I would divorce my husband if he behaved like Giles Coren did

I read an article in the Mail on Monday about how Giles Coren abused his neighbour who is the mother of an autistic child by pretending to be a delivery driver to gain access to her house in a row about parking. I am the mother of an ASD child and would divorce my husband if he behaved like this. I can’t believe someone who is employed by the BBC has so little control over himself. No wonder he was issued with a police caution. His poor neighbour.

Interesting reading, there's a real vibe of a woman who thinks she can fix a man and so ignores some clear red flags at the start of the relationship

I wonder whether now she's older and more experienced if she regrets not holding out for someone who didn't need an emotional support human

AInightingale · 15/11/2023 17:31

Why on earth would his neighbour paint a Star of David or a swastika on his house? Has she been known for antisemitic abuse? What a horrible assumption to make about someone, and to use unfounded fears around his ethnicity being targeted as an excuse for his behaviour, honestly, what a bellend.

gotomomo · 15/11/2023 17:31

I'm not sure he is on the bbc now, he was replaced this year. He is witty on screen but his private (or not so private) life is a bit concerning.

Victoria however is apparently lovely, know people who know her and David via their dd, they live a pretty quiet life but are pleasant, friendly and very normal

I think he has severe anger management issues and needs immediate help. Have thought so ever since he wrote an unhinged rant to the subs at the Times ( I think) which everybody thought was funny, but I thought was seriously deranged. Then there was the time he created a fake Polish Twitter account to send antisemitic messages to his critics and defend his wife... He is bananas.

The Guardian published that letter to the Times subs. It’s quite something.

You can tell an awful lot about a person by who their friends are (and who they choose to marry).

He shouldn't be employed by the BBC

He isn't employed by the BBC anymore

iklboo · 15/11/2023 17:34

He's an unmitigated wankpuffin

JemimaTab · 15/11/2023 17:34

He also did a pretty awful article about his son’s circumcision for Esquire, but that seems to have been scrubbed from the internet.
The queasy article about taking his daughter on holiday is still on the Times website though (but you need a subscription).

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2023 17:35

The more I hear about him the worse it gets - which is saying something because he's a utterly vile wanker to start with.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 15/11/2023 17:36

So that’s why his daughter never talks to him.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/11/2023 17:36

@eastsheener

Good to know, I thought he still was!

TheTecknician · 15/11/2023 17:36

It appears the man has no boundaries or filter, at the very least.

Tinysoxxx · 15/11/2023 17:38

Has anyone mentioned the shower hose yet?

Arthur2shedsJackson · 15/11/2023 17:43

And his brother-in-law is Alexander Armstrong. I wonder how they get on?

MorrisZapp · 15/11/2023 17:44

I enjoy quite a bit of his writing but he's definitely shady af.

This morning on the radio he said the SNP are playing to their huge anti semitic power base, and nobody challenged him or asked him what he meant.

SparklingSparkle · 15/11/2023 17:44

My god that’s awful. He’s appalling.

How do You know this?

WeightWhat · 15/11/2023 17:47

We all KNOW exactly what kind of man Giles Coren would be. No surprise.

His wife will know too but will trade standards for status.

Lentilweaver · 15/11/2023 17:51

I realise mental health is not straightforward, but I often wonder why privileged men like him are so angry. He had a fantastic education, has a great job that most people would kill for ( which he arguably did not have to work hard for), an attractive young wife, a large house in London, lovely children, the opportunity to eat out often in a CoL crisis, a close well-knit family.... what about all this makes you disproportionately angry all the time?

It's not just him. I often wonder this about people who seem to have every advantage.

His own articles. Where he talks quite a lot about his son, but frequently makes sly asides about his daughter’s non-communication. I realise this may be journalistic licence but it’s a somewhat peculiar picture, when taken with the snarky undertow of his writing.

CurlewKate · 15/11/2023 17:53

He is utterly appalling. And he collects gollywogs. Unfortunately he is also a slick and witty writer.

thepetrellies · 15/11/2023 17:53

Bad as that is, it's not the worst thing he's ever done.

Entitled. Narcissistic. Arrogant. Man.

laclochette · 15/11/2023 17:54

He is absolutely awful. In addition to the stories that make the press I've heard plenty of disgusting stories from people who've had to deal with him personally.
