7 dogs in Starbucks today is too much

Elfandwellbeing · 25/11/2023 18:47

I turned around and walked out again, don’t get me started on dogs sniffing cups and plates of food whilst sat next to the owners.
What is the solution ?
Can’t dogs be left anymore?
AIBU to think dog separation cannot be so painful that dogs have to go everywhere!

Omg I had no idea you could take dogs in Starbucks, thanks so much for letting us know!

Elfandwellbeing · 25/11/2023 19:33

To the poster asking what breed.. not sure I’m not a big dog person but I recognise the German shepherd for sure, problem is it stood up and shook its fur … dust and hair … grim, I left.
I guess those that are not bothered by dogs in cafes don’t mind eating dog dander. Up to you then… but I do and by the comments here … so it seems do other people. And that is the point, why should people impose their dog on others.

YABU to walk out WITHOUT telling staff WHY.

If you want change, you need to give feedback.

I have a dog but never take her into cafes.

ThisIsntThe80sPat · 25/11/2023 19:33

Agreed. Can't stand it. Leave your bloody dog at home.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/11/2023 19:34

If you willingly go to somewhere called a "cat cafe" you know what you are signing up for. Someone should make a fortune by opening a chain of dog cafes.

zurala · 25/11/2023 19:34

YANBU. I was in a local cafe today and some dogs started snarling and going for each other through table legs. I find it scary, and it ruins an expensive coffee out (latte over £4 so I don't want it wrecked by a dog fight).

MumsGoneToYonderLand · 25/11/2023 19:34

If I am on a dog walk and want a coffee I tie my lovely, well behaved dog outside, where I can see him through a window, order my coffee and drink it outside. Where I live it’s very dog friendly, Bowls outside many businesses. But if people are afraid or allergic to dogs they shouldn’t have to put up with it in a cafe. Sometimes I see people taking their dogs into supermarkets. Just no. Leave them in the car or at home. I have also seen dogs pee against the counter.

Bolloxforsure · 25/11/2023 19:35

I completely understand that not everyone wants to be near my dog. I’ll take him to a pub though and perhaps to get a coffee with me if we’re out on a walk. It’s up to others to go elsewhere if they’re not happy with the rules of the place they’re visiting.

Another miserable dog hater. This has been done to death on MN

You think 7 dogs isn't excessive? 🤔

ActDottie · 25/11/2023 19:36

TatoSpice · 25/11/2023 18:51

Go elsewhere then.

This

youre so miserable! Good for Starbucks allowing dogs, my dogs are my family.

Screamingabdabz · 25/11/2023 18:51

One dog in an establishment serving food or dog is too many.

I'll let my assistance dog know. Legally he's allowed in. You aren't.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/11/2023 19:36

Also, the cats in a cat cafe will be residents. Not visitors who have been out in the mud and rain before putting their paws up on the table and begging for food from other customers.

lesdeluges · 25/11/2023 19:36

I can't be bothered with dogs or kids in cafes, so I either bring my own coffee in my heated cup or grab a takeaway and sit on a bench. I could put a sign at my feet saying "allergic to dogs and kids, please help". I'd probably make enough to set up my own dog and kid free coffee shop. My dream....

ActDottie · 25/11/2023 19:37

Screamingabdabz · 25/11/2023 18:52

Tell us where. There is no escape from them.

Go home

This.

Nelly91 · 25/11/2023 19:37

I have horrendous dog allergies and just wish dog owners would consider this or at least take it seriously.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 25/11/2023 19:37

Deliadidit · 25/11/2023 18:50

I Vote with my feet too and won’t go into coffee shops that allow dogs in.

This country is becoming over run with bloody dogs! The solution is to stop treating them like babies and leave them at home.

@Deliadidit

its not treating them like babies to take them with you for a day out,

Dogs are companion animals, people mostly get dogs because that's what they want, not to leave them at home.

i don't have a dog ATM, but if I did we'd have gone for a lovely forest walk today & ended up at a pub/cafe.

these dog hating threads are bloody tedious. If the cafe allows it & you don't like it, go elsewhere.

IGotItFromAgnes · 25/11/2023 19:38

I think cafes should have to be licensed to allow dogs. Then perhaps there would be more of a choice for people who are allergic / phobic or just plain don’t like them.

I live in a town where every single cafe allows dogs (and a very dog friendly wider area). I’m allergic to dander but if there’s one or two it doesn’t bother me too much - more than that and I’d have to leave. It makes going out for the day very difficult as well. I’d just like to have some non-dog options!

AnonyLonnymouse · 25/11/2023 19:39

I think I do understand the OP’s point though. I am not personally keen on dogs but I do understand how much they mean to their owners. However, a dog friendly policy that seemed reasonable/fair enough when there was just one dog tucked under a table and another in the opposite corner, can become just too much when there are multiple dogs in the aisles or sitting right next to your table. Especially large breeds. Even a well-behaved dog can be an inconvenience to others, because they behave in different ways and use space differently to humans. Not to mention the hygiene issues of dogs in places where food is served.

Just as an example, I was in a cafe with a friend the other day and an owner walked down the centre of the aisle towards the counter. Their dog (medium sized, on a lead) was pretty muddy and wearing a waterproof coat, obviously fresh from a walk. Fair enough, but the owner stopped to speak to someone almost immediately behind my chair and the dog was milling around at the owner’s feet. The owner seemed oblivious and hadn’t told the dog to ‘sit’ or anything. It was too late to move because they were right behind me. My coat was on the back of my chair. Of course, when I got back to my car I noticed that a good proportion of my coat sleeve was covered in said mud from the dog’s waterproof coat. Thankfully mine was a washable coat and went straight in the machine, so it was not a huge problem, but I still had to wear something different later that day while it was drying. It was the coat that I like to wear most days so an inconvenience that I could have done without.

This is a dog-tolerant cafe as most places in my neighbourhood are (they have up a notice asking for dogs to be kept clear of aisles and for owners to be considerate) but even so this message doesn’t always seem to get through.

Having a dog in a public place was previously not very common, however they now seem to be absolutely everywhere so perhaps ideas and practices need to be adjusted?

Same here!

I actually really like dogs despite being allergic, but some of the posts on this thread are pure batshit. It's as if some people (note I said some) have common sense bypasses when they acquire a dog.

Desecratedcoconut · 25/11/2023 19:42

I'm allergic to dogs, with the added bonus that they trigger my asthma, so I'm forced out of these dog friendly places. Thankfully, I'm not in Kendal.

I too am sick of dogs everywhere, I go to coffee shops and restaurants etc to enjoy a quiet drink or meal, not to listen to dogs whining and barking at each other, and wandering round on long leads sniffing and being trip hazards. Plus the obvious hygiene concerns - I saw a Facebook post on a local group where the poster's dog was sitting on a sofa on a pub with its front feet on the table. There were a lot of people saying how unhygienic that was, along with a load of idiots saying how cute it was and saying that anyone who didn't think so was clearly a dog hater. Er no, just that they have their place and sitting at a table isn't it.

birdglasspen · 25/11/2023 19:43

I love dogs, I’ve owned a dog, I still get you. It wouldn't personally bother me but I never had to take my dog everywhere with me. It’s getting ridiculous, dogs can be left now and then!

backtowinter · 25/11/2023 19:43

Makemydaypunk · 25/11/2023 18:54

The solution is you go somewhere else, you have far far more choice where to eat and drink than a non dog owner, so just go to another establishment, if I see dogs in a cafe it makes me want to go in, love dogs.

Not in my town

I can't think of a single cafe or coffee shop that is dog free
