To not cancel our wedding because DS has COVID

CheeseCrackers45 · 07/11/2023 13:28

Hi all. 1 year old son has had a bit of a cough for about a week. He's a bit tired but otherwise well. No fever, happily playing etc. Went to the GP today just in case it was another chest infection (he's already had several). Turns out he has COVID.

Here's the kicker... Me and DSs dad are due to get married on Thursday and DS is obviously attending 😅 We've taken tests and so far they are negative. My colleague is saying I'm being selfish by not cancelling the wedding. Me and my partner have decided to go ahead with it, but of course will be telling all guests that DS has COVID and letting them make their own decision about attending.

YANBU - no you shouldn't cancel
YABU - You should cancel

There’s no debating with you, I hope you are free from myocarditis. I was talking about the test not covid. Even Karey Mullins says it’s not fit for purpose. More people died of pneumonia in 2017 than ever died from covid. I know you will call me out on that but it’s on the government website. Bye bye.

yeah, you know covid causes pneumonia, right?

There is also only 10 cases of children getting Covid And none of a child passing it on.

@threatmatrix 😂

Oh dear, you should really think about that statement. Pneumonia and flu disappeared during the pandemic. 🙄funny that isn’t it. You still haven’t commented on the tests which is what I was originally posting about until you trusted what I said.

Mamoun · 09/11/2023 15:32

Of course don't cancel!

Differencesclear · 09/11/2023 15:37

Have you seen the post you made back at in 2020 @threatmatrix
did Karey Millen tell you that? 😂

Maddy70 · 09/11/2023 15:45

Hope you have a wonderful derful wedding day today

lemmein · 09/11/2023 16:00

There is no drama in OP informing guests that her child has been unwell. No drama at all.
I went to a wedding this summer where the very young nephew of the bride was just about well enough between chemo to attend the ceremony. If his parents hadn't created 'drama' to ensure he was not consciously put under extra risk then there is no way they would have gone. As it was, every guest was absolutely willing to respond to the 'drama' by testing before they attended.

@CharlotteBog whatever makes people feel in control I suppose. The efficacy of LFTs is about 50% for those without symptoms - add to that user error and those who may have pretended to comply with the request - I would suggest the largest benefit of the precautions taken was to reduce anxiety about a vulnerable youngster attending.

Out of interest, how many didn't attend due to a positive result?

Out of interest, do you have a source for that stat?

Enjoy your day!

Schools don’t request staff or pupils to test for Covid now or to inform them if you have it. Kids will be among it daily at the moment. It’s just another seasonal bug.

Yep, here:

www.evidentlycochrane.net/rapid-point-of-care-tests-for-diagnosing-covid-19-infection/

Though it's 55% according to that link- still not great!

"Went to the GP today just in case it was another chest infection" - it IS just another chest infection.

🤦🏻‍♀️ it could have been bacterial and requiring antibiotics. Covid (and others) are viral.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a baby to the doctor if you’re worried.

Jeannie88 · 09/11/2023 19:17

No restrictions for covid now but letting people know is of course the right thing to do. Had he not had a test no one would know but good that he has, for him and as a precaution for vulnerable people. Everyone can choose if they will attend, attend with masks and precautions etc. It's your wedding, a day for and your partner to celebrate, whether all.or some in attendance, your choice. Xx

depends on the school, ours still insists on 5 days off

Str0ngH3art · 09/11/2023 19:33

But they won’t be insisting you test or inform them if you do. It’s 5 days if you test and inform them, you are under no obligation to do so.So if you choose not to test ( and most don’t now) it’s no different to any other bug.

DottyLottieLou · 09/11/2023 19:39

People who think covid is a cold = morons

Casperroonie · 09/11/2023 19:44

Go ahead! You're not doing anything against "rules". You don't even have to test now.

ttcat37 · 09/11/2023 20:05

Ace56 · 07/11/2023 13:29

No I wouldn’t cancel. Tbh I probably wouldn’t even tell the guests that your baby is positive…Covid is basically just a cold now.

Except for the people for whom it’s not.

How did it ruin her life? unless she has sadly died, she will likely recover fully, two weeks is no time all, it took me 4 weeks, a friend who ended up in ICU is now completely fine.

Oh that’s great. I had it 9 months ago, developed Long Covid and I still can’t work a full week. On top of my kids and caring for elderly parents I am shattered and ill. It’s completely ruined my year, which will be the last year of my dad’s life.

MrsB74 · 09/11/2023 20:07

I hope everything went well. I know someone who got married last year (fairly big wedding) despite testing positive herself - she wasn’t that ill!
