Dave Cameron is back in the cabinet…. desperate throw of the dice or inspired move to limit the inevitable defeat?

If David Cameron is your solution then you really are in trouble.

verdantverdure · 13/11/2023 18:52

I've just seen Rishi Sunak described as "weak enough to qualify as a homeopathic remedy" Grin

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 13/11/2023 19:18

I was shocked to see him back also and so were lots of people. Cannot be much worse than the likes of Liz Truss or some of those there now. Be interesting to see how it all plays out. I just keep thinking of the time he left his child in the pub and forgot the child....

Throwhandsupintheair · 13/11/2023 20:08

He started the chain of event ls that brought us here.

It was his unnecessary austerity which caused misery and decimated our public services, rendering them unable to cope during Covid. Many were plunged in to poverty.

Then he blamed the EU for causing all of this.

Then he held a referendum that has driven the entire country to poverty and turned us into an international laughing stock run by crazy people. He skipped off to a shepherd hut whistling before grifting for Greensill.

People like Braverman, Cummings, 30p Lee, Rees Mogg, Sunak, Coffey, Truss would never have come close to the positions of power they held, if it wasn’t for him.

This is a desperate attempt to woo blue wall remainers. It’s too late. We’ve been abused for too long in despair whilst watching our country circle the plug hole by nihilists for the amusement of other cheerleading nihilists who pretend they’re patriots. Fuck him and fuck the Tory party.

Throwhandsupintheair · 13/11/2023 20:15

It tells us a hell of a lot that Sunak could not find one half decent person in his entire group of 350 MPs to be Foreign Secretary for about 6 months until a general election. That is how bad this lot are. A bunch of crazy headbangers.

He’s now brought in grifter Cameron so they can pretend they are more moderate and hang on for a few more months whilst they rob the country fucking blind. They will strip us bare and salt the earth before the next administration comes in.

baroqueandblue · 13/11/2023 20:35

Feels like we're in a time/mind warp (and not in a good way) đŸ¤¯

MotherofPearl · 13/11/2023 20:48

Well said @Throwhandsupintheair

hideoushideoushideous · 13/11/2023 21:41

Anyone is an improvement on Braverman though. And Boris must be spitting chips.

With the dozens of ministers required to fill all of the vacancies, approximately 20-25% of the 350 are required.
As a serious question, do we think that (in modern politics) there is enough quality to find that number of people?

HRTQueen · 13/11/2023 23:34

I’ve just been listening to The Today Podcast it’s very clear no one had an inkling of this at all the top political journalists were not in the know (I’m sure many feel quite put out)

that’s very unusual for such big news to not leak

and very very different from what was happening under Boris Johnson’s time as PM

i think Rishi Sunak has possibly made quite a good move here to move away from the right of the party

Paul2023 · 14/11/2023 00:03

This isn’t my opinion but from another website;

Not the same Cameron who:

Decided that we did not need to invest in manufacturing industry, as that was a thing of the past?
Thought we could cosy up to Moscow and China as one party states led by dictators are the way forward?
Delayed spending on power generation infrastructure?
Delayed spending decisions relating to the deterrent?
Thought the era of conventional conflict was over and decided we no longer needed the things we have committed to NATO?
Overruled civil servants who told him not to put public money in Kid's Company - even if he was impressed by Mrs Blobby?
Was unable to tell the truth on matters as simple as buying a pasty at a railway station?

FFS! There must be lots of more suitable candidates.

newnamethanks · 14/11/2023 07:52

Maybe there are lots more suitable candidates Paul2023 but none of them are in the rancid Tory party. At least when DC trots off abroad there's a chance that those he's meeting will know who he is rather than someone to hand their coat to. What a shower.

Strings are being pulled. This wasn't a Rish! idea. Like the Windsor framework.

Nothing to do with saving the country. This is purely the Tory party in survival mode.

BIossomtoes · 14/11/2023 10:48

I think you’ll find that was Thatcher. Far be it from me to defend Dave but let’s not accuse him of stuff he hasn’t done, there’s plenty he is responsible for to go at.

Throwhandsupintheair · 14/11/2023 11:36

So Cameron’s first meeting as FS yesterday was with India. Interesting on multiple levels and increases my suspicion that we are about to see an escalation in corruption.

When DC was PM, he met Sunak’s FIL on a trade mission in India. Shortly after, Sunak, who had only been in politics 5 mins, was parachuted into one of the countries safest seats.

Sunak was then gifted the Chancellor role at the behest of Cummings(unelected), where he made a few decisions benefitting his family. He wanted a trade deal with India but it didn’t work out as the Indian’s wanted waived visas for their people whilst being strongly protectionist themselves. A situation which would never be tolerated in the hard right version of the Tory party.

In the meantime, Sunak’s FIL makes statements around removing workers rights. Apparently 70 he working weeks should be the norm.

Cameron (unelected) is then gifted a Lordship at the behest of Sunak (unelected PM). His first meeting is with India. This is a man who’s been involved in corruption. Note that as a Lord, he’s not answerable to the commons.

Sunak and Cameron scratching each others back for the financial benefit of their families.

Aren't you delighted we are no longer under the thumb of unelected bureaucrats?

There are plenty of countries around the world that would read that analysis, and them go:

"And your point is ?"

Brexit has allowed the UK to become just another country. We always were anyway, but at least there were some ups to the downs. Way to go brexiteers.

VikingVolva · 14/11/2023 13:03

The meeting with the Indian Foreign Minister must have been in the diary for months.

I doubt the timing of the reshuffle was based on the dates of his visit to London. And as Mr Jaishankar is actually already here as the official guest of the government (probably with a pretty full programme) they couldn't really have snubbed him by pulling his meeting with his counterpart

mrlistersgelfbride · 14/11/2023 14:03

It's an incredibly low bar but I was glad to see him. He's not as bad as what we've had since (I am very left).

Elastica23 · 14/11/2023 16:59

The thing is he made it bad by appeasing and then letting in the nutter/machiavellian right wingers/whingers and then fucking off himself in the wake of the devastation.

So he's returned to put it right ?

This is now Rish! new problem. If we have to have this unelected tosspot in our government then he starts by cleaning up his own mess. It really is the least he can do.

And that would the question put to him in every interview until it's done if we didn't have a comedy media in this country to report on our comedy government.

Araminta1003 · 14/11/2023 19:31

So do you think that is Rishi’s strategy? To use the next year to get closer to the EU again all in the name of worldwide stability concerns and Cameron will be the spokesperson?! If the EU know that there is in most likelihood an imminent change of Government they won’t engage.

What worries me the most is that the only thing that would help the Tory party with next year’s election is WW3.

Paul2023 · 15/11/2023 00:50

Every government becomes unpopular eventually. After 13/18 years they run out of ideas. Red tops like the Sun turn against them.
18 years of the Tories and 13 of Labour. The cycle continues.

Labour actually got less votes after each GE they won. Landslide in 1997, less votes in 2001, even less in 2005.

Voted out in 2010.

I don’t think Labour have it in the bad just yet. But the Tories will lose their big majority.

Yes, I'd rather have David Cameron as Foreign Secretary than have one of the ERG extremists setting off World War III between now and the next General Election.

Paul2023 · 15/11/2023 01:18

Whilst the economy needed fixing when Cameron became PM- his party ruined public services to a point they they still haven’t recovered from.

Wasn’t it something like 20 thousand police officers they got rid of ?
And in their wisdom offered redundancy to thousands of prisoner officers who jumped ship before it sank.
Result was massive loss of experience that will never be recovered.

Which makes the reason for enobling David Cameron ("we need his experience") all the more painful.
