Is it just becoming the norm? How is everyone affording it in a cost of living crisis?

Compare what Ellie Goulding used to look like back in 2010 to what she does now. I know she's aged, but it's obvious she'd had a lot of work done and she looks nothing like herself anymore. I barely recognised her. She looks like any other Instagram influencer now. She used to look distinct and very naturally beauitful.

Scruffington · 23/11/2023 20:00

I'm not sure I buy the idea that filler has much of a class divide. These days the Made in Chelsea lot are as likely to have lip filler as the Towie cast. Maybe though there's more of an effort to make it look natural from those who are a bit higher up the social scale, than the obviously 'enhanced' look that some other women favour.

Yes, an awful lot of young women seem to be sporting a very exaggerated pout. I think it looks bloody awful and very "tarty", a bit like those hideous bum extensions that some people have done!

I guess the people that have these procedures done must like themselves looking that way. Each to their own.

Pickingmyselfup · 23/11/2023 20:01

I had lip filler because my natural lips are non existent. I don't think it looks OTT, I think you can tell especially when you are looking for it but I much prefer them now to how they were. My top lip is still smaller than the bottom but you can actually see it now. I don't notice me licking my lips any more than I used to although I think they do stick out more.

I'd never guess you had lip filler from that photo.

This is the before photo, not a drastic change but they have just been plumped up a bit more.

@FlissyPaps

I'm from a working class northern town, I live in a very middle class area in London next to a posh school who have non uniform so I see those girls everyday. My son does to a school with a different catchment and I see the mums there and where i grew up is very similar. No I don't know everyone's unique circumstances but the aesthetic in my home town is very very different to the one where I live now. Maybe there's no trend.... It's just what I see.

faffadoodledo · 23/11/2023 20:25

I live in a small village in Cornwall and don't notice fillers at all really. Went to London the other week and it was remarkable how many there were. So yes, in many many cases it's noticeable. Women just looked different to the way they do here at home. Sort of identikit, no matter what their ethnicity in many cases.
Makes me sound so small town old fashioned! But I think if you live in a city the fake look might look normal these days.

Eike · 23/11/2023 20:01

...

She looks atrocious. She was strong-featured but she pulled it off. Having swollen baboon arsehole lips does her no favours, at all.

toomanyleggings · 23/11/2023 22:40

I have a deep scar on my upper lip and had filler in the hopes it would plump it out. Didn’t actually want bigger lips but was advised to have a little all over and just a bit extra where the scar was. I really didn’t like it and felt like I was walking around pouting like an idiot all day. It dissolved very quickly within weeks thank goodness

Anotherparkingthread · 24/11/2023 00:36

Fucking hell. The comments on here. 'blow job lips' ... 'make a 25 year old look like mutton.' ... 'tarty'.

And yet apparently home of the feminist rebellion. I image all of you would be absolutely fine with your husband's, sons, and fathers etc talking about women in such a way. What about men in general talking about women's bodies that way?absolutely vile. You should lead by example.

The words used in this thread to describe women on this thread are dehumanising. It's not for you to like and their choices on how they choose to alter their appearance are of no consequence to you. The language you have used is no different to vile language used to demonise women for wearing short skirts.

I'm fucking appalled that grown women go around talking about other women like this.

twinklystar23 · 24/11/2023 05:52

I think its a hugely worrying trend. I've known of a few young women training as beauticians who do a few months training to inject filler.
There was a you tube video where two doctors talked about the possible side effects of the filler migrating into the face giving a balloon - face effect. As others have said in profile it is very obvious as it distorts the natural line, which isn't evident on those with naturally big lips.
It particularly makes me sad for younger women who clearly feel the pressure to do this and thought that feminism would have given them the confidence to feel good about being themselves than injecting themselves with toxic substances to achieve in most cases an overly sexualised look. I also think it's the influence of easily accessed
Porn

RiderofRohan · 24/11/2023 07:33

My mum (who is Nigerian) finds it hilarious because when she was growing up in London in the 70s, having big lips was ugly and African, and she was told this regularly. I also saw lip fillers advertised as 'Russian lips' the other day and I thought way to whitewash everything.

LadyWithLapdog · 24/11/2023 07:34

Re geographic variations. I was in a big European capital a couple of weeks ago. Obviously augmented lips were quite rare vs central London (to compare like with like). Hopefully, the trend is on its way out.

CuboidsAndSpheres · 23/11/2023 07:51

Exactly this ...Makes me think of engorged labial lips every time I see an overdone pouty pair!

You must feel the same about naturally full lips, women non-white by origin. Fine by me, Quite happy to be sexually appealing and put out subliminal messages of my attractiveness.

I wouldn't think poster thinks that at all. This is not a race thing. We all know when lips have been overfilled, out of proportion to other facial features. Theres a difference from angela jolie natural lips v Leslie ash .

SpringingJoy · 24/11/2023 07:49

She's gone from looking 17 to 45 imo. A combination of the fillers, lashes and heavy make up has put years on her.

@Anotherparkingthread thank you. Thank you thank you thank you. I thought there was just me and literally one other poster who felt like this. Reading these vile vile comments has made me feel sick to my stomach. So smug and contemptuous and judgemental. Who would have that that there are as many women who think like this as there are men. It's honestly soul destroying.

CuboidsAndSpheres · 24/11/2023 08:49

In what way is it not a race thing?

Saying some fillers look bad is one thing.

Saying they look like engorged labia lips is another.

What's the difference between filler lips and mine? Why does one look like an engorged labia and not the other? Because 'oh the cupids bow looks off' doesn't cut it. @Loubelle70

CuboidsAndSpheres · 24/11/2023 08:52

What does proportion even have to do with 'engorged labia lips'? It applies to all large lips. Why would ones on non-white women don't suddenly not look like that? I would love to get back from that poster

FWIW I believe it’s a filler technique that came from Russia (you also hear about “Russian lashes”). It doesn’t relate to emulating the face of a Russian woman.

explainthistomeplease · 24/11/2023 09:31

Are we entering the complicated area too of whether certain looks are culturally appropriated? The jury swings all over the place on dreadlocks for instance. But Rachel Dolesal and Jesy Nelson were unequivocally hauled over the media coals for their blackface looks. Do filled lips do the same thing?
Discuss..

Youre wanting to make this into a race row when it isn't one.
Did she say 'black person's lips ' or anything similar to that? No.
Theres white people with larger lips...but you can tell if theyre natural... example again angelina jolie. Its about societal expectations of whats attractive , usually to the opposite sex. Nothing to do with race.
