Is it just becoming the norm? How is everyone affording it in a cost of living crisis?

Yes and it’s not just women, I work with a bloke in his twenties with massive filled lips, Botox, HD brows etc 🤷‍♀️

Lip filler makes people look cruel somehow. I feel a bit frightened of people who have had it done.

Yes! I was wondering why I thought that the girls I see with filled lips, false eyelashes and very heavy brows make me feel a bit uneasy. They do look harsh and a bit scary. I got chatting to a young woman on the bus the other day (she'd dropped her phone and I retrieved it for her). She was lovely and very sweet but her face looked hard and frozen with the pout, heavy makeup and eyelashes.

IWIllDoItNowInAMinute · 22/11/2023 23:51

I think in a lot of cases lip filler makes people look older. I automatically assume that people who have obvious lip filler, Botox and excessive make up are at least 10 to 15 years older than they are presenting themselves as. It gives me Katie Price vibes no matter what their age is.

Zoflorabore · 22/11/2023 23:51

I live in Liverpool and it’s everywhere here too. I think it looks bloody horrible and fake looking. Never seen one that looks natural. I have a few people on FB that have posted their results and they look so bad. I don’t get the attraction whatsoever and wouldn’t get it done if it was free.

How people afford it is their own business... but it becoming a norm is worrying. How many women will be getting it to appear to meet some new standard of normal (much like shaving legs/armpits), rather than actually wanting it?

It's the fact that everyone looks the same!

I know it's not the first era for that (60s 'dollybirds') but everything is the same - facial features, teeth, facial expressions, hairstyles, fashion everything. Much less individuality

marvelousmarmite · 22/11/2023 23:55

I don't like to critique other people's faces but do feel genuinely grossed out by the look of filled lips. I think it's also the fact people often seem to put shiny gloss or something over them? They kind of remind me of fat slimy slugs.

WinterDeWinter · 22/11/2023 23:56

Did all the posters being shitty about the posted photo miss her 2 posts that explain that she had a bad accident, 3 x facial reconstructive surgeries? Or do you just not care about other people’s feelings at all?

Onand · 22/11/2023 23:57

It looks utterly terrible on I’d say 80-85% of people that have it. Some people it can make a positive difference and really changes their look for the better, for most though it looks too obvious and cheapens your image. The same with fake teeth, absolutely insane to think the damage people have done to their own teeth in order to have bad veneers fitted.

It’s on its way out. The trendiest of young teens do not do filler or enhancements, very 2010,s!! . 90’s look of hardly any make up is in now. Always takes the other generations ages to catch up. It’s pretty unfashionable to have fake lashes and filler / heavy make up / contouring and tight gym clothes now.

Yes good point. Even Kim K looks to have a more natural look these days like she wants to look like she has no makeup on, just great skin.

Peckahminn11 · 22/11/2023 23:57

I also cannot stand it. It simply does not look natural no matter how little you have. You can ALWAYS TELL. I have friends that have it and it looks bloody gross. I've had a tiny bit of Botox to ease the wrinkles but you wouldn't know and that cost me a fortune in itself

Angrymum22 · 22/11/2023 23:58

We have natural big lips as a family. I hated them when I was young, I thought they were so ugly.
I have noticed that a lot of women have them done to even up their top lip. Naturally top lips are meant to be slightly smaller. Too much filler flattens the philtrum and you lose the natural bow ( kiss shape).
I found an old photo of my grandmother, I never met her, she died when my dad was a few days old. But it’s her lips that we have all inherited.
I have posted her photo, circa 1930, along with my DS’s lips. He has been asked if they are natural by girls at school. He’s 6’3” and a rugby layer, you can imagine his reply.

As others have mentioned, it's all the licking and slobbering😬

WinterDeWinter · 23/11/2023 00:00

@suntannedsnowballs i think your lips look great and presumably they are pretty like your natural lips before the accident. I can usually spot filler but wouldn’t have spotted this, mainly because the top lip isn’t blown up to be the same size as the bottom, like a cartoon. You look lovely.

mafsafanuk · 23/11/2023 00:01

Cincinnatus · 22/11/2023 23:18

I can always tell. However ‘natural‘ someone thinks they are. I assume they have self esteem issues which is sad. Or they want sexual attention.

Yes me too I think aw she's insecure

howdoesyourgardengrowinmay · 23/11/2023 00:01

Lip fillers / trout pout - right up there with tatts. Grim as fuck .

Intelligenthair · 23/11/2023 00:02

Fillers and massive lashes just make women look like sex dolls to me. It’s grim.

ManchesterLu · 22/11/2023 23:29

The problem is, lip filler that looks nice is subtle (same as botox etc), so you wouldn't be able to tell.

You can only really notice the bad fillers. Some people look horrendous, and the people who injected the filler should be struck off, quite frankly.

Struck off from what? They're not regulated.....

I have naturally plump lips and my bottom lip is a lot plumper than the top lip

zinfi · 23/11/2023 00:08

The tiny amounts, like 0.3-0.5, for anti ageing is fine IMO and those amounts can go undetected, but the fashion for some is for them to be noticeable. That's the idea! The overfilled look is a horrible look, and it's a one-way road to migration, with dissolver (this can cause problems, if the support groups for hyaluronidase are correct) being your only recourse.

Albioncreed · 23/11/2023 00:09

though.. some people with naturally big lips look like they’ve had work.

at the school gates there is a woman with big lips and I always assumed she had them done. Then I looked at her 6 year old son and realised that it’s just that big lips run in the family

zinfi · 23/11/2023 00:09

I hope they do become regulated. I think some changes are afoot there though, unless that's just botox related. I can't remember.

How do we know we can always tell, though? We think we can, and think we can even spot the subtle “I’ve had it done but you can’t tell” ones… but if there are examples even more subtle than those, it could surely be the case that we haven’t noticed them and can’t tell! We’d be none the wiser unless the person said!

TurquoiseDress · 23/11/2023 00:14

I personally think it looks awful and would never want to get it done

Each to their own but really hope DD doesn't feel the pressure to do this in years to come

babbygabby · 23/11/2023 00:20

Thats the bit I find really sad. There’s a certain look that you see on some women & men & they have the same face, it’s super weird.

olivialennox · 23/11/2023 00:22

I think it can look nice sometimes, eg Kylie Jenner looked really nice when she initially had lip filler years ago.

But generally it doesn’t look great on most people. I think the overly ‘fake’ look is beginning to look a bit dated though
