When do you think it is acceptable to put up Christmas decorations and tree?

I don't do all the decorating in one go - I'll probably start on Dec 2nd (the first Sat in Dec this year), and will gradually add more over the following two weeks, culminating in The Tree around the 16th.

Love a real tree as I cut the lower, wide branches off to use on mantle piece and cupboards etc. Plus the smell is divine.

Snap @Inextremis . I’ll put the door wreath up early December plus some warm white lights outside. The rest and tree will be a week or two before Christmas.

Your house your rulez, hun. 😀

ColouringPencils · 10/11/2023 19:22

There are a couple of houses near me with lights in the windows. I couldn't put it up so early, as I love the feeling of anticipation and would miss it if I went too soon. Mid-December for me. Also, we haven't really got the space, so that makes a difference. I could do some fairy lights earlier. Whatever brings you joy!

PurpleSky09 · 10/11/2023 19:29

I’ll be putting mine up soon. And I take them down early too Grin always take them down before new year as like to start the new year without Christmas decs up. Each to their own!

Sux2buthen · 10/11/2023 19:29

Doing ours this weekend, can't wait Grin
Got a lot of Christmas stuff, it's the best time of the year in this house

I think Christmas is the best time of the year, not now.

yellowlane · 10/11/2023 19:39

Go for it! Earliest I've put it up was middle of November the Covid year when dc, then dh then me had Covid and still had to isolate. 3 weeks in total nearly so out if boredom we did it.

Why can’t those with birthdays around Christmas have Christmas decs up on their birthday?? I’d love that. You can’t pretend it’s not Christmas time and everywhere they go it will still be Christmas.

I think it depends on the person. My DD’s is the 28th December and she has always loved having Christmas decorations up on her birthday. She has always had birthday balloons and banners too, the more the merrier in our house.

wiffin · 10/11/2023 19:54

If you put if up now you will probably need to dust it. Which is beyond weird.

Wait until December.

The fuck? Who dusts a Christmas tree?

crumblingschools · 10/11/2023 20:18

If you put it up now don't then complain on Boxing Day it has been up too long

Anonymouseposter · 10/11/2023 20:33

Peony15 · 10/11/2023 21:22

Probably weekend of the 16th, December that is ! Will
have to
purchase one at least 2 weeks beforehand and keep in garden until then. People put
their trees up earlier and earlier each year, especially tall ones sell
out.
Will have other Christmas decor from 1st Advent , wreath, door wreath, growing amarillys, candles paperchains etc. but nothing before.
Saw some shops in London in October e.g Harvey Nichols with trees outside.
Madness.

Highlyflavouredgravy · 10/11/2023 21:25

Those of you who do it supercearly for the cheer, would you not just go hygge and have fairy lights and candles and cosy blankets and save the tree for actual Christmas?

wiffin · 10/11/2023 21:28

MasterBeth · 10/11/2023 20:15

That was the point. Nobody dusts a Christmas tree. Because it isn't up long enough.

(Also because it's the most ridiculous thing)

Anonymouseposter · 10/11/2023 21:34

jc12689 · 10/11/2023 20:38

i go with the original tradition of putting the tree up quite close to Christmas Eve and leaving it up for the 12 days of Christmas.
I know that most people put their tree up earlier but fairly early in November is a long way from Christmas.
As I sad, everyone can put their tree up whenever they want.

Boomchuck · 10/11/2023 22:00

Always up the first Sunday of advent here. We celebrate St Nicholas day on the 6th, so it’s nice to have it up in time for that.

Caerulea · 10/11/2023 22:06

Whenever makes you happy. That's it really 😊

Elphame · 10/11/2023 22:16

It will be the 17th December here - the weekend before the solstice
