Is it just becoming the norm? How is everyone affording it in a cost of living crisis?

I know, it's horrid but I think it's a passing fad. In 20 years we will be looking back and thinking 'why did anyone ever think that was a good idea?'

CampervanKween · 22/11/2023 22:54

I know, it looks ridiculous 🙄 makes their lips stick out from their faces - really looks odd side in especially.

UncomfortableSofa · 22/11/2023 22:55

It's all the licking and pulling them off their teeth with their tongue that gets me. Do they suction to the teeth or something?

Gobleki · 22/11/2023 22:56

It’s on its way out. The trendiest of young teens do not do filler or enhancements, very 2010,s!! . 90’s look of hardly any make up is in now. Always takes the other generations ages to catch up. It’s pretty unfashionable to have fake lashes and filler / heavy make up / contouring and tight gym clothes now.

suntannedsnowballs · 22/11/2023 22:59

I had necessary facial surgery (corrective, after an accident) and got a small amount to re-balance my lips/return them to the way they were beforehand

You can't tell I've had them done - DH knows, but my own mother still threatens to kill me if I "fuck with my face" Grin and she will never be told the truth

However, I paid an absolute fortune to a plastic surgeon to have them done.. and he was under strict instructions to make it look like I didn't have any. I think the going rate around here for lips is £150 - £200 for 1ml

I had 0.5ml and it cost me £375

I will probably have to keep it up annually but honestly, you can't tell

I could maybe find a photo

IClaudine · 22/11/2023 22:59

Wait until fashion decides very thin lips are in and then there will be a whole industry for that.

funbags3 · 22/11/2023 23:01

Just watching someone on the telly who is finding it difficult to talk as her lips are so puffy. All the lip-smacking/licking going on gives me the heebies.
It looks bizarre.

watcherintherye · 22/11/2023 23:01

Thank goodness! I thought from your thread title that there had been some awful accident with your lips…

suntannedsnowballs · 22/11/2023 23:02

My lips look very normal

Lip fillers don't automatically mean duck lips

Lip filler everywhere

If you say so!

Gobleki · 22/11/2023 23:05

I argue with my daughter that the skinny brow will make a full return. Everything is a fashion, absolutely everything. They are always eventually followed by their opposites.
Major fashions such as jeans/ eyebrows styles last about 10- 15 years. First 5 is for the most fashionable, last 7 ish even the mums got onboard. Last two even the grandmas do. That tips the kids over the edge so they revolt against it with the opposite.

YABU to start another thread on this when this has been done to death and one thread was very recently. Also, not everyone is affected by the cost of living crisis.

Gobleki · 22/11/2023 23:07

Would need to see pic from side to judge.

suntannedsnowballs · 22/11/2023 23:08

Yes @OhNoForever I do think so

But given I nearly died and had to have three different surgeries on my face to put it back together, I'm quite pleased with how I look

@Bahhambug you don't know what you're talking about. That's absolutely not true.

funbags3 · 22/11/2023 23:09

@suntannedsnowballs You look very natural. When done properly, they can look great.

Cocoadoodle · 22/11/2023 23:10

I’m sure there are many people with lip fillers who look great and natural and we have no idea about. But the people I think you are talking about look horrendous. I look at them and think “Are you happy with that?” It looks so bad I feel like they can’t be, but sadly I think they are.

Red0 · 22/11/2023 23:11

I think you mean the ones whose top lip look like a shelf. These women usually have really bad false eyelashes as well.

Gobleki · 22/11/2023 23:13

Not true about same lips too and bottom. Bottom lip nearly always bigger

StayingInTheInn · 22/11/2023 23:13

It does seem very common now. They obviously prioritise having it and others have said its not expensive.

Cincinnatus · 22/11/2023 23:18

I can always tell. However ‘natural‘ someone thinks they are. I assume they have self esteem issues which is sad. Or they want sexual attention.

Sorry but you can tell, your top lip is flipped and has a ridge.
It’s not always obvious to the wearer because they only see them when they are static. It becomes much more obvious when you move your lips.
The biggest give away with all filled lips is that the border between the dry part of your lip and the wet part moves allowing the wet part to dry out so you constantly lick your lips.
The more extreme filled lips cause speech to be altered, probably when it’s combined with Botox.

Orphlids · 22/11/2023 23:20

Lip filler makes people look cruel somehow. I feel a bit frightened of people who have had it done.

GoingOffOnATangent · 22/11/2023 23:20

@Bahhambug not true.

What I wonder is what happens as you age. If you've inflated your lips for years, presumably you need to keep it up forever or at some point you have deflated wrinkled lips when your skin loses it's natural elasticity?
