Skipping the Que

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 20:46

Now that I am calmer, I think perhaps I may have been a jerk but I was so annoyed earlier.

I was catching the train to work with about 20 minutes to spare. I stopped off at the deli near the trainstation (also petrol station), Sunday morning close to Xmas, the que was longer than usual and the staff were slow enough.

This lady skipped the que and approached the men at the top and asked if she could stand in, as she was in a hurry as she had a baby in the car.

I was annoyed but whatever. She then did the same thing in the que to pay.

She left the shop and while I was in the que to pay, and by now, barely going to make my train due to the slow deli, she came back in, picked up a bottle of water and approached the man at the top of the que.

I was second in the que, she had the same story. “Sorry is it ok to jump in, I just have a baby in the car”.

he said it was ok. It was not ok with me. I piped up and told her no it wasn’t okay, everyone’s got places to be and I’m in a hurry too, she’s after skipping twice and wants to skip the third time? Get to the back of the que and wait your turn.

she started yelling I was very rude, very rude indeed, turned to the sales assistant saying how rude I was and the sales assistant served her.

the man who let her go ahead of him also let me go ahead of him.

I didn’t complain to the sales assistant but I called the shop immediately after I got on the train, complained to the manager and he called me back there tonight to say he watched the cctv back and he is after reprimanding the assistant in question.

Well you have skipped the QUEUE.
The end two letters to be precise.

coldcallerbaiter · 10/12/2023 23:02

2dogsandabudgie · 10/12/2023 20:52

You also jumped the queue though because the man who let her go in front let you go as well, so can't see what the problem is.

How? OP and the man - they swapped places.

The cf women was never in the queue.

I know how to spell it. I’m just unbothered by bad spelling, sorry.

And skipped 3 times. Twice originally. Once at the deli. Once at the till. Exited, returned, skipped again.

The reason I complained to the manager was because I felt like I was being treated like the asshole to say I don’t want to let the same person skip ahead of me 3 times. I have places to be too. If I miss my train it’s an hour until the next one.

The shop assistant disregarded that the people queuing were not okay with her skipping for the third time and I felt ignored when the shop assistant let her go ahead of me.

I don’t feel like I did anything wrong yet was verbally dressed down and the shop assistant ignored what I felt like was a valid point.

YABVVVVVU Knowing how to spell queue but deliberately spelling it que..... many many times. I couldn't read your post as Manuel kept popping into my head every time "que" appeared and I was having to convert it from Que to queue. I gave up 😂😂😂

WhateverMate · 10/12/2023 23:04

Honestly, bad spelling always brings out the thread chickens.

It's like the OP throws a couple of seeds and they all go crazy, clucking around and squawking their little heads off! 🤣🤣

The manager lied to you. There’s protocols for accessing and viewing CCTV and looking for queue jumpers is not one of them!

as per @MonsteraMama - I have a post grad in info management and work in data protection/with GDPR every day, this is completely wrong. The owners of the CCTV (which the manager would count as) is of course allowed to access it - in this case either to ascertain the veracity of a complaint or for training purposes would be completely appropriate justifications.

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 23:06

The CCTV was to ascertain I was not kicking off over one person skipping. I was upset at the delay at the deli, then the fact she did it again, left and came back the 3rd time.

The manager called me back tonight to say he’d reviewed the cctv and he could see the lady skipping three times and that the shop assistant should have asked her to join the que.

I don’t want the person to be fired but, I use that shop all the time and I’m not going to feel like I’m troublesome just because I don’t have the time to let one person skip me three times.

also, to the people saying it’s rude that I spell incorrectly when I know it bothers people, it’s also rude to pile on one person to jeer and mock them so I’m not really too concerned about appearing rude to those people.

The shop assistant should be told but not reprimanded.

Shop assistant is not in the queue and does not have a train to catch, so does not particularly care or is a zombie. SA should think about the ppl queuing, it goes without saying.

Plus, I know ppl leave babies in cars for a few mins, but it is not an excuse and it pretty irresponsible.

Queue jumper was an entitled and common donkey to yell when clearly in the wrong.

SusanKennedyshouldLTB · 10/12/2023 23:16

I keep seeing these little videos on insta where someone lets someone else take their place in the queue and they themselves go to the back. That would be much better. The queue doesnt get any longer.

Mostlyoblivious · 10/12/2023 23:19

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 20:56

Fair point but I saw it as I was 2nd in the que. If he wanted to forfeit his place in the que for her, that’s his problem. I was 2nd, so I stayed second…

Oh how petty are you?!! ‘I’m alright Jack’ attitude right there. Yes it’s bloody frustrating that woman did what she did however your attitude also stinks. She didn’t do it as a personal slight to you - remove your ego from this.

Also, try leaving more time to get to work and to be less of a dick

KrisAkabusi · 10/12/2023 23:24

I can't believe you phoned the shop over this. That's not just being unreasonable, it's mentally ill!

I don’t want the person to be fired but, I use that shop all the time and I’m not going to feel like I’m troublesome just because I don’t have the time to let one person skip me three times.

Phoning the shop to complain about the assistant is going to do nothing other than get the assistant trouble.

I'm surprised no-one else has corrected the OP.

I highly doubt there was a car with a baby in it waiting for her outside....

ValerieVomit · 11/12/2023 00:06

Me too! AIBU for saying that it is a queue?

That's nuts. Not only is it distracting but why is it just that word that isn't spelled properly? Why did the OP not say that "I no ow to spell it Im just unbovvered"? It's just as ridiculous.

Bambi1449 · 11/12/2023 00:16

I don't understand why you deliberately spell queue incorrectly but you take the time to spell pretty much everything else correctly? When I see the word "que" I read it in my head as "kay" as that's how it's pronounced. It's really distracting (as well as grating and really irritating) to keep seeing the foreign word "que" in the middle of English sentences.

beanontoast · 11/12/2023 00:17

OP didn’t have time for someone to skip the queue, OP didn’t have time to write queue instead of que…OP may I suggest investing in a watch, your time management needs some work

CouchCat · 11/12/2023 01:11

Proper spelling matters. The repetition of 'que' was so irritating I didn't really get the gist of the problem itself.

Definitely. The constant que just kept distracting me to the point that I couldn’t focus on what the op was about.

penjil · 11/12/2023 01:39

For Pete's sake, it is spelt QUEUE!!

People have told you this on every page, but you still carry on and spell it incorrectly afterwards!!

Read and understand!!

It's spelt queue.

Same again!

Holidayhell22 · 11/12/2023 07:51

Is anyone else feeling sorry for the man at the front of the queue?
He obviously didn’t want to look like a dick and refuse ‘a mother’ her right to push in.
Then the op has a rant and so he lets her push in.
If I was him I’d be thinking sod this, next time I’ll either make myself a pack up or go hungry, rather than face that again.

Oh my god. WHO CARES! Every cunt and their gran can tell what OP is saying. She KNOWS the correct spelling and another poster whining and spitting feathers about it isn’t going to change it!
