilities.

I haven't seen the movie you're talking about here, but I'm pretty sure the main motivation for pretty much everyone is money. Any end of the world scenario puts us back to a Dark Ages bartering system. Believe me, the vested interests who 'run the world' want the status quo to carry on ad infinitum.

It was absolutely rubbish . Wasted 2 hours watching it.

dontforgetme · 11/12/2023 17:43

The only disturbing thing about the film was the fucking ridiculous ending.

stargirl1701 · 11/12/2023 17:43

Try Person of Interest next OP. The Machine vs Samaritan.

I've read The Stand. Very unsettled by it at the time.

I disagree. The ridiculing and troll hunting has drowned out any actual discourse on the topic to the point that this whole thread is a waste of time which is annoying because I thought we were all going to discuss a really good film/book.

This was a great opportunity to bring someone in and instead people ostracised them and pushed them out. Is OP going to go and research actual sources of information or go back to Conspiracy TikTok or whatever? She's going to go where she's most comfortable, and that's unlikely to be here now because people couldn't talk about this like adults so great success everyone for pushing someone back towards the dodgier parts of the internet.

I'd bet most of the people denigrating OP haven't seen the film.

I'd recommend they do.

As PP have said, 🐈‍⬛ 😺🐈 Cats actually DO rule the 🌎 World.

I can prove this. Despite having a perfectly serviceable catflap, my cat made me open the door for him. Didn't even have to ask. Scientific evidence right there.

LouisCatorze · 11/12/2023 17:48

The film is based on a book that I read a couple of years ago.

Devilsmommy · 11/12/2023 17:49

ManateeFair · 11/12/2023 17:21

Leave The World Behind is based on a novel in the literary fiction category by an author called Rumaan Alam. I haven't seen the Netflix adaptation yet but I read the book a couple of years ago and it's brilliant - really ominous and unsettling and ambiguous. Very cleverly written.

Anyway, no, it's not a prophetic warning about what 'they' are going to do to us, and if you think it is then I think you're probably beyond help.

If the book was as good as you say don't watch the film, it's shitty ending. Wish I'd have just read the book myself 😔

A future who have planned for us? Who's they?

I was just thinking the same thing! Huzzah! A bit of chaos before Christmas. 😂

An excellent film, which makes the point that should we be attacked we won’t know or necessarily understand what’s going on. The use of EMPs, sound and microwave weapons - the idea that if you take our communications, transport, electricity we will turn against each other - terrifying. When the son’s teeth fell out, it really upset me, I have always thought that radiation would be in fall-out /ash. It didn’t occur to me it would happen like that.

YoureALizardHarry11 · 11/12/2023 17:49

I always find it funny how people think that the powers that be are all secretly conspiring against us, yet making their plans obvious through the media and internet, the two can’t be true as they are contradictory 🤣

dannyufcfan · 11/12/2023 17:50

No way OP got their covid jabs.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 11/12/2023 17:50

Total shutdown of the internet, phones etc

Haven't seen the film, but is that not just real life minus the last couple of decades? Less, rather than more, apocalyptic than the current shitshow.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/12/2023 17:50

Maybe stop reading/watching things that disturb you op - and don;t think about water snakes

My cat is the same she won't use it so it is permanently wedged open.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/12/2023 17:52

Still, I can understand why conspiracy theorists worry about the loss of the internet - they'd have to resort to cornering people in Greggs to rant about 15 minute cities, the reset, them people that control everything jews and bison

I thought girls run the world?

Only if they're rich and famous.

Dictators have a fair shot at controlling their people. North Korea is shut off from the world but I bet the fat little fucker doesn't go without.

They have certainly managed to willing enslave 50% of the population - and we think it's our choice - evil fury cute cute fluffy bastards

Castlerock44 · 11/12/2023 17:02

The people that run the world.

The world is at war. The world is in debt. Nobody runs the world. There are a select few dictators who would like to run the world, but they never will.

Don’t panic OP. Nothing of the sort will ever happen.
