When do you think it is acceptable to put up Christmas decorations and tree?

Because it's November.

And ... so what? 🤷‍♀️

As far as am aware there are no laws against decorating your own house as you please, regardless of what month it is.

'So what?' 'No laws against it' - a very mature response... Hmm

I think most sane people would consider early November far too soon to put up Christmas decorations. It really is you know.

emblemsaplenty · 11/11/2023 09:08

I can understand early December, just, but early November is ridiculous.

But there aren't. So why wouldn't a person put it up in November if it makes them happy?

And why on earth do you think your opinion would be of any consequence to them?

JNW11 · 11/11/2023 09:21

@emblemsaplenty I couldn't care if you think it's too early it doesn't affect you in any way shape or form if anybody else puts theirs up it still doesn't affect you unless it's your house,

I think you've missed the point. It's early November and ridiculous, I think the majority would agree, to be putting Christmas decorations up.

Look up the meaning of delayed self gratification, it might help if that's something you struggle with.

These people just want instant gratification. Learn to live in the here and now and appreciate each season in its entirety.

JNW11 · 11/11/2023 09:45

@emblemsaplenty hahaha I don't struggle with self gratification i simply enjoy decorating for Christmas I simply love my house with a Christmas tree up and if I could I would have it up all year round!! And tbh like I said it's my house my rules not anybody else's.

Ginmonkeyagain · 11/11/2023 09:46

It's a slippery slope OP - this year it's just Christmas tree up in mid November, in a couple of years you will be a full page spread in Take a Break explaining how you love to eat Christmas dinner every day.

Kakibob1924 · 11/11/2023 09:47

You shouldn’t have taken it down, just leave it up all year.

ConsuelaHammock · 11/11/2023 09:47

1st December at the earliest but you can do whatever you want.

Mine has been up a week because I love it

43ontherocksporfavor · 11/11/2023 09:58

@Ginmonkeyagain Spot on! In the 70s near my street, there was a man that used to put his tree up in November and he was known as Mad Bob. Now people seem to want to be seen as nutters!

crumblingschools · 11/11/2023 10:03

@JNW11 why wait until November if you love it so much, although as it is nowhere near Christmas surely they aren’t Christmas decorations, they are just decorations

You better not say that on this thread you'll get your head taken off 🤣

Because I
Want to put it up in November plus we do so much Christmas activities with the kids all through November and December so why not!

RedToothBrush · 11/11/2023 10:15

I used to say 1st Dec but for practical reasons (as in I'm normally so busy in December) I've softened that to the last weekend of November (which often is the start of advent anyway). I'm not budging from that because it early anyway and by the time I've got to 12 night it's 'time'. Otherwise it spoils the magic.

You'd have a plastic Christmas tree up all year round if you could? Oh but you can. In your own words it's your house and your rules, and no laws prohibiting it.

Wink

But people will judge you for Christmas decorations up in November. This thread being prime example.

Elphame · 11/11/2023 10:55

As a society we seem to have lost the ability to just "live in the moment" and enjoy what currently is.

Shops start filling with Christmas tat in August and by the time Christmas actually comes, the shelves are being cleared to be replaced by Valentine tat and chocolate eggs.

No time to enjoy anything- just look ahead to the next thing. And the next. And the next.
