To never buy Anchor butter again?

Alittlegusty · 30/11/2023 20:16

I feel well and truly duped and am so annoyed.
They were on ‘special offer’ and cheaper than Tesco standard so I bought a few for Christmas baking.

They looked the same size as the other butters..

But I’ve gone to use one and it’s 200 grams instead of 250 grams..

The weight is well hidden on the back.

Scammers!

I’m NEVER buying Anchor butter again!

Home Bargains does very reasonable butter for about £1.70 or maybe that's just Northern Ireland. Fine for baking.

This drives me mad. I always say I'd rather they just put the price up!

That's great for you but shit for someone who's budget is already stretched and doesn't need a full 250g of butter might might have a recipie that uses a knob at a time.

ScandiNoirNuit · 30/11/2023 21:52

Bloody annoying, they have deliberately done it so the pack on shelf doesn’t look that different. I picked up one the other day for baking and was mighty peeved to find it wasn’t the right size. It will be the suppliers doing this rather than the supermarkets though.

reesewithoutaspoon · 30/11/2023 21:52

You really have to be careful now. But even the X price per Y labels they have on products aren't always clear. seems to be made as difficult as possible to gauge a comparison between two similar products. like 3 onions in a pack and the labels say X price per onion, but the loose onions are labelled X price per 100g or 1kg.

Ourshoddyhouse · 30/11/2023 21:55

Oh I must be confusing the Greek flag for a Union Flag, silly me 🥴
Produced in Greece must mean something different to what I thought too.

Shrinkflation. They all do it, bastards!

GreenDay9irl · 30/11/2023 21:57

With Tesco online it tells you if an item is no longer available. It then gives you a why not try option. More often then not the why not try option is the same item but smaller and usually more expensive.

RumNotRun · 30/11/2023 21:59

@whizzbangpopsplutter Waitrose also sell Kri Kri greek yoghurt which is cheaper again and bloody lovely. Depending on what I buy, I don't find Waitrose more expensive (I did an excel spreadsheet one month on the price per ml/g for all my shopping) but the quality is fantastic. They also do 250g butter 😁

It’s 1,49 in Scottish home bargains

littlbrowndog · 30/11/2023 22:03

One of papers done a tasting on butters. And Lidl West Country came up top and it’s 250 grams £1.99. It is lovely

SaffronSpice · 30/11/2023 22:03

Not only is it less weight, it is only 7 ounces. I need 8 ounces for my recipes. Or 4, never 7.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 30/11/2023 22:06

This is the 0% one - says it is authentic Greek yogurt?? Not Greek style?

On shrinkflation look at the size ofCadburys Christmas variety packs. They’re tiny.
I had noticed about Lurpak. I’d never buy spreadable- it’s not got much butter in it anyway.

And this is the problem. Lots of UK recipes are based around 8oz. It means you'd have to buy two packs of butter.

Yeo Valley have done the same. Bastards.

Butter is meant to be 250g

I got caught by them. It never occurred to me that butter wouldn't be the standard 250g.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/11/2023 22:12

Never mind the butter , Whiskas pouches were 100g , now (with new design and gormless looking cat on the box ) they're 85g Shock

15% smaller , our cats are discusted and going to write a strongly worded email to someone in Parliment .

No they don’t

Sorry pic l added was for you - thought l tagged you

Haffiana · 30/11/2023 22:18

Fage is no longer proper Greek yoghurt. A few years ago they lowered the fat content from 10% to 5%. A 5% yoghurt is a cheaper, less premium product. 5% is the usual fat content for a bog standard plain whole milk yoghurt, and only just over the fat content of whole milk.

Proper Greek yoghurt that is actually strained will have a higher fat content because it is concentrated. That is why it tastes so good. If you compare Kri Kri sold in Waitrose, or their own No1 Greek yoghurt they are infinitely superior to Fage.

oakleaffy · 30/11/2023 22:19

Shrinkflation

Coffee mate used to be 500g now it's about 350g for 50% more money

It's daylight robbery what they are charging.

oakleaffy · 30/11/2023 22:23

I had to look up ''Gormless Whiskas cat'' 80g.
He does look like he had fallen into someone's coffee mug.

TINY 'arms' on him.

I used to buy Tesco own chocolate covered raisins 200g pack for 80p they changed to 180g for £1 now at 150g for £1.10.

Can understand one or other as in weight/price change but certainly not both.

Notmyfandango · 30/11/2023 22:27

Bastards, what's next an "almost pint" of milk?

Yes, I love Waitrose quality, too. It surprises me to learn it's not expensive compared to Tesco or Lidl or Aldi.

mouse70 · 30/11/2023 22:33

I now always check any food items for price per 100gm/kilo and compare. Anchor 200gm packs of butter where identified a number of weeks/months ago, surprised so many people did not know about it. I use own brand butter from Asds/Sainsbury/Lidl and all are fine.

mrsbyers · 30/11/2023 22:40

Ainsley Cupasoups - gone from 4 in a pack to 3 and same price , he can cock off
