To hate having dark brown eyes

And feel plain

OP posts:
Torganer · 18/11/2023 23:17

Mine are brown, I get so many compliments on them. I wish they were darker though, mine are a bit muddy. All my family have blue/green/grey. It just depends where you live. Mine are more of a rarity where I am from, so maybe that is your issue?

Neverendingstory2 · 18/11/2023 23:18

I used to wear hazel contacts to lighten my dark brown eyes then one day I looked at others and myself and thought dark eyes are gorgeous! I was ridiculous thinking otherwise. I wish people would appreciate them more. I see blonde and blue eyes as the beauty standard where Im from and I find that quite sad.

RobertaFirmino · 18/11/2023 23:19

They are just eyes. Two small circles of colour. Be grateful they both work because feeling 'plain' is something that comes from within, it has nothing to do with melanin.

UnctuousUnicorns · 18/11/2023 23:19

My beauty ideal is black hair, brown eyes and pale to medium complexion. Blonde hair, blue eyes - meh.

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 18/11/2023 23:20

Well done for insulting 80% of the world’s population, OP.

This place gets worse day by day.

Disorderla · 18/11/2023 23:27

DH’s dark brown eyes were what first attracted me to him. I think there is a depth and a warmth to really dark brown eyes that is very attractive. They’ve always made me melt.

I’ve always been self conscious about mine (a very light blue) as I used to get told my eyes looked like wolf eyes (not said in a complimentary manner).

I always pictured my dc having
chocolate brown eyes, but they both ended up with my bright blue, still gorgeous, obviously!

In the end I think this is just an extension of that old saying that we always want what we don’t have (or assume we would have more confidence if we had it) different colour eyes, different colour hair, curly/straight hair etc.

BaileysCoffeeCreme638 · 18/11/2023 23:34

I went to Amsterdam recently

There were several shops suggesting customers look into a special device that showed their eyes in great detail. This image was made into art of any size. You could look at your own eyes.

Therefore I doubt very much if your eyes are "plain brown"

Perhaps you should try this yourself ?

Lillygolightly · 18/11/2023 23:34

I get it, I have brown eyes, and sometimes I admit to finding them boring, but I have been complimented on them by others. I personally love dark green eyes and occasionally I used to wear green coloured contacts if I fancied a change but I’ve not done that for years now. I suppose to a degree we all want or admire what we haven’t got.

I am lucky to be blessed with naturally very long dark eyelashes and people used to mention them to me a lot. It doesn’t happen anymore though, now that false lashes are so very popular and common no one ever mentions my eyelashes anymore, I guess they just look normal now and that makes me irrationally a little bit angry 🤣

BumWad · 18/11/2023 23:37

My 4 year old has the most beautiful dark brown eyes, she clearly takes after my sister and my dad. Sometimes I find myself staring at them!

So YABU

Throwhandsupintheair · 18/11/2023 23:40

All else being equal i.e attractive face, nice teeth etc, I love dark brown eyes. There's something that makes me want to delve deeper. They are slightly hypnotic.

Lentilweaver · 18/11/2023 23:41

This is a wind-up, no?

bellamountain · 18/11/2023 23:44

What a ridiculous post!

NotAnotherPylon · 18/11/2023 23:46

Can you see out of them? If so, be thankful.

MintGreenPolo · 18/11/2023 23:46

I do find them plain and boring don’t really understand when people make out like they are beautiful etc as they are plain and the most common eye colour nothing special. I wish one of my children had got my eye colour but they all have their fathers brown eyes.

BashfulClam · 18/11/2023 23:47

Dark eyes are lovely. I have hazel eyes that are brown in the middle surrounded by olive green then dark blue rims. They are one of my best features and I’d never want boring blue eyes.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 18/11/2023 23:50

As per I can only give a personal perspective but I LOVE a pair of nice brown eyes and tend to go for people who are by normal standards “plain”, and there is so much more to you than your looks!

OutOfSyncWithReality · 18/11/2023 23:52

It's the only thing I like about me!

DojaPhat · 18/11/2023 23:52

This is the eye colour of most of the world. Having said that, I can understand why you may feel that way. There's a distinct reason why minorities with blue, green, hazel eyes are considered almost ethereal but anyway be thankful you can see out of those brown eyes.

JFDIYOLO · 18/11/2023 23:53

Brown eyes does not = plain. 🙄

Fixating onto something you cannot change is total self sabotage.

Stop the pity party, get some therapy, and put some self care into place. Start highlighting and showcasing those velvety brown eyes 🤎

It starts with how you think, talk and write about yourself.

Cattenberg · 18/11/2023 23:54

I love men with dark hair and dark brown eyes.

RandomUsernameHere · 18/11/2023 23:56

If you're plain I can guarantee it's not because of your eye colour

WillyWillySpiderWilly · 18/11/2023 23:56

Holidayhell22 · 18/11/2023 22:44

I suppose the ideal beauty standard in the west is blonde hair and blue eyes.
However your eyes are probably beautiful op.

Not sure if that's still the case, seems to be more a leftover from the Marilyn Monroe era. Tanned olive skin is a look many paler women strive for in summer after all!

babbygabby · 18/11/2023 23:56

Eye colour isn’t that important if you are worried about being plain. Shape & size will matter more.

RightOnTheEdge · 18/11/2023 23:57

God some of these replies are so ridiculous!

People criticise themselves all the time and want to change things. Curl straight hair, straighten curly hair, wear Spanx, moan they are too fat, too thin, their bum is too big, boobs too small!
It's human nature!
The OP is just having a moan about how she feels about herself, not slagging off every person with brown eyes!

Posters are just so desperate to jump on anyone and stick the boot in on here these days.

underneaththeash · 18/11/2023 23:59

I think there is a chat GPT thing going on,,,,,
