To never buy Anchor butter again?

Alittlegusty · 30/11/2023 20:16

I feel well and truly duped and am so annoyed.
They were on ‘special offer’ and cheaper than Tesco standard so I bought a few for Christmas baking.

They looked the same size as the other butters..

But I’ve gone to use one and it’s 200 grams instead of 250 grams..

The weight is well hidden on the back.

Scammers!

I’m NEVER buying Anchor butter again!

Same with Lurpak !!

greenacrylicpaint · 30/11/2023 20:18

yanbu
butter is one of the things that should come in standard sizes.
what the heck will we do if we come across grans recipe asking for half a block of butter?

GabriellaMontez · 30/11/2023 20:18

I was scammed by them a few weeks ago. I'll also never buy it again!

MyCatIsPlotting · 30/11/2023 20:19

Yes! I am boycotting Lurpak for the same reason. I knew butter had come down in price but I ordered some online, and only realised when unpacking it all. Felt so much lighter. Getting sick of being taken for a mug, do they think we won’t notice?!

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 20:19

This enraged me when Lurpak tricked me the same way.

Country Life block butter is still 250g so will have my undying support.

VickyEadieofThigh · 30/11/2023 20:19

Total Fage Greek yoghurt - the only genuinely Greek yoghurt they sell in most supermarkets - is what I've been having for breakfast for years.

Not only did they bang the price up by more than 33% all of a sudden - they took 50g out of both the 500g and the 1000g tubs.

Absolute feckin' robdoggery.

TheBluestEye2 · 30/11/2023 20:21

The Cornish butter is much better anyway!

DahliaMacNamara · 30/11/2023 20:21

I noticed that about some butters a while ago. The own brand ones I usually buy are still 250g. The only thing you can do is not buy the shrinkflationary scam butter.

ShellfishSeller · 30/11/2023 20:22

Did they reduce the price by 20% (excluding the special offer)?

Sainsbury's have reduced the size of a bag of Maris Pipers from 2.5 kg to 2 kg but have also reduced the price by 20%.

sprigatito · 30/11/2023 20:23

This happened to me yesterday. I ordered online so wasn't paying attention. I was really, unreasonably incandescent when I unpacked it. This time of year I already feel like I'm having the lifeblood slowly drained out of me, and this was the last fucking straw.

FofB · 30/11/2023 20:35

Totally with you. Popped into supermarket without glasses, saw the price, thought it was a bargain.

Pure rage when I went to do the baking.

greengreengrass25 · 30/11/2023 20:41

Also Clinique foundation

I'm sure it used to be a 50 ml bottle or did I imagine this

GellerYeller · 30/11/2023 20:42

Oh no -I got ‘on offer’ Lurpak spreadable at £2.50 the other day. I need to check the pack size don’t I? 🤦‍♀️

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 30/11/2023 20:43

I clocked this in the supermarket I always look at her per kilo or per gram price. I don’t know they try to con us.

AhBiscuits · 30/11/2023 20:45

That's outrageous, a block of butter is supposed to be 250g

I’m NEVER buying Anchor butter again!

A lot of coffee packs have done this, also Lurpak.
I also avoid them now.

StillWantingADog · 30/11/2023 20:47

I have learnt to always look at the price per kilo.

not sure about other shops but in sainsburys this is very clearly marked

Rummikub · 30/11/2023 20:47

I noticed a while ago in the supermarket. So I got a normal sized pack and put it in the anchor box so the reduced size was highlighted to other shoppers!

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 20:48

Yes the tubs are 100g less! Outrageous

Buffypaws · 30/11/2023 20:48

I am never buying 200g sticks of butter and was enraged when they tried this trick. Boycotting Philadelphia for this as well - they did it twice. 200g became 180 then like 165.

OneTC · 30/11/2023 20:50

You'll be boycotting every brand eventually if that's your mentality, also how are you only just noticing this?

Ourshoddyhouse · 30/11/2023 20:50

Lidl Cornish sea salt butter 👌🏻

The do a proper Greek yoghurt too 🙌🏻

WasRobbed · 30/11/2023 20:55

Boots hot water bottles have downsized too.

I detest the sneakiness of it. Just put the prices up if you have to. It’s so sly and treats customers like fools.

Ocani · 30/11/2023 20:55

Shrinkflation is one thing but butter packs are standard 250g.

These supermarkets are such bastards. As for checking the price per 100g, it doesn't tell you what that is if you buy a nectar price product plus while I mostly do check I don't even think to with butter because like I say it's a standard size. A pack is even used as a unit of measurement when baking fgs.
