To never buy Anchor butter again?

I feel well and truly duped and am so annoyed.
They were on ‘special offer’ and cheaper than Tesco standard so I bought a few for Christmas baking.

They looked the same size as the other butters..

But I’ve gone to use one and it’s 200 grams instead of 250 grams..

The weight is well hidden on the back.

Scammers!

I’m NEVER buying Anchor butter again!

yanbu
butter is one of the things that should come in standard sizes.
what the heck will we do if we come across grans recipe asking for half a block of butter?

Have to weigh out 4oz if your scales are not g only.

MassageForLife · 30/11/2023 21:01

There has been loads of these recently. I'm pretty sure kettle chips have reduced the bag size from 150g to 130g.

Radox shower gel changed their packaging a few months ago and made the bottles smaller.

Walkers special flavours eg the pigs in blankets crisps are in a 5 pack for the same price as a 6 pack of their normal flavours.

Rubytoos · 30/11/2023 21:03

Uggghh, I bought Lurpak on special offer the other day, didn’t bother checking the size, it’s so depressing.

viques · 30/11/2023 21:04

I have stopped buying nice crisps (which were my go to treat) since apparently potatoes and oil prices are now on a par with gold and diamonds. Even own brand nice crisps have shot up in price.

Rummikub · 30/11/2023 21:05

I’m sure if the pack size was made bigger they’d be advertising it as new pack size!

CapeeshKitty · 30/11/2023 21:05

Oh my gosh this is why I was confused with baking last week. I gaslit myself thinking I messed up (usually one butter bakes two things. but I didn't have enough)

now I know why

Tinkerbyebye · 30/11/2023 21:05

It’s the same with lots. I like anchor though so will be buying. In this case they kept the price the same but reduced it, whereas others keep the size the same but massively increase the price

boudiccathecat · 30/11/2023 21:07

Ive had a cake recipe ruined recently with this malarkey. It’s Asda 250g packet for me now

chiwowowa · 30/11/2023 21:08

Aha! me and a relative were only just saying that dairy products seemed to be getting cheaper. We've been had!

BadgeronaMoped · 30/11/2023 21:09

This drives me mad. I always say I'd rather they just put the price up!

Couldyounot · 30/11/2023 21:09

Yeo Valley are also guilty of this particular type of fuckery. Shop's own still tends to be 250g though

Movinghouseatlast · 30/11/2023 21:10

Yeo Valley have done the same. Bastards.

Butter is meant to be 250g

User136921 · 30/11/2023 21:10

Also beware buying Pringles in Iceland, the tubes in there are 165g not 185g, I discovered this when I bought a tube I thought were on offer but no cheaper than anywhere else and then DH pointed out they were smaller, I checked online and it was so. The tube have already shrunk anyway from about 200g

Midwinterblues · 30/11/2023 21:11

It’s bloody outrageous isn’t it, so sly. Own brand all the way now.

And their yoghurt. Titchy pot, 400g I think, instead of 500, and bloody outrageous price.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 30/11/2023 21:16

I blame BREXIT. Pre metrification I think butter was sold in half pound packets, which is 227g. So joining the Eu gave us more butter (to be fair, there was a butter mountain back in the ‘70s 😂), and now we’re out we get less butter… ;)

Ocani · 30/11/2023 21:18

Those fuckers.

It's getting harder and harder to make sensible food shopping decisions. Different sizes, different layers of pricing, do you have a nectar, how many in a pack, on and fucking on.

I actually find it quite stressful.

There was an article last week about there being a worry that there won't be enough potatoes for Christmas https://www.itv.com/news/2023-11-27/could-the-record-low-potato-crop-threaten-christmas-dinners

Strawberrypicnic · 30/11/2023 21:22

Anchor's been shrinkflated for a while! So has Yeo Valley. The supermarket own brands are best at the mo.

Daisies12 · 30/11/2023 21:23

YABU to buy anything branded. It’s pretty obvious when you see it on the shelf

LostFrog · 30/11/2023 21:23

Thanks for the heads up mumsnet x

porridgeisbae · 30/11/2023 21:24

Such is shrinkflation. Always read the small print :)

CumbrianYorkshireHybrid · 30/11/2023 21:26

This is really old news.
