Skipping the Que

Now that I am calmer, I think perhaps I may have been a jerk but I was so annoyed earlier.

I was catching the train to work with about 20 minutes to spare. I stopped off at the deli near the trainstation (also petrol station), Sunday morning close to Xmas, the que was longer than usual and the staff were slow enough.

This lady skipped the que and approached the men at the top and asked if she could stand in, as she was in a hurry as she had a baby in the car.

I was annoyed but whatever. She then did the same thing in the que to pay.

She left the shop and while I was in the que to pay, and by now, barely going to make my train due to the slow deli, she came back in, picked up a bottle of water and approached the man at the top of the que.

I was second in the que, she had the same story. “Sorry is it ok to jump in, I just have a baby in the car”.

he said it was ok. It was not ok with me. I piped up and told her no it wasn’t okay, everyone’s got places to be and I’m in a hurry too, she’s after skipping twice and wants to skip the third time? Get to the back of the que and wait your turn.

she started yelling I was very rude, very rude indeed, turned to the sales assistant saying how rude I was and the sales assistant served her.

the man who let her go ahead of him also let me go ahead of him.

I didn’t complain to the sales assistant but I called the shop immediately after I got on the train, complained to the manager and he called me back there tonight to say he watched the cctv back and he is after reprimanding the assistant in question.

I loathe a queue jumper too but don’t think I would have called the store as it wasn’t really the sales assistants fault

RedHelenB · 10/12/2023 22:11

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/12/2023 21:11

The manager lied to you. There’s protocols for accessing and viewing CCTV and looking for queue jumpers is not one of them!

This. Obviously told OP.what she wanted to hear for an easy life.

fuckssaaaaake · 10/12/2023 22:18

Poor baby in the car, thank fuck it's not summer 😬

stepintochristmas1 · 10/12/2023 22:24

Sorry but can't help laughing at all the jokes . I can't even remember what the OP was about 😁( I don't think I even read it )

Pyramintdreamer · 10/12/2023 22:24

Why am I finding this thread so entertaining 😂😂😂

Did you complain about the view op? That you couldn't see the sea?
(Showing age with all the Fawlty jokes)

It’s a shame some posters comprehension isn’t as hot on as their spelling correction or they might just have twigged that someone in the dozens of posts before had already corrected the OP.
Maybe they could work on that reading comprehension next now they’ve apparently mastered they spelling.

Anisette · 10/12/2023 22:37

I know how to spell it. I’m just unbothered by bad spelling, sorry.

What bad manners when you know it bothers other people

MarmitePizza · 10/12/2023 22:41

Muchof · 10/12/2023 21:35

So why didn’t you knock two letters of any other word that would save time too. 🤷‍♀️

My favourite post! Exactly!!!

It’s THEIR spelling not “they spelling.”

Because in this instance everyone old enough is imagining the poor asst as Manuel.

¿Que?

At least OP didn't mention the war.

CluelessVegetarian · 10/12/2023 22:44

This thread is hilarious!!

Op, next time just write 'q'. It's pronounced the same as queue and saves you another two letters. :o)

Yanbu to be annoyed about the queue jumper. I also can't believe that anyone would leave their baby in the car that many times. The shop assistant should have spoken up when it happened again but I'm sure he (thankfully) won't get fired for this. I hope you made your train!!

TheresaCrowd · 10/12/2023 21:12

Oh FFS why must people always jump in to correct an OP's spelling, despite the fact some twat has got there and done it long before them?

The thread just fills up with pages and pages of knobs.

So many knobs, including the one who said the OP had ‘anger issues’.

SurelySmartie · 10/12/2023 22:49

If you can’t be bothered que sera sera.

Gosh you’re so smart I’m in awe.
It was clearly an autocorrect, but you carry on being a condescending fuckwit if that’s what gets you off 😂

Is this enshrined in law? I mean I have just looked at my house cctv. Is there a law I should be following?

ItAintGonnaGoDownEasyIfItAintCheezy · 10/12/2023 22:50

he watched the cctv back and he is after reprimanding the assistant in question.

Good. Unless you are a first responder, pushing in is never acceptable.

Hadjab · 10/12/2023 22:52

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 21:24

I didn’t spell it to upset anyone? It’s shorter to write que than it is to write queue, I was going to just write q but that seemed very lazy.

I’ve read it all now 🙄

AdobeWanKenobi · 10/12/2023 22:53

BustinJeiber · 10/12/2023 22:48

So many knobs, including the one who said the OP had ‘anger issues’.

I’ve always thought the MNet rules should include provision for the ‘I’m smarter than you brigade’ who jump on a posters mistakes. Only takes one of them and then they all pile on like a bunch of school bullies.
Picking on someone’s SPAG, someone you know nothing about or any snapshot of their lives, only serves to make those who do it rather pathetic doesn’t it?

BustinJeiber · 10/12/2023 22:54

Good for you OP, totally within your rights to say something. Good luck with the wrath of the baby mamas 🤣

easylikeasundaymorn · 10/12/2023 22:58

I think it's fair enough for the manager to have a word with the shop assistant - having done a LOT of retail work serving people in order is a key and basic part of the job - if someone tries to push in and the people behind them aren't happy with it then you don't let them! I'm all for comparatively poorly paid people not having to put up with shit that isn't relevant to their job, but in this case the shop assistant was partly at fault.

There were threads about this during ye olde covide times when people were queueing for supermarkets and someone got told off for refusing to let an elderly person in front of them - yes it's all very nice to have that warm glow of being the nice person letting someone go in front, and if it only takes you from number 1 in the queue to number 2 it's not a huge detriment to you - but if EVERYONE did it then number 50 in the queue would end up as number 99 and that's hardly fair. Technically if you let someone else in front of you you should swap places with them (i.e. go to the back yourself). I think OP is being fair enough - it would have been ridiculous if she missed her train due to someone effectively pushing in 3 times!

This is Britain, queuing is our thing, surely someone should have written a definitive guide by now? 😂

MsLavender · 10/12/2023 22:59

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/12/2023 21:11

No there isn't. I was a retail manager for years and accessed CCTV as and when I liked. It was how I used to catch shoplifters including a couple of members of staff. It's not like I needed permission from HR or whatever to simply view CCTV and go back through the footage!

Calling me “a knob” is a lot worse than my honest observation
