Skipping the Que

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 20:46

Now that I am calmer, I think perhaps I may have been a jerk but I was so annoyed earlier.

I was catching the train to work with about 20 minutes to spare. I stopped off at the deli near the trainstation (also petrol station), Sunday morning close to Xmas, the que was longer than usual and the staff were slow enough.

This lady skipped the que and approached the men at the top and asked if she could stand in, as she was in a hurry as she had a baby in the car.

I was annoyed but whatever. She then did the same thing in the que to pay.

She left the shop and while I was in the que to pay, and by now, barely going to make my train due to the slow deli, she came back in, picked up a bottle of water and approached the man at the top of the que.

I was second in the que, she had the same story. “Sorry is it ok to jump in, I just have a baby in the car”.

he said it was ok. It was not ok with me. I piped up and told her no it wasn’t okay, everyone’s got places to be and I’m in a hurry too, she’s after skipping twice and wants to skip the third time? Get to the back of the que and wait your turn.

she started yelling I was very rude, very rude indeed, turned to the sales assistant saying how rude I was and the sales assistant served her.

the man who let her go ahead of him also let me go ahead of him.

I didn’t complain to the sales assistant but I called the shop immediately after I got on the train, complained to the manager and he called me back there tonight to say he watched the cctv back and he is after reprimanding the assistant in question.

Sorry just also here for the que jokes. I’m not mocking you op, it’s just the wrong spelling changes the meaning of your OP and it’s actually quite funny.

ActDottie · 10/12/2023 21:32

She was wrong and entitled. But the manager’s reaction seems OTT.

Holidayhell22 · 10/12/2023 21:00

I doubt there even is a baby. That’s twice she’s left it in the car!
I think she was a CF.

Literally my first thought. Guarantee there was no baby.

I didn’t spell it to upset anyone? It’s shorter to write que than it is to write queue, I was going to just write q but that seemed very lazy.

So why didn’t you knock two letters of any other word that would save time too. 🤷‍♀️

AnneValentine · 10/12/2023 21:36

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/12/2023 20:56

FYI it’s queue. 😉

Well done for being that person 🙄

Ur missin a trik or 2 OP

Hiddenvoice · 10/12/2023 21:38

I’d also find it really annoying but I wouldn’t have phoned the shop and complained to the manager. Other customers were letting her skip, as annoying as that is to everyone else in the line, that’s their choice and nothing to do with the sales assistant.
I’d have moaned about being in a hurry but what a rubbish thing for the sales assistant to get into trouble for when they are just trying to get on with their shift.

Not convinced the manager will bother. I worked in retail and the manager would sometimes say he'd give a staff member a reprimand but rarely did.
They know it's a shit job and certain customers go out of their way to make the job even more shit so just say whatever it takes to keep the customer quiet
So sorry OP but this assistant might keep her/his job after all.

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 20:56

Fair point but I saw it as I was 2nd in the que. If he wanted to forfeit his place in the que for her, that’s his problem. I was 2nd, so I stayed second…

Queue is the correct spelling.

MonsteraMama · 10/12/2023 21:46

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/12/2023 21:11

The manager lied to you. There’s protocols for accessing and viewing CCTV and looking for queue jumpers is not one of them!

This isn't true at all. When I was a shop manager I had access to our CCTV and could view it whenever I wanted. There's protocols around sharing it with a third party, but not around the management viewing it.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 10/12/2023 21:46

A queue is just a load of silent letters queuing up behind a q.
But they still matter - a bit like the people queuing up while pisstaker jumped to the front.

TempleMeads · 10/12/2023 21:46

TheresaCrowd · 10/12/2023 21:12

Oh FFS why must people always jump in to correct an OP's spelling, despite the fact some twat has got there and done it long before them?

The thread just fills up with pages and pages of knobs.

Que?

FoxyLocksie · 10/12/2023 21:49

senua · 10/12/2023 21:16

I’m just unbothered by bad spelling
YABVU

As for the rest. No idea if YWBU. I was distracted by the 'que' and stopped reading after the fifth time you got it wrong. I can only take so much.

I had the same experience. The constant repetition of "que" caused me to focus on that more than the actual post itself.

The OP's statement that she knows how to spell queue correctly but couldn't be bothered shows disrespect for the reader, imo.

Allfur · 10/12/2023 21:54

Theresacrowd - is that knobs or nobs

HollaHolla · 10/12/2023 21:57

Queue. Not que. We are not Manuel.

WhereIsBebèsChambre · 10/12/2023 21:58

SBHon · 10/12/2023 20:59

Unrelated but every single time I read ‘que’ I heard Manuel from Faulty Towers and smiled.

There's too much butter on those trays....

Noo Mr Fawlty Uno, Dos,Trés

Terfosaurus · 10/12/2023 21:59

I hate queue jumpers with a passion, and agree that just because the person at the front says its OK doesn't make it OK

I wouldn't have phoned and complained though.

Come in people, when writing 10 paragraph OPs about lack of time missing the letters off the key word in the situation is a valid way to gain back those lost seconds, how is that not obvious?

Also shorter to skip the queue?! 😂

theduchessofspork · 10/12/2023 22:03

It’s queue.

It was arsehole like to complain to the shop and get the asst (who was only trying to prevent a scene) told off. Fine to reprimand her, but you can’t control other people if they want to be arseholes.

Tawlk · 10/12/2023 22:04

Jaysus, queue skippers are very annoying, but the poor ould sod on minimum wage whom already has to listen to shite from entitled customers everyday is now getting a bollocking for letting someone skip a queue. Why phone up the shop and complain?

theduchessofspork · 10/12/2023 22:04

Actually on reflection I suspect the PP is right - why would the manager bother?

So actually you don’t need to feel bad about the asst OP

theduchessofspork · 10/12/2023 22:06

Americano75 · 10/12/2023 21:33

There was no baby

There was no CCTV

So was there even a que????

Because in this instance everyone old enough is imagining the poor asst as Manuel.
