To shout "GO!" to your wife at roundabouts?

Okay so maybe this isn't exactly earth shattering in importance but interested to get opinions!

DH is a very confident driver. He does a lot of miles with work, he loves driving, he is really top notch in that department, I don't deny.

I am what I would call a safe driver, and what he calls slow. And whilst being very competent behind the wheel is one of his strengths, being patient in the passenger seat isn't.

Recently this has resulted in him, when I pull up to a roundabout, shouting to me "GO! GO!"

This has two effects. One, my brain goes "aaah go stop go stop what am I doing!!!" and second, I get an overwhelming urge to rip off the steering wheel and hit him over the head with it.

Now, he says - well, if there is a space you need to go, so just listen to me!! And hurry up!?

I say - ahhhh shut up you bossy bossy boots!!

AIBU in my reaction?

If you are a bit dithery Get him to do all the driving

Why??

Canisaysomething · 08/11/2023 18:46

You are confusing confidence and arrogance. He is an arrogant driver and an arrogant dangerous passenger.

Jewelspun · 08/11/2023 18:46

I can't stand it when someone dithers but shouting at them isn't going to improve their confidence.

In future let him do all the driving.

Munchyseeds2 · 08/11/2023 18:47

I wouldn't be driving him anywhere ever

AtrociousCircumstance · 08/11/2023 18:47

He is what I would call a prick, and you I would call unfortunate to be afflicted with him.

What he’s doing is dangerous, arrogant, and stupid.

HangingOver · 08/11/2023 18:47

My DP shouts "STOP!" If a car twenty meters ahead of us put their breaks on. He also gives me directions to places I've been to hundreds of times. He "can't help it" apparently.

PragmaticWench · 08/11/2023 18:48

He is fucking dangerous!! He's also a massive bellend about this, hopefully not in other areas.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 08/11/2023 18:48

My DH is like this. I now refuse to drive him. Whatever the journey length I will not split the journey. Out for meals, I drink and he has to drive. Car in garage? He need to get the bus. Fuck him!

Absolutely the opposite! She needs to carry on driving so as not to lose confidence. Preferably without the idiot in the passenger seat.

GrittyTunnocks · 08/11/2023 18:49

You need some lessons. Or do us a favour and let him drive.

BRAKES. JFC.

Harrysmummy246 · 08/11/2023 18:50

Cannot stand DH giving me his opinions on my driving or when it's safe or why people should or shouldn't let us into a gap. That and telling me what I should or shouldn't say to someone. Anything else I can let slide but those.....

quivers · 08/11/2023 18:51

Bloody hell, it's a no from me.

I would be enraged and find somewhere to pull over. I would then invite him to either shut the fuck up or get out and walk.

CarPour · 08/11/2023 18:51

To be fair I shout go at dithery drivers at roundabouts. But they obviously cant hear me

He shouldn't be shouting at you while you are driving. It's stupid and you can't just go on his say so.

No she doesn't. She says she's a safe driver, she never said she 'dithers'. She's just not as fast as her DH.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/11/2023 18:52

One reason I don't drive is because I know 100% my H would be exactly like this. He articulates about other drivers the whole time I'm in the car and consequently it isn't a pleasure to go on anything long distance .

Almondmum · 08/11/2023 18:52

I bet you a white BMW with a personalised number plate he's not as good a driver as you or he thinks he is

Errolwasahero · 08/11/2023 18:52

@GrittyTunnocks well aren’t you just a beautiful person. 🙄

Shutthedoormargaret · 08/11/2023 18:16

I think he should shut the fuck up when you're driving. Or he can drive himself.

This. Impatient twat.

Holidayhell22 · 08/11/2023 18:53

I agree you should tell him to stfu.
I had an ex who behaved like this.
Note he is an ex. He was probably worse than your dh, but I told him if he ever behaved like that in the car again then it would be the last time and I would not be driving with him in the car.

KenIsAnAccessory · 08/11/2023 18:57

Goodness me, what a prick. Him, not you.

Mischance · 08/11/2023 18:58

Iam4eels · 08/11/2023 18:18

Driver judges whether they have a safe gap, passenger shuts their cake hole.

Precisely.

My OH stopped driving for medical reasons and I had to do all the driving. If he started doing stuff like this I would ignore him completely and eventually he gave up doing it.

Tinysarah1985 · 08/11/2023 18:59

My husband did it once, I pulled over and told him to get out and walk home.

Autiebibliophile · 08/11/2023 18:59

What a ridiculous dangerous thing to do. I'd refuse to drive him until he stops

YoureALizardHarry11 · 08/11/2023 18:59

He sounds like a complete wanker. That is all 🤣
