Is it just becoming the norm? How is everyone affording it in a cost of living crisis?

Duck lips. They look absolutely ridiculous.

SweetBirdsong · 22/11/2023 23:22

@suntannedsnowballs your lips (the bottom one anyway,) looks very filled. Doesn't look natural. Doesn't look awful, but doesn't look natural.

Agree OP, all these young lasses filling their face and lips with so much crap, is so sad. As has been said, many young women looked better before.

LadyWithLapdog · 22/11/2023 23:23

I saw a pregnant woman recently with obvious fillers. I was thinking of the disconnect between not drinking a glass of wine during pregnancy to protect the baby, but also injecting your body with shit.

Angrymum22 · 22/11/2023 23:19

Sorry but you can tell, your top lip is flipped and has a ridge.
It’s not always obvious to the wearer because they only see them when they are static. It becomes much more obvious when you move your lips.
The biggest give away with all filled lips is that the border between the dry part of your lip and the wet part moves allowing the wet part to dry out so you constantly lick your lips.
The more extreme filled lips cause speech to be altered, probably when it’s combined with Botox.

Yup. It's always obvious, whatever people like to think. So many Hollywood stars where you can spot it a mile off, even though they're probably paying a fortune to the best cosmetic surgeons. It distorts how your mouth moves, and looks particularly unnatural in profile.

LadyWithLapdog · 22/11/2023 23:26

I’m watching some old TV currently (mid 80s, not ancient). The actors all look so natural, even with all the makeup they must have had at the time.

Angrymum22 · 22/11/2023 23:27

GoingOffOnATangent · 22/11/2023 23:20

@Bahhambug not true.

What I wonder is what happens as you age. If you've inflated your lips for years, presumably you need to keep it up forever or at some point you have deflated wrinkled lips when your skin loses it's natural elasticity?

The natural colour fades and the lips start to resemble lumpy old pillows or frog spawn.
As a dentist we get a really close up view of filled lips. They also feel weird. A bit like a big blister.
We don’t really know what the longterm out comes are but I do know that a lot of dentists who used to do lip fillers have stopped because they are worried about litigation in the future. Something most beauticians don’t worry about, they struggle with the concept of indemnity insurance. They assume that their normal business insurance will cover them. They can take out indemnity insurance but it’s likely that the insurers will not cover anywhere near what they really need.

My lips look very normal

Lip fillers don't automatically mean duck lips

Your lips look lovely in this photo. If I saw this picture I would not know if you hadn't told us.

Dweetfidilove · 22/11/2023 23:29

I happened upon an episode of Married at First Sight yesterday and jeez… The faces looked - well 🥺.

Of course, what people choose to do with themselves is their business, so I’ll keep my eyes covered and my mind otherwise occupied 🤦🏾‍♀️.

ManchesterLu · 22/11/2023 23:29

The problem is, lip filler that looks nice is subtle (same as botox etc), so you wouldn't be able to tell.

You can only really notice the bad fillers. Some people look horrendous, and the people who injected the filler should be struck off, quite frankly.

panca · 22/11/2023 23:30

Just stop staring at people's lips (unless you need to lip read) and you'll be fine

SweetBirdsong · 22/11/2023 23:31

MsRosley · 22/11/2023 23:26

Exactly this. Filled lips never look natural, no matter how much people try to convince themselves that they do. Also, someone always comes on to these threads and says 'well I have lip fillers and MINE look natural!' and they post a picture, and it's like 'errrrrr, nope! Actually they don't...' 😆

Therealweld · 22/11/2023 23:32

There are no lines or ridges in the filled lips.
Remind me of sausages.
They look bloated, and in some cases, sore.

I think 'victim', when i see these over filled lips.

There was a young woman on the tube with some of the wurst (ha!) I've seen.
I felt sorry for her.
Why do that to yourself.

I guess we have had this discussion about false breasts too.
And false buttocks.
False nails.
False lashes.

A parody of femininity.

witchypaws · 22/11/2023 23:33

Naturally full lips aren't the same top and bottom Confused
My upper lip is thinner than my top. But then I've been told on here I have obvious lumpy lip filler before so Grin

Lip filler everywhere
FrustratedMumHelp · 22/11/2023 23:34

They can look nice and subtle but most cases, people dont know when to stop and start to look terrible. Sausage lips 🤦🏻‍♀️

HeathrowQuestion · 22/11/2023 23:34

Humans are expert at sitting fake and slightly off appearance. It’s a horrible flaw/ genetic advantage.

I completely judge anyone who has had this done for non-reconstructive reasons. I’d think you were weak, a bit vapid, and appearance- obsessed. I know many regular folk have it done but northern me just can’t shake off the disdain

glossypeach · 22/11/2023 23:34

I don’t care what people do with their own bodies, but my issue is why they feel the need to have it done in the first place. All these cosmetic procedures are becoming so normalised it’s terrifying. So many people are comparing themselves and changing their appearance based on what they see on social media, when a majority of the time it’s photoshop anyway. I hope people become comfortable in the body they’re in and not feel pressured in today’s society.

HeathrowQuestion · 22/11/2023 23:35

*sorting, not sitting

panca · 22/11/2023 23:36

It's a rebound. We all had to wear masks for so long - make up focused on the eyes. Now lips are back.

zinfi · 22/11/2023 23:38

The worry is places I've seen advertised offering over 1ml for £60 or less. Or the aestheticians who will inject as much as people want, even if it's not necessary or might not be suitable for them, just for the money. I see that with ordinary filler too. So many people not trained properly too.

I see too many bad lips. Though there's also good, subtle work too.

Mackeroo · 22/11/2023 23:41

I agree with the poster who said they're on the way out. Younger, trendier women are not going for that look at all and it's starting to feel dated. It may take a while to filter down but it is just a fashion (ditto massive eyebrows)

SkandiPandi · 22/11/2023 23:42

I find the lip flip more strange. That upturned lip looks so immediately fake; I don’t understand why people do it. I think it’s worse than filler.

zinfi · 22/11/2023 23:42

A Facebook friend of mine put a picture of her and her teenage daughter online recently - I was appalled to see the daughter obviously had lip filler too. Completely unnecessary and unflattering.

Yeah my friend is always slobbering licking her lips and then there’s all white frothy bubbles at each side, gross!

KimberleyClark · 22/11/2023 23:44

It’s quite unusual to see a woman on tv without filled lips now.
