To never buy Anchor butter again?

I feel well and truly duped and am so annoyed.
They were on ‘special offer’ and cheaper than Tesco standard so I bought a few for Christmas baking.

They looked the same size as the other butters..

But I’ve gone to use one and it’s 200 grams instead of 250 grams..

The weight is well hidden on the back.

Scammers!

I’m NEVER buying Anchor butter again!

Total Fage Greek yoghurt - the only genuinely Greek yoghurt they sell in most supermarkets - is what I've been having for breakfast for years.

Not only did they bang the price up by more than 33% all of a sudden - they took 50g out of both the 500g and the 1000g tubs.

Absolute feckin' robdoggery.

Tesco do an authentic Greek yogurt

Ourshoddyhouse · 30/11/2023 20:50

Lidl Cornish sea salt butter 👌🏻

The do a proper Greek yoghurt too 🙌🏻

No, it is not Greek yoghurt in Lidl. It is Greek style yoghurt. The ‘style’ is written sideways. There is a world of difference between Greek yoghurt and Greek style yoghurt.

madeinmanc · 30/11/2023 21:27

Taylor's of Harrogate coffee is now 200g instead of 227.

As good as the Lidl Greek yoghurt is, it's not on a par with Fage. It's outrageous what has happened to the price of Fage!

savoycabbage · 30/11/2023 21:28

Lurpak now have 250g and also 200g and 180g. I was at Morrisons and they don't even sell the 250g.

PinkyFlamingo · 30/11/2023 21:28

Some brands reduced to 200g ages ago! It's annoying for me as I use two 250g blocks to a 1kg bag icing sugar when making buttercream

No they don’t

TeaGinandFags · 30/11/2023 21:30

@greenacrylicpaint they used to. Now the crafty sods try every sneaky trick in the book. And the sequel.

Sometimes you can get a better idea by looking atvthe price per kilo or litre on tje price label. (Though the supermarkets ...)

SisterMichaelsHabit · 30/11/2023 21:30

I thought you were going to say it wasn't really made from green, green grass. 🤣
All you heathens need Kerrygold.

AhBiscuits · 30/11/2023 21:31

Both Tesco and Lidl do a Greek style yoghurt and Greek yoghurt in a smaller tub.

CinnabarRed · 30/11/2023 21:31

Quorn nuggets come in packs of 24. Except the last three packs I’ve bought have each had 23. But it still says 24 on the packing.

Makes me furious - 23 is a prime number so doesn’t divide evenly among any number in a family. How could they possibly think we won’t notice that?

LoreleiG · 30/11/2023 21:32

I came on thinking you were probably overreacting but I agree. Butter should be in 250g packs only. I know by sight what 50g/4oz or whatever is from those. 200g is just plain wrong!

sardinesatemysandwich · 30/11/2023 21:37

I discovered this with milk in Costco I thought the milk seemed small but thought I must be imagining it and it is now 2 litres instead of 4 pints which is 2272ml usually. Cheeky feckers. They only sell one "brand" of milk but it means the dairy have changed the bottles they fill, they are just slightly smaller than the normal 4 pint.

Apologies if they do

AdoraBell · 30/11/2023 21:40

Shrinkflation is being applied to loads of products. I always check now 🧐

MrsCarson · 30/11/2023 21:43

I was nearly caught with that one. Then saw one pack was on its side and noticed it was thinner than the other brand. It does make you feel cheated.

wjpa · 30/11/2023 21:44

I used to use the 250g packs when they were divided up with lines into 5x50g
I used those lines all the time
Recently I noticed there were fewer lines as the pack is now 200g
It was earlier this year
YABU though, it's fucking tasty so still buy it

Tighginn · 30/11/2023 21:44

Fits my butter dish better though...

madeinmanc · 30/11/2023 21:45

I honestly can't discern the difference between any butter (real butter, not "spreads" etc.) at all. I'm envious of those who can, they must have a more developed sense of taste.

TerrysChocolateOrange · 30/11/2023 21:46

@SisterMichaelsHabit

Agreed.

Tesco for cooking.

Kerrygold for inhaling. 😂

whizzbangpopsplutter · 30/11/2023 21:48

@VickyEadieofThigh get yourself to Waitrose. Their No 1 Greek yoghurt is as good as Fage/Total, except better because all Fage Total Greek yoghurt in the supermarkets I frequent now seems to be low fat (0%, or 5% if you're lucky). Which as far as I can see defeats the entire point of Greek yoghurt. I never bother with the Total stuff any more now I've discovered the Waitrose one. And it's cheaper! (Their Duchy Organic Greek style one is also far less runny than most other Greek style ones, though PP is correct that Greek style is basically a different beast.)

Yeo Valley seems a lot softer out of the fridge. But i mainly use block butter in cakes so can't taste the difference!

Edited

If you complain to the company you’ll almost certainly get some freebies

twirlywoop · 30/11/2023 21:49

It's obvious though? It would be with the other butter that is bigger? Never mind, you know now. So you can buy it again as it won't be deceptive. I think it's clever really, they've worked out how much people are willing to pay per week etc for butter and said right you can get this much for that. It's better than making it more expensive and putting it out the range of people.

Piccalillipromises · 30/11/2023 21:49

The metric system has allowed this scandal, bring back imperial for food!
I'm young enough that I wasn't even taught imperial measures at school but I still prefer them for cooking, and they wouldn't be able to get away with this nonsense so easily!
