To warn you of the latest extra charge Ryanair are doing

Ryanair new fee

I don't fly with them but feel out of fairness to anyone who does, you should be warned.

We need a modern Consumer Act to end such behaviour, at least at short notice.

Ryanair plane

Ryanair: Passengers accuse airline of 'scandalous' new fee

Passengers say they are being told to pay to get a boarding pass online or face queuing at the airport.

I prefer trains anyway

Don't put ideas into their heads. I think Ryanair actively hate their customers.

No need to put ideas in their head - they already charge £55 for therapeutic oxygen:

So do some others. I think air france does.

Two pages in and everyone is ignoring the very first paragraph of the article:

Ryanair has said reports of a change to their charging policy are false and that passengers have never been charged to download boarding passes.

It's clear that this is another non-story and that somebody just fucked up their booking.

I think the article was updated a little over 20 minutes ago so it might not have said that for a good portion of the thread.

Why wouldn't you pay for seat selection

Because when you are travelling as a couple, or adults with older children, you don't care about where you sit and you don't care whether you are next to each other or not.

Soontobe60 · 04/12/2023 17:17

We flew to Seville a couple of weeks ago with Ryanair. When I can fly to southern Spain for much less than the cost of a return train ticket from manchester to London, I’m not going to complain about the prices.

gotomomo · 04/12/2023 17:25

Ryan air can be cheap but you just need to add the costs up for what you need. Personally I hate lugging luggage onto the plane so I pay for hold luggage meaning it's usually cheaper with a better carrier but I have flown for £13.50 fairly recently. Only two days so managed with a tiny bag. You get what you pay for

Allfur · 04/12/2023 17:26

Charityshopchic, but some families do care

StarlightLady · 04/12/2023 17:28

@gotomomo - I get that you hate lugging luggage onto the aircraft but at least you know it is actually travelloling with you. Plus you can whizz through the other end. I travel a lot for work, I get a hold luggage allowance but often don't use it. And I've had hold bags go to the wrong place!

Chocoswirl · 04/12/2023 17:30

I hate Ryanair. Last flew with them over 10 years ago and promised myself I never would do again.
I consider the excitement of flying to be a part of the holiday. There is no excitement with Ryanair, only pure, cold dread. The saving in ticket price is not worth ruining the first and last day of my holiday over. They will never get any money from me.

Charityshopchic, but some families do care

Those that care where they sit will have to pay for the privilege.
Those of us that don’t care will get a cheaper flight.
(and Ryanair do a family ticket deal for those travelling with small children)

Zamzamzamdeedah · 04/12/2023 17:32

I flew with low costs and better ones and low costs are perfect for short trip under 2nhours. Don't understand what people find so horror like.
Get to the airport on time and with correct sized bags, get into plane, sit, get out of the plane, leave airport.
For longer flights better airlines are better on comfort side and extras like meal included absolutely.

TheCatfordCat · 04/12/2023 17:32

Ryanair hates its customers. If it's a choice between trying to figure out where all my money has gone on a Ryanair flight and spending money on alternative transport, I'll pick the alternative transport. Too much flipping aggravation.

I also HATE EasyJet. If I want to go anywhere in Europe, I get the flipping train.

Thank you to the person who posted the link about the 'drip pricing' consultation. Maybe the next government will act on this, as I doubt the current one will.

Ah thank you.

Is anyone else finding Ryanair to be increasingly hostile to customers? They're actively inconveniencing us.

They never wanted to be convenient though. They wanted to be cheap. They promised A to B and literally nothing else. And they do that. Tjey do what they say on the tin really.

RigorMortisRadio · 04/12/2023 17:59

Ryanair make flying much more accessible to

RigorMortisRadio · 04/12/2023 18:01

Argh pressed send too soon

They make flying more accessible to less well off people as they not only offer super cheap flights if you are happy to go without the extras but also fly to lesser known destinations which are cheaper on the other side.

LaurieStrode · 04/12/2023 18:06

Why shouldn't people pay for what they want instead of being subsidized by others who don't want the same thing?

If you want to save time, book the seat. If you don't, queue for your boarding pass. There are perks associated with higher fares, as there always are and always will be. Don't expect first-class service for fourth-class prices.

I love airline a la carte pricing because I'm not subbing others' meals, seat selections, luggage, etc.

Exactly. Would people rather go back to the days when only a few could even contemplate air travel?

mynumber · 04/12/2023 18:09

Ryanair are denying this is happening now.

Daphnis156 · 04/12/2023 18:13

I remember ages back when Ryanair was a real airline.
Now it's just a money making, low service, poor quality outfit.
They just go on inventing further ways to charge you- wasn't there a song about this from Fascinating Aida?

KnottyKnitting · 04/12/2023 18:14

I never bother paying for chosen seats. I rarely pay more than £25 for Ryan air flights so the seats will often be more than half the price of the flight. If I am now made to queue for a ticket then I will not be using Ryan air again.

They really are shooting themselves in the foot with this policy. The ONLY reason I use Ryan air is because of price. If they stop being cheap I won't use them.

tachycardigan · 04/12/2023 18:16

Do Ryanair only accept printed boarding passes?

What if Ryanair is still the chespest when you add in seat selection?
