Rwanda plan

AdamRyan · 16/11/2023 23:05

Was just reading Suella Bravermans thoughts on how to make the Rwanda plan work, which involve sending staff there to review claims and pulling out of all human rights and refugee conventions.

The plan has cost £140m to Rwanda so far, plus £££££ in legal fees and so far we've sent no-one and found out its illegal. I'm very baffled as to why the government are pursuing it, I keep hearing that "most people" support it. So I thought I'd ask:

IABU: It's a priority as it will deter immigration and the government should spend whatever money and time it takes to deliver this

IANBU: The government should focus time/money on other priorities instead.

What we're seeing in this thread is IME typical of liberal leaning posters when somebody disagrees with them, and I say that as somebody with a moderate political stance (which to a lot of lefties is still viewed as being akin to Nazi).

Endless nitpicking about language

Endless nitpicking about quotes and 'reliability' of sources

Endless questions and requests for clarification

And when the above is provided they go back to stage one and start asking for further clarification on the clarifications

And then eventually we reach a stage where we're so far from the original point that they don't need to address it.

Yep

I ignore most now as used to it and takes up too much time plus highly irritating of course

But eventually pp will either have to look at what’s happening or completely close off and make sure they only read an increasingly narrow range of views

They may just rely on these mn threads but the rest of the world won’t give a crap about that, it’ll progress regardless

Give over, 20 or so posts on this thread today and you don't have time to explain what you meant by values? Rubbish.

Taking back control of our borders, cutting immigration to the low tens of thousands...

No
What you are seeing is you being challenged for making a sweeping derogatory statement - Asylum seekers are massively over represented in sexual crime statistics.
Being asked for your evidence is not "nitpicking".
Raising the fact that your single source of information is biased is not "nitpicking".

If you make xenophobic, scaremongering statements like that I'm going to challenge them. Words have meaning, and in the case of highly charged debates sloppy language can be dangerous. If you make generalisations you have to be prepared to defend them.

Meanwhile Wilders wants to visit Putin in 2024 and stop arms/aid to Ukraine. I'd suggest we be careful what we wish for.

@CaramacFiend don't wander onto the Middle East boards then you will have kittens.

EasternStandard · 23/11/2023 14:16

@CaramacFiend you sum it up well.

Have you still not understood @Fieldofbrokenpromises

Migration increase and climate pressures will result in a political shift

Sending people to Rwanda will not solve that.

But every time I provide statistics that show that asylum seekers are massively over represented in sexual crime statistics (e.g. 30% of gang rapes in some countries) you jump back to Rwanda. Confused

AdamRyan · 23/11/2023 14:22

CaramacFiend · 23/11/2023 13:03

Social workers and the police had attitudes that the teenage girls were consenting and didn't pursue action. Even the girls themselves felt like these men were their "boyfriends".

Oh, I guess that makes it alright then. Confused

The groomers were born here, they are British. So completely irrelevant to a discussion about Rwanda.

But maybe not completely irrelevant to the discussion we were having about the attitudes originating from misogynistic patriarchal cultures and their poor integration into our society.

One of the groomers from the Rotherham gang was quoted as saying "All white women are only good for one thing — for men like me to fuck and use like trash.”

Are you really telling me there's no cultural element here?

Remove the word white - All women are only good for one thing — for men like me to fuck and use like trash.”

Are you telling me that this a very rare attitude among men?
Maybe you need to go and read up on studies about men's attitudes to women, how many use prostitutes etc. "Men who hate women" by Laura Bates is quite informative.

This is a problem with patriarchy, not particular cultures. You seem quite familiar with incels so you obviously are aware plenty of white men have these attitudes.

We aren't going to reduce immigration by sending 0.001% of immigrants to Rwanda.

And we aren't going to reduce sexual abuse by focusing on particular ethnicities whilst allowing widespread misogyny and patriarchal attitudes to flourish in the way we detect and prosecute sex crimes.

You haven't provided "statistics".
You have provided one source, not research based, not peer reviewed and about a country not the UK. You got this study and the interpretation from a book written by an author known to be anti-islam.

Plenty of people have explained why you can't extrapolate from one data source in any meaningful way. But you aren't engaging in that. You don't want to debate- you just want to say that immigrants, specifically Muslims, are dangerous.

Now obviously I'm not going to change your mind on it, but I'm not letting this go unchallenged because in my opinion it's racist and dangerous and I want people to be able to see both sides of the argument so they can see why your rhetoric is nonsense.

What did you understand from “Buckle up buttercup”?
and what did you think the poster meant about values of the broadcaster?

The Rwanda Plan is the topic of this thread Confused

And your statistics all come from 1 book.

And within the wider thread are....subtopics. Discussing the over representation of sex crimes in asylum seekers is not the same as debating whether they should be sent to Rwanda. Not too hard a point to grasp I'd have thought (although it may explain your difficulty in understanding the other perfectly clear posts in this thread lol).

And the statistics in the book are from many sources. That's what tends to happen when an author collates data. 😉
