To find this film disturbing

"Leave the world behind" I find it more like a prediction,/warning on what's to come. Netflix tend to do this. Total shutdown of the internet, pho nes etc and the anarchy that would follow. Could this be a warning of the future? Very disturbing film.

Oh I love Apocalyptic/end of civilisation films. They're my comfort viewing.

The people that run the world.

Any minute now the OP is going to start going on about the 'New World Order' and reference the Rothschild family and a 'global elite of rich financiers' who 'control the media' and then we'll have the full measure of her

It’s based on a book, so presumably it’s the author who is plotting the end of the world, not Netflix

NightmareGirl · 11/12/2023 17:20

It would be better if the internet became self- aware and dragged us into it

ManateeFair · 11/12/2023 17:21

Leave The World Behind is based on a novel in the literary fiction category by an author called Rumaan Alam. I haven't seen the Netflix adaptation yet but I read the book a couple of years ago and it's brilliant - really ominous and unsettling and ambiguous. Very cleverly written.

Anyway, no, it's not a prophetic warning about what 'they' are going to do to us, and if you think it is then I think you're probably beyond help.

Castlerock44 · 11/12/2023 16:59

By that I mean, a future that they have planned for us.

Netflix or the producer? Or is this a conspiracy thing where the Govt have made the movie to warn you of their plans?

OftIwandered · 11/12/2023 17:23

Wouldn't a warning come from someone who wasn't planning an event?

SignoraItaliana · 11/12/2023 17:24

Wasn't there a poster here who thought Line of Duty was a documentary?

Grin Will nobody think of the bison?
Freshair1 · 11/12/2023 17:28

I thought the film was excellent. Thought provoking. It forces us to recognise the parallels insofar as we exist right now within a chaotic world with all sorts of things happening, yet we numb ourselves with the arts. We turn away from people's whose plight we cannot understand (the Spanish speaking woman), we jump on conspiracy theories and reveal our worse selves when whipped into a frenzy. Small boats anyone? Staring at incoming disasters and not believing or reacting until forced? (Climate change) or the gathering animals which seem to know it's going to shit? It's a great film, maybe it's dull if you're not into that sort of thing.

Cats rule the world. Everyone knows that.

With Orientals ( Burmese, Siamese &c) at the 🔝 top .
Evil dictators- Have humans completely under their 🐾 paws.

Elvanseshortage · 11/12/2023 17:28

@Castlerock44 Nobody 'runs the world' really, they don't. You know all that stuff you read on the internet that makes you believe in that irrational stuff? Have you never noticed what kind of people post that nonsense? They are not smart or stable people. Think about it.

As PP have said, 🐈‍⬛ 😺🐈 Cats actually DO rule the 🌎 World.

I haven't a clue what you mean. The responses on here are so predictable.

Netflix is really the new way of communication between politicians, conspiracy theorist and the general public... I agree with OP, we should take note!
Anyone worked out the message from Best Christmas Ever! In regards to the world's future?

Bicorne · 11/12/2023 17:35

Oh, OP. Are you this unsettled by literally every ‘end of civilisation’/apocalypse film? Because the first one was a Danish silent movie from 1916 called The End of the World, picking up on fears about Halley’s Comet.

That's me sorted for my next read- thank you 😊

BiscuitsandPuffin · 11/12/2023 17:38

It was a great film and as you can see its message will tragically be lost on most people. But I think you missed the bit where GH said something along the lines of: "there's no global cabal, no one runs the world and that's the scariest thing of all." I'm inclined to agree with that.
