Skipping the Que

Now that I am calmer, I think perhaps I may have been a jerk but I was so annoyed earlier.

I was catching the train to work with about 20 minutes to spare. I stopped off at the deli near the trainstation (also petrol station), Sunday morning close to Xmas, the que was longer than usual and the staff were slow enough.

This lady skipped the que and approached the men at the top and asked if she could stand in, as she was in a hurry as she had a baby in the car.

I was annoyed but whatever. She then did the same thing in the que to pay.

She left the shop and while I was in the que to pay, and by now, barely going to make my train due to the slow deli, she came back in, picked up a bottle of water and approached the man at the top of the que.

I was second in the que, she had the same story. “Sorry is it ok to jump in, I just have a baby in the car”.

he said it was ok. It was not ok with me. I piped up and told her no it wasn’t okay, everyone’s got places to be and I’m in a hurry too, she’s after skipping twice and wants to skip the third time? Get to the back of the que and wait your turn.

she started yelling I was very rude, very rude indeed, turned to the sales assistant saying how rude I was and the sales assistant served her.

the man who let her go ahead of him also let me go ahead of him.

I didn’t complain to the sales assistant but I called the shop immediately after I got on the train, complained to the manager and he called me back there tonight to say he watched the cctv back and he is after reprimanding the assistant in question.

QUEUE - line of people waiting for something
QUE - ‘what’ in Spanish.

hihihihihihihihihihi · 10/12/2023 21:07

YABU. It's queue.

wjpa · 10/12/2023 21:07

The queue jumper was very unreasonable. She queue jumped multiple times and shouted when she was called out.

TBH I don't think the assistant was wrong to serve her after the shouting. By serving her, that got her to fuck off and stop shouting.

However, I'm not sure why you called the manager. The problem was the cheeky fucker, not the shop or the assistant. Are you actually pleased/satisfied that a shop assistant got bollocked? Bollocked because a selfish bitch kept queue jumping? The assistant did the right thing IMO - serve bitch, she goes away, peace is restored.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 10/12/2023 21:08

Woman was a CF

I'd have said something too.

But falling the shop afterwards and getting the assistant reprimanded is OTT.

It's not the assistants fault it's the CF woman and those at the front who let her in.

Ravenclaw101 · 10/12/2023 21:08

The assistant could and should have told her to go to the back of the queue. I’ve done my time in retail and I’ve done that plenty.

ViaRia01 · 10/12/2023 21:08

Fair enough if you were directly behind the an and swapped places with him. Sorry if I misunderstood that at first.

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 21:09

I think you have anger problems.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 10/12/2023 21:11

The manager lied to you. There’s protocols for accessing and viewing CCTV and looking for queue jumpers is not one of them!

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 21:11

I know how to spell it. I’m just unbothered by bad spelling, sorry.

And skipped 3 times. Twice originally. Once at the deli. Once at the till. Exited, returned, skipped again.

The reason I complained to the manager was because I felt like I was being treated like the asshole to say I don’t want to let the same person skip ahead of me 3 times. I have places to be too. If I miss my train it’s an hour until the next one.

The shop assistant disregarded that the people queuing were not okay with her skipping for the third time and I felt ignored when the shop assistant let her go ahead of me.

I don’t feel like I did anything wrong yet was verbally dressed down and the shop assistant ignored what I felt like was a valid point.

Oh FFS why must people always jump in to correct an OP's spelling, despite the fact some twat has got there and done it long before them?

The thread just fills up with pages and pages of knobs.

eatsleepfarmrepeat · 10/12/2023 21:13

My personal view is that it’s only ok to sanction a queue jump if you are the ONLY person in the queue - you can’t OK something that also affects those stood behind you in a queue.

I wouldn’t have called the shop though, I think that’s unnecessary and puts someone’s job at risk which is a bit shit, they were in a difficult position having been approved by the chap at the front of the queue.

The woman sounds like a twat though. A good deal of us on here have children and would never be a CF.

senua · 10/12/2023 21:16

YABVU

As for the rest. No idea if YWBU. I was distracted by the 'que' and stopped reading after the fifth time you got it wrong. I can only take so much.

Shop assistants don't get paid enough to care about shit like this. You and the queue jumper made their day/job harder than it needed to be

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/12/2023 21:18

You know how to spell it but keep making the same mistake?
Sorry OP , I’m out.

FofB · 10/12/2023 21:20

What a load of nonsense- there's no way she had a baby sat in the car on its own. I'm with you OP, her time isn't more important that yours.

SheSaidHummingbird · 10/12/2023 21:20

Unbothered by spelling but then (repeatedly) misspelling just one word? YABU for the crap cover lie.

AmethystSparkles · 10/12/2023 21:21

If you knew how to spell it but don’t care about bad spelling, why was every other word spelled correctly?

You just used “que” so many times that even the mild to moderate pedants couldn’t cope🤣

YouOKHun · 10/12/2023 21:24

I agree with you OP and would have said something to the woman but calling the company was probably a step too far. The woman has forgotton all about it but it’s now going to end in trouble for someone who likely earns very little and spends their time putting up with rudeness from some customers on a daily basis. As a student I was that person and you really can’t win whatever you do. If they’d told the woman to get in line they probably would have been given a hard time for that too. If “the customer is always right” who does the sales assistant obey - you, the man at the front of the queue or the insistent queue jumper?

LindaHoney · 10/12/2023 21:24

I didn’t spell it to upset anyone? It’s shorter to write que than it is to write queue, I was going to just write q but that seemed very lazy.

FizzyLaser · 10/12/2023 21:26

My god.

queue

FatFatMary · 10/12/2023 21:27

I do hate the look of that word though

SweetFemaleAttitude · 10/12/2023 21:28

SBHon · 10/12/2023 20:59

Unrelated but every single time I read ‘que’ I heard Manuel from Faulty Towers and smiled.

Same pmsl

meatbaseddessert · 10/12/2023 21:30

You are not unreasonable to be annoyed but you most certainly are to call the bloody manager and complain and get the poor assistant in trouble.

Fucking well done you. Confused

TerrysNeapolitan · 10/12/2023 21:31

Was she the same lady who felt she didn't have to pay for a bag in a supermarket as she had a baby on one of yesterdays threads? What exactly is the baby an issue it is sitting in a car probably asleep? I need to get a baby - it sounds very convenient for valid shoplifting, skipping queues and any other excuse under the sun.
