And feel plain

OP posts:

They're exactly the same thing in the sense that some people hate being overweight.

And the OP hates having brown eyes.

Both are completely valid when that person is talking about themself only.

What the rest of the population do or don't have is neither here nor there to them.

Its subjective though isn’t it, you think OPs upset is valid, but that others with dark brown eyes being upset by this post isn’t. I think others upset is valid even though I don’t feel that way. You can decide OPs feelings are more valid thank others all you want, it doesn’t make you right, or me 🤷‍♀️

SinisterBumFacedCat · 19/11/2023 00:42

I’m jealous l have blue/grey eyes, I am always drawn to very dark brown eyes, like dark chocolate colour.

Dark eyes are lovely. I have hazel eyes that are brown in the middle surrounded by olive green then dark blue rims. They are one of my best features and I’d never want boring blue eyes.

Ha, Me too!

Mine look quite different in different lights too - do yours?

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 19/11/2023 00:50

My mum had the most beautiful dark brown eyes, looked lovely with her dark hair and she tanned so easily. None of us ever happy, I have dark hair and green eyes but always wanted blue eyes like my son as think black hair and blue eyes lovely. You can brighten up your eyes with nice different eye shadow that will make them pop. Bet they are gorgeous and sultry. Be happy with what you have got and make the most of them.

Yeah I do honestly get what you're saying.

It's just that if we all followed that line of thinking we could never open up about our feelings, because no matter what we feel down about, be it kids, money, work, housing, health, pets, friendships, marriage, weight, eye colour or literally anything at all, someone could then come on and tell them to consider other people's feelings.

And that's the sort of thing that can stop people opening up and getting what bothers them off their chest if you see what I mean?

I guess one person's problem is another person's trivia.

LE987 · 19/11/2023 00:52

My husband has the most beautiful dark brown eyes, almost black, and my DD got her dads eyes, they are beautiful. We always want what we don’t have.

DuplicateUserName · 19/11/2023 00:54

Mind you having said that, this thread has already brought about nasty comments about 'boring blue eyes' and 'boring grey eyes', and the OP hasn't returned so maybe they just wanted to start a bun fight? 🤷‍♂️

Yep, they look different all the time. My husband said he noticed my eyes first. I’ve found purple eye colours really make them stand out so I’ve been practicing getting a nice effect.

I agree. In this case the OP has posted a brief one liner, and then has not returned despite 5 pages of replies which I think makes it more frustrating. Such is the nature of mumsnet though. Hopefully OP gets something positive out of this thread anyway.

VintageBlossomHill · 19/11/2023 01:31

No way. I love brown eyes. I get it hard to stare at people with them. Beautiful. Xx

Fionaville · 19/11/2023 01:38

I like brown eyes best. My entire family have brown eyes. To me, they are warmer and more beautiful. I feel like there are only certain shades of blue eyes that are as striking.
But it's completely subjective, I'm sure people who prefer blue eyes, feel the same way.

loreau · 19/11/2023 01:41

It's not the colour of the eyes that matters in then. It's the spark in them. The surest path to that is to have some great sex. (You can do something else great like do some very challenging but rewarding work or make a great work of art or read a very fascinating book or go for a swim in a beautiful location - but they are all a lot harder work than the sex one).

DumboHimalayan · 19/11/2023 01:44

You what? I think you're sexing wrong.

maratara · 19/11/2023 02:23

Best part of my face is my dark brown eyes and long curled dark eyelashes. Not so happy with the rest!!!

Cas112 · 19/11/2023 05:21

Holidayhell22 · 18/11/2023 22:44

I suppose the ideal beauty standard in the west is blonde hair and blue eyes.
However your eyes are probably beautiful op.

According to who? Hitler?

Don't be so ridiculous

sollenwir · 19/11/2023 05:38

TeaKitten · 18/11/2023 22:47

Is it?

If you lived in certain time periods, perhaps, not now though.

I love eyes of all colours, they can reveal a lot about a person.

I was thinking the same.

IAmAnIdiot123 · 19/11/2023 06:22

I always wanted dark brown eyes.

It's like the curly/straight hair thing, people often want the opposite of what they have.

katienana · 19/11/2023 06:25

I have dark eyes and I've been told loads of times how sexy they are! One of my children has brown eyes the other blue both of them have beautiful eyes.

Omgwhatnow99 · 19/11/2023 06:33

Any eye colour can be pretty, shape and size is more important than colour. You could easily pop contact lenses on but if your eyes is off it wont help much.

Ruminate2much · 19/11/2023 06:39

All eye colours are equally beautiful in their own way; and nature is clever in giving us the eye colour that suits our hair and complexion.
I'm blue-eyed. I love chocolate brown eyes, though they wouldn't suit my complexion. I'm sure you have beautiful eyes - embrace them ❤️

urbanbuddha · 19/11/2023 06:39

Always thought my dark brown eyes are my best feature! If you feel yours are letting you down dye your hair blonde - that’s a great combination.

Omgwhatnow99 · 19/11/2023 06:41

Cas112 · 19/11/2023 05:21

According to who? Hitler?

Don't be so ridiculous

Its been like that in the media since pre 2005. It comes up stated like a fact in tv shows and films like "of course nobody could resist her! Blue eyed blonde bombshell" there is more fuss, songs and movies that centre around beauty being white, blonde with blue eyes.
The hitler beauty standards are still alive and well with the popular ski slope upturned button nose rhinoplasties, dislike of dark curly hair as witchy and other unpleasant stereotypes.

Ruminate2much · 19/11/2023 06:42

Funnily enough, the thing I don't like about my eyes is that they're so deep-set! I like the colour, but they're very deep-set, especially when I'm tired, and I have virtually no eyebrows! I think I look a bit like an alien when I'm very underslept! A blue-eyed alien. I think many of us have features we'd happily swap...

I have brown hair and brown eyes. I have been told I am so lucky that my kids have blond hair and blue eyes and that I must be proud about it. I honestly didn't know what to say in either occasion.
