Rwanda plan

AdamRyan · 16/11/2023 23:05

Was just reading Suella Bravermans thoughts on how to make the Rwanda plan work, which involve sending staff there to review claims and pulling out of all human rights and refugee conventions.

The plan has cost £140m to Rwanda so far, plus £££££ in legal fees and so far we've sent no-one and found out its illegal. I'm very baffled as to why the government are pursuing it, I keep hearing that "most people" support it. So I thought I'd ask:

IABU: It's a priority as it will deter immigration and the government should spend whatever money and time it takes to deliver this

IANBU: The government should focus time/money on other priorities instead.

Tell that to the Netherlands 🤷‍♂️

Germany too

UK migration has just hit a record high of 672,000 today.

Many congratulations to the Conservatives and their many plans of action on this matter for the last decade.

They also announced that the total for last year has been revised upwards to 745,000, so 672,000 isn't a record.

And Italy

If your counter claim is the left can be strong on immigration and border issues too. So what? It’s still a reaction to the growing pressures

I’ve already said many times Aus is bi partisan on it, it’s not news to me

And you are happy to folllow their example and vote in a more far right party?

@EasternStandard

It's not playing quote ping pong asking you to clarfy which values you are referring to.

Exactly- that post doesn’t make any sense.

Fieldofbrokenpromises · 23/11/2023 12:46

Buckle up buttercup is my view.
That isn’t a view, it’s a trite and meaningless sound bite.

As per usually the insults come from the 'right wing... and no, your posts rarely make any sense.

Love all this, you are struggling a fair bit.

It is my view. Hence posting it.

Why is it so hard then to say which values you are referring to?

And luckily for me you still read and quote me on EVERY thread

I skip your posts 🤷‍♂️ - except for needy ones with insults like this

As you know by now - your views are not what I’m interested in.

Why can’t we focus on targeting the companies who manufacture the boats…

work at preventing them coming here in the first place

How do you "target" a company in China, selling to a non-UK person or entity?

You’ve all gone postal 😬

Demanding I answer, also I bump threads too much (I’m going with ignoring most on balance)

The Netherlands election is a tough one I know. But it’s simply reflecting what I’ve been saying for a while 🤷‍♂️

It’s easy to project ahead given the pressures that are increasing

DuncinToffee · 23/11/2023 13:00

I am glad you have your 'I told you so' moment Confused

I find the rise of the likes of Wilders, Meloni and scapegoating of refugees extemely worrying.

Life must be tough

If that line really threw you then, well.. you’ll get over it eventually

The important part is politics is shifting due to migration increases and will continue

CaramacFiend · 23/11/2023 13:03

Social workers and the police had attitudes that the teenage girls were consenting and didn't pursue action. Even the girls themselves felt like these men were their "boyfriends".

Oh, I guess that makes it alright then. Confused

The groomers were born here, they are British. So completely irrelevant to a discussion about Rwanda.

But maybe not completely irrelevant to the discussion we were having about the attitudes originating from misogynistic patriarchal cultures and their poor integration into our society.

One of the groomers from the Rotherham gang was quoted as saying "All white women are only good for one thing — for men like me to fuck and use like trash.”

Are you really telling me there's no cultural element here?

Interesting thread here outlining some of Wilder's policies -

"What does Geert Wilders actually want, in policy terms? A 🧵"

x.com/bencoates1/status/1727608887916818612?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

We can assess his success in achieving them in the fullness of time.

I doubt it. Loads of head in the sand on here over all these threads.

What I think will happen is just a view based on shifting world pressures, I prefer to look ahead others can do whatever they want 🤷‍♂️

AdamRyan · 23/11/2023 13:24

Today's immigration figures gave just made me even more confused about government policy.
725,000 immigrants last yearly, a lot of whom were "economic migrants" filling employment gaps in the NHS and social care.
Yet the government policy is "stop the boats!" And Rwanda. That affects less than 1% of immigration.
It just doesn't add up.
I'm sure the Netherlands will find the same as us if they leave the EU - they will still need immigration to fill the labour force as the white population continue to live longer with fewer children. So Wilders has a problem on his hands.

bombastix · 23/11/2023 13:46

The Netherlands would have just the same issues as the UK, yes. But I do think like us, the domestic law can change rapidly.

For example, if the UK had a radically right wing government which was like Wilders, you could see changes in domestic law that would make people's lives very uncomfortable if they did not conform to a mainstream view as decided by that particular government.

Wilders will find it hard to change international conventions and law. But he could just change domestic law to be far nastier than it is. So too could the UK.

CaramacFiend · 23/11/2023 13:48

What we're seeing in this thread is IME typical of liberal leaning posters when somebody disagrees with them, and I say that as somebody with a moderate political stance (which to a lot of lefties is still viewed as being akin to Nazi).

Endless nitpicking about language

Endless nitpicking about quotes and 'reliability' of sources

Endless questions and requests for clarification

And when the above is provided they go back to stage one and start asking for further clarification on the clarifications

And then eventually we reach a stage where we're so far from the original point that they don't need to address it.
