I would divorce my husband if he behaved like Giles Coren did

I read an article in the Mail on Monday about how Giles Coren abused his neighbour who is the mother of an autistic child by pretending to be a delivery driver to gain access to her house in a row about parking. I am the mother of an ASD child and would divorce my husband if he behaved like this. I can’t believe someone who is employed by the BBC has so little control over himself. No wonder he was issued with a police caution. His poor neighbour.

Prize prick, should be ashamed of himself.

So, is Alexander Armstrong his wife’s brother? And, yes - GC is a massive wanker.

I think their wives are sisters.

I think I might know why

Why?

Didn’t he also bully/fat shame his son for putting on weight?

Don’t forget that VCM was “the trollop” (had an affair with writer Harry Thompson whose wife documented it in her DM column)

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/not-as-sweet-as-she-looks-1295980.html

He called his son a “fat little bastard”, which was nice. I think that was another Esquire article but it’s no longer on their website.

I do enjoy a lot of his writing in The Times.

Considering The Times still employs India Knight who is married to a convicted paedophile, I doubt he'll be told to clear his desk.

And India Knight is another one who benefits from her father / step-father. So they have that in common.

He shouldn't be employed by the BBC

What does he do on the BBC? I have never seen him on there, but then again I don't watch much terrestrial TV. I know of him, and what I know of him is really horrible, that piece he wrote about his then 3 year old daughter made me feel sick

He did the Amazing Hotels series with Monica Galetti but was sacked from that last year. He also did a few series with Sue Perkins ages ago - I think they were history type things. But I don’t think he has anything current with the BBC.
The Times seem to be clinging on to him, though.

Why on earth would his neighbour paint a Star of David or a swastika on his house? Has she been known for antisemitic abuse? What a horrible assumption to make about someone, and to use unfounded fears around his ethnicity being targeted as an excuse for his behaviour, honestly, what a bellend.

He displayed classic DARVO.

bombastix · 15/11/2023 18:43

Well he's 54. At 60 he will be washed up and his columns on food are nowhere near as witty as his predecessor Jonathan Meades. Meades I can still read years after the event.

Villyxmas · 15/11/2023 18:43

GC has a drink problem, I’m sure. I‘ve been in the same room as him twice, and both times he was embarrassingly drunk.

Esther was friendly, polite and sober. I felt rather sorry for her.

FreeRider · 15/11/2023 18:44

The whole family are horrible. Ask anyone who has worked in the media.

I wonder if Victoria is nice in real life, after all they are siblings.

I know someone who knows her. She's not horrid but wouldn't describe her as particularly pleasant either.

A certain entitlement for sure.

The row was about a parking dispute. I’ve driven in London as my cousin lives there and know how competitive it is to find parking in residential areas. But to threaten to kill someone over this seems so extreme. I don’t know much about him, but found him very sneering and smug in that grand hotels programme. The young blond guy that replaced him seems much nicer though.

Young blond guy is judge Rinder!

ToWhitToWhoo · 15/11/2023 18:49

So would I, except that I hope I wouldn't have married him in the first place. Horrible man!

cocolamer · 15/11/2023 18:50

I would divorce Giles Coren if my some by some horrific mistake I ended up married to him, I wouldn't need a reason. Did you ever read that article he wrote about his porn addiction and compulsive masturbation, grim.

And Victoria is married to David Mitchell - I picture their family gatherings as a competitive-witticism nightmare with all of them behaving as though they're in an episode of Have I Got News For You.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 15/11/2023 18:52

Nobody should continue to employ him at this stage. It is effectively giving him an audience, which he uses to attack people who don't have an equal voice.

Saschka · 15/11/2023 18:52

Well it wasn’t his charm or personality was it?

Marmalade71 · 15/11/2023 18:52

Awful man, repeatedly vile. I've no idea how he's still in work

Katbum · 15/11/2023 18:53

His wife wrote a blog about how this is untrue. I’ve no idea if he is a decent guy or a good husband but she seems happy with him and they appear to have a decent lifestyle. Plenty of people I would not want to be married to who are happily coupled. You have no idea what he is like outside of fabricated (social)media drama, so yes YABU.

UndertheCedartree · 15/11/2023 18:54

She seems as insufferable as him. When she met him he drunk too much, drove dangerously and was abusive...but he had a 5 bedroom house so that was ok! Poor her was living in a 'shoebox' (probably the size of most people's family home) in west London! 🤢

CormorantStrikesBack · 15/11/2023 18:54

She’s very probably of a similar character to him. Because this parking thing wasn’t a one off. She’s the sort of person that stays married to a nasty, nasty man. So either she’s ok with it or there’s such a level of domestic abuse going on that she’s scared to leave him.
