When do you think it is acceptable to put up Christmas decorations and tree?

Up Christmas Eve, down the 27 December.

UsingChangeofName · 10/11/2023 16:54

Middle of December here, but in your house, do what you want.
Doesn't really affect anyone else.

orchardsquare · 10/11/2023 16:54

Of course it's too early! If you really want you could put some plain white lights up outside, and maybe an outdoor tree. You will be sick of the sight of it if you have it indoors now and surely it will get in the way.

FionnulaTheCooler · 10/11/2023 16:55

Mines going up tomorrow.

Yup. I wouldn't want to start Christmas stuff early- it would spoil it for me to drag it out for a month or more. I'd be bored with the whole thing by Christmas Day!

Universalsnail · 10/11/2023 16:56

December

Tinaforshort · 10/11/2023 16:57

Meh, mine went up last weekend. No I won’t be sick of the sight of it by Christmas and no, it doesn’t come down Boxing Day - we usually take it down the first day the kids are back at school so will be 05/01.

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/11/2023 16:58

Honestly what is wrong with people? Christmas is not in November. Fairy lights are used all year so yeah brighten up the garden or house but the clue is in the name for Christmas trees and Christmas decs.

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/11/2023 17:00

Plus it only happens on Mumsnet. I have never seen decs or trees up on my dog walks before December.

MummyMumMumMummy · 10/11/2023 17:02

Around about now for us, but we take it down on the 27th/28th as DD’s birthday is 31st and we want to celebrate her birthday in the least Christmassy way. So we take the tree down and start getting back to normal ready for her birthday 😂

skyeisthelimit · 10/11/2023 17:10

YABU. It is November

A week before Christmas. It is a Christmas Tree. It is November currently, which is not Christmas.

PupInAPram · 10/11/2023 16:54

Up Christmas Eve, down the 27 December.

Everyone’s different but I find this extreme- I can’t imagine going to all the hassle of getting the tree down/buying a fresh one, nearly initiating a divorce after rowing with DH about how he untangles the fairy lights and decorating the thing only to take it all down again 3 days later.

AuntBeef · 10/11/2023 17:17

1st December 🎄

DappledThings · 10/11/2023 17:22

As long as you don't take it down before Twelfth Night.

MasterBeth · 10/11/2023 17:23

Do what you like.

Also, now is way too early. Wait until December.

And if she does ... ?

The rules about when other people put up a tree have been overtaken by an acknowledgement that you can do it when you like, but only if you bow to somebody else's schedule of when to take it down instead. Apparently.

True. Mumsnetters only exist online after all.

Then she'd be doing wrong. And I'd judge her!

Which is immaterial, but remains the case. I'll always judge people who take their decorations down early and nobody can stop me 😂

Underthemagnificentbeechtree · 10/11/2023 17:40

It’s too early for me, but I do feel so dreary that I do understand the temptation. In our house we always end up with a tree that’s slightly too big and have to rearrange stuff so we generally do 2nd weekend in December and down before the kids go back to school (even if that’s before twelfth night). If everyone in your house is on board then go for it!

43ontherocksporfavor · 10/11/2023 17:42

See, it’s gloomy out so I have candles and my garden solar lights are glowing because it was sunny today. I also have stylish lamps around the house and a fire if I want it. Do people think Christmas decs are the only way to bring warmth to their lives? How sad.

crispcreambun · 10/11/2023 17:43

I’d probably just chuck some twinkly fairy lights up for now but save the whole tree and whatnot for December. But it’s your house, so do what makes you happy. I spotted a sparkling Christmas tree in the window of a flat near where I live a few days ago.

ghostyslovesheets · 10/11/2023 17:44

Up around the the second weekend in December down on the weekend after New Year

I have fairy lights, candles etc this time of year to brighten things up.

qotsa · 10/11/2023 17:44

squashyhat · 10/11/2023 16:27

The weekend before the 25th December. This year I will make an exception and say 16th.

See I used to do this but then it was so much time to do it and looks so pretty I thought stuff it and do it the start of December now.

MonaDaVinci · 10/11/2023 17:48

Whenever you like. Go for it!

Gonksmum · 10/11/2023 17:49

IMO it's far too early. I like to put it up 20th December-ish as it feels much more Chrismassy then. Up to you what you do, though!
