Ryanair new fee

I don't fly with them but feel out of fairness to anyone who does, you should be warned.

We need a modern Consumer Act to end such behaviour, at least at short notice.

Ryanair plane

Ryanair: Passengers accuse airline of 'scandalous' new fee

Passengers say they are being told to pay to get a boarding pass online or face queuing at the airport.

Just for comparison, what is the difference between EasyJet and Ryanair for example? I haven't flown EJ as they don't use the airport I regularly need. I know they have a bigger hand baggage allowance, but do they have add ons or is it a flat fare for everyone? OK I can look it up, but someone might know to save me the bother.

They treat their customers like human beings.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 04/12/2023 19:48

Well I like Ryanair. It’s cheap, you have to be careful not to get sucked in to extras, but it does the job and I don’t find it hard to book with them at all!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/12/2023 19:53

The only people complaining are those who are too cheap to pay for what they want, but expect it anyway.

Nope. Dh and I and our teen dc aren't interested in paying extra to sit next ro each other - we are just fine seated separately. Why on earth should that mean that we aren't allowed to print out our boarding passes and have to pay extra for Ryanair to do so?

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 04/12/2023 19:55

Incidentally, I just flew with a school group with Eurowings. Reasonable prices, 1 free teacher seat, and I was able to print out all our boarding passes 72 hours before the flight.

lesdeluges · 04/12/2023 20:08

I've just had a look at the Irish papers online. Can't see anything about this. It's all British speculation so far AFAIS. Denied vehemently by Ryanair also.

Got us talking about RYR though, and now that they have denied it, many will think they are kind and customer focused again lol 😉.

Great stunt.

Overhead baggage should be banned

Why? Newer aircraft have larger overheads, and you know your luggage will be at the right airport when you get off. What harm does it do to those who opt not to use the overheads.

Desperatelyseekinganame · 04/12/2023 20:19

I flew last night, Sunday with Ryanair from Dublin to UK. As I had not purchased a seat, I could not download an e boarding pass without buying one. I didnt want to do this so queued in airport for a paper one. Ryanair staff member said this was new procedure that started at weekend so not sure why people are saying it is not happening, it is! Pretty inconvenient.

RigorMortisRadio · 04/12/2023 20:23

Goodornot · 04/12/2023 19:29

I wouldn't fly Ryan air if you gave me a free ticket. Provincial airports. Extra charges for everything I don't know why anyone would - it isn't cheap with all of the add ons.

I'd say 80% of the time it is still cheaper even with the add ons, the main reason I choose them over EasyJet though is because they seem to have a lot less delays.

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/12/2023 20:23

It’s crazy. Don’t they also do a thing where if you forget to check in online and have to queue to do this and get your boarding pass at the desk they fine you! 😂

lesdeluges · 04/12/2023 19:28

I have no affiliation with O'Leary or Ryanair, however why are many of you whingeing about having to pay for a flipping seat or a boarding card?
IF the story is true which I suspect is a publicity stunt,or a system issue, or indeed overbooking etc., then Ryanair will be delighted to have people talking about them.

That's because people like me, and there are millions like me who know the score, are prepared to pay for the times, dates and seats we want. We don't overload our bags, or bring Nellie the Elephant's trunk as hand baggage etc. etc. If kids are coming and you want them to sit with you then PAY FOR YOUR SEATS. It is outrageous that many don't and feel entitled just because they have kids so expect others to move. Not on IMV.

We could play ping pong on this all evening. But it is indeed very true that there is a choice out there, so why don't the whingers make a different choice with whom to fly? I guess I know the reason, and it's the same one the vast majority understand. Cost.

If I wanted a particular seat, I would pay for it. If I was travelling with a child, I would pay to reserve seats (and do so, frequently). If I want baggage I will pay for it. 9 times out of 10 I want none of these things, I just want any seat and a small bag I can shove under a seat because I'll be coming home later that evening or the following morning. Why should I have to pay for a boarding card, and queue for 30+ minutes, in these circumstances?

Hopefully everyone refuses to pay and just queues up and gets it for free at the desk. Which will cost Ryanair more in printer ink, paper and staff time than if people could have free e boarding passes like they used to!

You don't have to actually, as long as you don't use Ryanair. So why use them?

Why shouldn't you?

Clearly they don't think it will hurt their profits. And it might prompt more people to pay for a seat.

Complaining about airline a la carte pricing is like expecting five-star Michelin fare for McDonald's prices.

LaurieStrode · 04/12/2023 20:48

It could be that they are trying to winnow out the lowest-paying passengers. As is their right.

People complain about airline service but they ALWAYS shop by price. That's why flying as an experience has devolved so much.

ReallyVeryOverEverything · 04/12/2023 20:50

This is not clear on the website at all - we just kept getting messages saying 'you cannot check in online please do so at the airport'.

Which we did.

It cost £56 (IIRC) each for a family of five. That was far more than the flights.

Won't go near the robbing cunts ever again.

lesdeluges · 04/12/2023 20:51

We will soon ALL be Priority Boarding passengers! Rows 1-10 board first cost 500. Rows 11- 16 next please, cost 400. and so on until you are in the toilets which will cost a penny spend.

Great fun to come when some blow their tops about the boarding cards charge. Get onto another airline if you're not happy. The rest of us will be delighted.

And the great thing is, those queuing for their (paid for) boarding cards will not annoy the "seat selection" passengers. The non seat selectors can have their rants away from the boarding gate. Sounds great.

tachycardigan · 04/12/2023 20:54

lesdeluges · 04/12/2023 18:46

Levelling up may be a better way of putting it then!

Who is it levelling up for? Are you happy that non-seat choosers will now subsidise you as a seat-chooser?

Unfortunately I can't always shop by price, I'm more constrained by flight times that will get me to whatever work thing I need to be at on time, and back again when I need to get back. The choice of airline isn't always about the money. However I generally find Easyjet and Ryanair very similarly priced for the routes I need (apart from this particular issue).

They can always purchase a seat instead of this so called cross subsidisation surely?

Why do you have such a chip on your shoulder about non seat selectors? Do you hate the ones who don't rant when they get a middle seat ,or don't expect anyone to move for them? Do you realise that there are a lot of single travellers who don't care where they sit or who they sit with?

No it isn't. You've tried to hide it, but when you open the picture in a new tab you can see that you've tried to mask the year!!!

You need to improve your Photoshop skills!

PeanutAndBanana · 04/12/2023 20:57

Annoying. I never get issued a boarding pass when I travel with Ryanair as they always want to check my Australian passport. No other airline does this flying from the UK but I suck it up because the queues are usually very short. So now I will be a long queue without even the option of buying my way out of it.

tttigress · 04/12/2023 20:58

I don't Ryanair, but the thing is ...

I decide where I want to go, and the dates that are best (roughly).

I then decide on the flight. There is usually only a realistic choice of one or two, if Ryanair was one of those, I would consider it (may main consideration would be time if day).

So I don't get all this "I will never fly Ryanair again", realistically it might be you only choice.

evilharpy · 04/12/2023 20:59

What the fuck are you talking about? I've masked my name, the airports, the flight number and the flight times which are displayed beside 1 Dec at the bottom. I'm fully aware that you need to open it in a separate tab to see the full image. The year isn't even on the original screenshot.
