According to recent threads:

Everyone over the age of about 35 looks way younger, constantly mistaken for younger, doesn't have a line on their face yet despite never using suncream, and their nan only used bin juice on their face and smoked 80 fags a day but had beautiful skin at 103 years old.

Everyone had sex with their complete stranger dp within about 4 seconds of meeting them for the first time, their dp moved in that night and never left and they're coming up to 762 years of happy marriage now.

Everybody on here seems to earn 200k in some mysterious job that doesn't seem to exist, they can't quite explain what they do, but they worked their asses off to get to this level of seniority which involves them working 3 hours a week for 2 weeks a year.

Interested to hear any more.

I'm surprised anyone would think most women felt secure on here. Every day there are dozens of awful threads, full of people sharing similar experiences.

Bringbackspring · 14/12/2023 17:17

That people earn £££££. I had no idea before using MN that so many people had very high paying, big jobs! I thought I was earning a decent-ish salary, but this site makes me feel poor AF!

I have found many of the relationship threads eye opening and insightful. Many have some genuinely good advice.

Attempting polite chit chat is a minefield. You can't ask anyone anything. Literally asking any question is considered rude or annoying.

All the LTB (for minor indiscretion) folk have perfect DHs who do 50% of everything and are really nice and supportive. They would never put up with the shite the OP has chosen to accept!

People hate dogs. That was a big surprise and now I have dog paranoia! I daren't allow my dog to even look in someone else's direction (if I dare allow her out in public) 😂

AngryBirdsNoMore · 14/12/2023 17:31

That stepmothers can never complain about anything their husband or children do because they should have foreseen absolutely everything that could happen before marrying someone with children.

Ain't that the truth? It's batshit.

Also agree with you!

I think the thing I find funny is that many of these men appear to be dopey, semi-literate cavemen whose most obvious characteristics are dirt-blindness and an inability to look after more than one child at a time, but the posters who complain about them still think they are irresistible to other women. Who are probably throwing their underwear at them in the photocopier room at work

That made me laugh :)

The funny thing is, though, so many of these pillocks actually do manage to get multiple partners. I have to assume OW sees a different side of them if they're actually cheats. Or they're sperminators going from woman to woman, having kids all over the shop.

I do think, and I know it sounds nuts, that some women see a man who is already in a relationship or already a father, as having some kind of quality seal from another woman. Someone else thought he was good enough to marry/cohabit with/have kids with, and that gives him a seal of approval that a single man with no kids doesn't have. I know, I know...clearly not if he's not keeping to his commitments. But I do think that's how some women subconsciously or unconsciously see it.

I have learnt that “baby dance” (BD) is an acceptable term for “having sex” if a couple are trying to conceive.

It makes me cringe every time I see it 😂

To a poster above: I am not American but I do have a mom 😂 She and her family grew up in Birmingham and this is a typical term. I also don’t have a Grandmother, I have a Nan 😂

I confirm - it's mom in Birmingham.

I'm going to fuck it up with a serious one. I've learned that there's a word for the way in which DP treats me, and it's "abuse". Without comments from MN I genuinely would never have figured this out, I thought that I was the problem. Although I'm immensely glad to finally understand and begin to rebuild my life, I'm sad that I only got this knowledge because there's so many women out there who have experienced the same.

Good for you! Very glad to hear that you are doing well ☺️

QueenMegan · 15/12/2023 22:48

Cocklodgers makes me laugh hysterically as I'm a visual thinker.

Comments about people cheating the system especially if they drive posh cars and go on holiday will start a massive fight.

People are obsessed with class.

Swearing is good

Tueresmuyguapo · 16/12/2023 14:52

According to posters, absolutely everybody smells terrible apart from them because they shower 6 times a day and wash their clothing after 5 minutes of use. They can smell someone's perfume and body spray from 6 miles away and it makes them heave and retch. (See current thread on smells)

Oh yeah, the smells. Someone the other day was claiming that she throws up at the smell of cooked cheese and always have. Several people have claimed that the "stench" of a scented sanitary towel on someone several desks away prevents them working.

And 100% have depression and anxiety. Guilty as charged. You have to work to manage it rather than letting it rule you, though.

Any attempt to have a balanced debate about the Middle East will, within 5 posts, result in someone saying something antisemitic/generalising about "The Jews" who will then get butthurt and play the victim when told that conflating the actions of the Israeli government with Jewish people generally is racist.

NonPlayerCharacter · 16/12/2023 19:46

Yeah, that reminds me...an alarming number of MNers are pig-ignorant antisemites and truly think it makes them good people. Given MNHQ allows said pig-ignorant antisemites to keep their accounts without consequence, I suppose I can see why, but that doesn't make it any less pig-ignorant antisemitism.

That's true and it's absolutely disgusting. To be fair, though, it isn't just mumsnet. I have had to block any number of morons on social who peddle that vile'from the river to the sea' bullshit.

SoMuchOfEverything · 17/12/2023 00:58

That MILs are all witches and you are completely reasonable and rational to make sure she never visits your house or cuddles or even looks at your baby. Especially if it is a first born.

For added protection against said witchiness, you should probably have your own mother with you at least 6 days a week.

SoMuchOfEverything · 17/12/2023 01:16

Some people will find offense in anything.

An OP will say that they had toast for breakfast and there will be a barrage of responses telling them that they are insensitive and haven't considered that some people prefer cornflakes or are intolerant to wheat or only have rolls in the bread bin that won't fit in the toaster and the OP is a stuck up cow for being so callous to be bragging about their bloody toast.

The other thing I've found about Mumsnet is that everyone should change their username more regularly. If you do post about having a slice of toast for breakfast, someone will post "Oh, is this you?" With a link to a post from 10 years ago in which you've said that you rarely have time for breakfast in the morning. Followed by "well which is it? Or have you got nothing better to do with your time than make up toast lies on the internet? TROLL!"

thelastrose · 17/12/2023 01:21

Yes, and though all MIL are evil witches, you will somehow never be a MIL yourself.
