To be put off by date eating pub leftovers

I have never posted on here before so please be gentle! 😉 I just wanted some honest opinions from people. I've been seeing a man for a number of months. We went out yesterday to a pub for something to eat, at lunchtime. When we got there, the table next to us hadn't been cleared yet and there was quite a bit of food left on plates. I asked him what he wanted to eat for lunch, and he said he would just eat some leftover toast and sausages from the uncleared table. I thought he was joking and laughed. But he actually meant it. He took two pieces of left over, cold toast and some sausages and proceeded to eat them, with no plate. I said I would buy him lunch and he didn't need to eat leftovers! He said he couldn't stand wasted food. I ordered my own lunch and ate it, alone, as he had already gobbled up the leftovers from the people who had left. Would this put you off someone? Or should I more be accommodating?! In all honesty, it made me feel very uncomfortable and I found it very unattractive. How would this make you feel, can I ask? Look forward to hearing what people think. For context, he has never done this before, but has alluded to wanting to do it when we've been to other places. I asked him yesterday if he was worried that someone's saliva might be on the leftover food, but he said he couldn't care less.

That is truly revolting, eating from a stranger's plate.
I couldn't get past this, and would wonder what other awful habits he has.Sorry, that would be it for me.

Mandy90d · 12/11/2023 11:25

Honestly I would of walked out and left him to eat his leftovers in peace. How embarrassing!!

Hydrangeasneedtrimming · 12/11/2023 11:34

I seriously thought you were going to say he polished off your leftovers but to finish other customers' leftovers is so grim. I would get rid. Disgusting!!

Goldieremson · 12/11/2023 11:44

No that is very unattractive your right.. somethin he might do with the boys as a silly joke which I still think would be awful but on a date is hurrendous an then u sat an ate lunch while he just there bcuz he had eaten off someone else leftover plate. No I wudnt want to carry on seeing him, that's so trampy.. NEXT PLEASE xxx

Findinganewme · 12/11/2023 12:25

Is he really struggling for money? If he’s facing tough times, or is generally not very comfortable financially, then my heart would really be broken by seeing this.

if that’s not the case, then it’s absolute NO from me. Yuck.

AM1972 · 12/11/2023 12:40

so what... you've been dating for a couple of months and you're going to let a couple of slices of toast and a left over sausage determine your future...BOOO!!!

YOU'VE GOT TO ACCEPT THE DEFECTS ALONG WITH THE APPEALING TRAITS IN ANY RELATIONSHIP - I'M SURE YOU HAVE A FEW UNDESIRABLE CHARACTER DEFECTS 🤔

Teambluemuma13 · 12/11/2023 15:11

Gives me the ick.... but... I'm a manager who works in hospitality and a colleague who is also a manager, eats food that is left over that comes back to the kitchen. At first I thought he was joking but he actually did it! He is genuinely one of the nicest blokes you'll meet. Any woman would be lucky to have him.
So what I'm trying to say is, is it really something that ends a relationship? Maybe worth a conversation that it makes you uncomfortable could he not do it whilst dining out with you but if he is passionate about minimal waste he can 'indulge' whilst you aren't there.

Mugaloaf · 12/11/2023 18:25

That is so gross 🤮

That would put me right off

It's a shame that this reflects the pretentious and self-righteousness of the society we live in...DISGRACEFUL!!

I someone doesn't live up to the standards that the 98% expect - by eating perfectly good leftover food then my hats off to him.

I suspect you are the man the OP dumped for eating pub leftovers? You should date someone who finds this behaviour acceptable.

AM1972 · 13/11/2023 17:34

Perhaps you should try sleeping rough for several years - no home, no money and no stability in life - it's a matter of survival and a very humbling experience.

Women don't have to date men who behave antisocially because of homelessness.

AM1972 · 13/11/2023 18:07

No, they shouldn't... they should date the status Quo of fine civilised members if the community and not victims who don't fit in...

They can date whoever they want and it doesn't have to be you. Deal with it.

jac67 · 14/11/2023 09:58

Definitely not being unreasonable, thats disgusting at any time but with covid and flu doing the rounds its also very stupid and unhealthy.

Lol 😂 We have gone from a total pig who has no idea how to behave to homelessness 🤣

It’s not about toast and sausages. It’s about a pig with no idea how to behave, no idea about normal social practices and no self awareness. I don’t think the OP wants a trough in her kitchen for her partner. 🐷🤣

So would you allow your child to go round a cafe picking up and eating leftovers left on the tables?

AM1972 · 14/11/2023 15:19

Depends the quality of the LEFTOVERS 🤔

He's definitely a pig if he didn't rustle up some sort desert as well.

Half eaten spotted dick and custard would have gone well with sausages and toast.

Yes, I’d encourage my child to go only for leftover vegan food 😂

You’re right. He’s not very resourceful, is he? 😆

GasPanic · 14/11/2023 15:35

Forager Fred would be the guy I would want on my team in a zombie apocalypse though.

He'd be bringing back delicacies like bits of badger and mouldy peas while Aseptic Alan would have died from starvation 6 months prior.

AM1972 · 14/11/2023 16:13

AGREE...mine field the tables and progress to the bins before invading the kitchen pot wash... however bad manners not to leave a tip before ordering a TAXI for your companion.
