to think that, mothers that do not even try to breastfeed, are selfish and perhaps lazy?

yes i know their will be women that have been sexually abused or have hiv or something, yes there is always, the execption to the rule.
but in gerneral, why do some women not even try?
this really baffles me?

JV you forgot to ask what car she drives
that could be the clincher

CatIsSleepy · 13/03/2008 10:26

oh dear
i am the youngest of 4, my mother bottle-fed me because, she says, she didn't have time to breast-feed me
breast-feeding a tiny newborn can be very time-consuming and this is a consideration if you have other children to look after
I don't think she was lazy or selfish
so there you go

JeremyVile · 13/03/2008 10:27

PPH, I just assumed she wouldn't be able to drive....dont know why........

PuppyMonkey · 13/03/2008 10:29

I didn't try it all with dd2. I couldn't be arsed with it all frankly...

SheikYerbouti · 13/03/2008 10:29

lol at PPH

rantinghousewife · 13/03/2008 10:30

Jv, perhaps Danny drives her everywhere

mrsruffallo · 13/03/2008 10:31

Interesting puppy- couldn't be arsed?
I hear that a lot
Surely it is more bother to bottle feed than breastfeed?

PrincessPeaHead · 13/03/2008 10:32

yes JV you are right. and there probably isn't anypoint in asking what buggy she uses either, as I expect she swaps it on a weekly basis, hun

PuppyMonkey · 13/03/2008 10:34

Mrs R - for me, no.

TotalChaos · 13/03/2008 10:34

ahem JV just because people don't drive doesn't mean they are more likely to be a pathetic trolling/narrow minded divvy.

nickytwotimes · 13/03/2008 10:34

mrsruffalo, I did both and trust me, breast feeding was MUCH harder! Painful, lengthy and isolating, sadly. Hoping it works better with no.2 if we get one!

Piffle · 13/03/2008 10:35

LMAO at FF being lazy option
I breastfeed precisely as I cannot be arsed to clean, sterilise, fill with certain temperature water, reheat, get up go into kitchen
I much prefer, roll over, boob in, roll off.
I'm lazy and selfish

Fillyjonk · 13/03/2008 10:35

But I AM lazy.

this is WHY I bf

FAQ · 13/03/2008 10:36

I've done both (BF and FF) my DS's - and while I exclusively BF DS1 for 14 months I did find it a bother - more of a bother than I found to FF DS2

mrsdannydyer · 13/03/2008 10:36

fair enough, if they find it too difficult. but to not even try seems madness to me.

catissleepy is your post ment to be said in a jokey way, didn't have time to bf.
or is that the real reason?

OP posts:
moopymoo · 13/03/2008 10:36

hmm...well I see that this is an inflammatory thread adn i do think that we all have different circumstances and certainly I do agree that bf does not make you a good mother any more than formula makes you a bad one...or viceversa. But.. a small naughty judgy part of myself agrees with the op. this is perhaps because i fed my 2 for years between them and it took up a huge part of my life. so it became something i felt strongly about and perhaps a little smug. and in true counsellory fashion, i am owning that smugness

PuppyMonkey · 13/03/2008 10:37

Believe me, ff was MUCH easier for me!!

peanutbear · 13/03/2008 10:38

Snap piffle thats why I BF too and its why I co slept as well

policywonk · 13/03/2008 10:38

mrsdd, you're completely out of order to call millions of women 'selfish and lazy'.

In answer to your question, 'why do some women not even try?' - other than the exceptions listed in your OP, I'd point to the generally hostile public environment where bf-ing is concerned. How many times on here have we heard stories of womem being verbally abused, publically humiliated or bullied for bf-ing their babies in public, or having to face down hostility from their own partners and families?

Hulababy · 13/03/2008 10:38

Only read OP.

YABU to call these women selfish and lazy.

You have no idea what makes a woman make the choice not to breast feed.

Why judge them at all? Why not just support all new mums and let them make decisions theselves about how they will deal with their baby?

mrsdannydyer · 13/03/2008 10:39

i honestly cannot understand. if the mother knows its the best thing for the baby. why any mum wouldn't want to do the best thing for them???.

OP posts:
teasle · 13/03/2008 10:41

You must be a wind up, surely?

RubySlippers · 13/03/2008 10:41

MrsDD - have you read any of the responses?????

mrsdannydyer · 13/03/2008 10:41

thats why im asking, so someone and can give me an idea of why they do this.
i honestly am willing to listen.

OP posts:
TheWiltedRose · 13/03/2008 10:42

Because whats the point in having a breastfed baby when the mother is knackered/depressed/sore/angry/disturbed by doing it!?

How does that benefit the baby?
