You could include the pic of it on the site you originally bought it from - to show product details and original cost to demonstrate the value?

Tohaveandtohold · 03/11/2023 13:57

I buy a lot on Vinted but Wouldn’t have looked at the listing twice. I’ve only ever paid more than £10 for a very large kids clothes bundle, I’ll never pay more than £7 for that. I looked on your Vinted page and everything you have there is overpriced. That all saints top looks like it’s honestly only fit to be given as a donation because the way you took the picture, it appears discoloured, I can’t believe you want that amount for it. You need to take better pictures and price realistically

Blinkityblonk · 03/11/2023 13:59

I keep nice items for myself, I have a beautiful wool coat (older though, as I hate polyester coats) I got for £7 this year, people have them stored and aren't using them, so it's still £7 for them, something lovely for me.

I have bought and resold but the margin is too low now and I don't need the money. I did do that on Vinted when prices were higher but the market is saturated. I only did it for fun anyway, buying at a local car boot for 50p an item and selling on.

chickenpieandchips · 03/11/2023 14:03

I think I need to re-price the coat I have on Vinted now...item as new £120 so what do you think I could get (hardly worn, photo on hanger).
And for the poster asking about 2nd hand gifts. I got my son a north face puffer on Vinted. £80 vs £220. He was chuffed even though he knew it was preloved.

Blinkityblonk · 03/11/2023 14:07

@chickenpieandchips I would see what others are selling it for, similar items. Nice brands like Cos and Toast coats sell for higher, so it may not be similar to this particular item. I never take their recommendation (the one that pops up when you list) as it's too low, I price realistic but at the upper end, but my photos are fab, I have a mannequin and I make sure I take them of front, back, any details, labels and add in my own description of the item (e.g. if I tried it and it came up big). I also tell the truth if I bought it off Vinted and it wasn't quite right for me and I've sold everything I ever bought that didn't work out that way, usually within a day or two. Then I've only lost postage and a couple of quid on a £40 item.

VWdieselnightmare · 03/11/2023 14:08

It's a downmarket brand aimed at young urban males. Why would you think any young dude would want to buy a coat modelled by someone like his mum? Have you never heard of marketing, OP?

Get a lad of the right type to model it in an urban setting. You might get lucky.

chickenpieandchips · 03/11/2023 14:16

@Blinkityblonk thanks. Nothing similar but other items from this brand go on for a slightly more premium price. It has 7 favourites and already had a few cheeky offers. I'll keep at that price for another week and then reduce!

Fusterclucked · 03/11/2023 14:17

I would not buy it at all because it looks a bit crap.
take a picture of it on a hanger and list for £12 - might have more luck

Cosywintertime · 03/11/2023 14:22

Lilq5 · 03/11/2023 13:53

I think it's just bad photography/lighting as the stuffing is fine IRL.

But people don’t know that op. They can only go on the pic. And the pic shows wrinkles down it, where the stuffing has displaced, making it look old and worn, that’s why folks think it looks scruffy. In new or barely worn puffers the stuffing is smooth and gives a smooth rounded appearance.

PinkArt · 03/11/2023 14:30

God bless you OP, the third picture looks like it's from some sort of hostage situation! Definitely new photos - on a hangar, that don't make it look as un-puffed or wonky as it does currently - but also drop the price as it just looks like a generic black coat and I can't see it selling for more than £15 tops.

Lilq5 · 03/11/2023 14:43

What about these pictures? They are also on the listing but are the second and third across. I think the side view one is OK and wouldn't look out of place on the website itself? It looks alot less 'deflated' than picture #1 and better quality.

Edit: corrected a spelling error.

I'm going to pop it on ebay at £15 minus the first picture and see how I get on there.

Blinkityblonk · 03/11/2023 14:50

OP, it's a man's coat. Find a man or find a hanger and photograph it on that.

Mumaway · 03/11/2023 15:07

Maybe £10, assuming it's not real down or some fancy waterproof fabric?

Lilq5 · 03/11/2023 15:20

I've had another look at the coat this afternoon and I think I can see where some of you are coming from as it does look a bit creased in areas.

Does anybody know the best way to bring it back to life a bit? I've never tried to iron a puffer coat before and I'm a bit worried I could ruin it. I don't own a steamer. Are creases par for the course of these sort of coats?

OP is clearly just trying to use MN to flog her tat.

I thought that was against regs? I personally don’t want MN to be full of people trying to sell used clothes….

I thought the same thing! Maybe I’ll start a thread of a dress I’m trying to sell on Vinted for 8 quid. Anything for more viewsGrin

PerspiringElizabeth · 03/11/2023 13:44

Honestly just charity shop it, I find once things have been on Vinted more than about a week they never sell! Is it reeeeeally worth it for a tenner, you’ve spent a lot of time posting and thinking about it!

Not true at all in my experience. I just bought a pair of branf new UGG gloves for £45 that had been on the site for 4 months. Originally £145 on the UGG website.

I also just sold a pair of trainers for £15 and that had been on the site for nearly a month. You never know who’ll come along looking!

The second picture is SO not serious imo. Is there a reason why you’re against putting the coat on a hanger and hanging it on a door? These pictures are not great at all I don’t know what else posters can say to you.

It is a man’s coat. Presumably a man will be buying it so wouldn’t the buyer want an idea of how it may look on him? They don’t need to see how the coat looks on a woman that doesn’t fit her

Lilq5 · 03/11/2023 15:29

I'm not against putting it on a hanger / door at all, hence asking for some advice on how to 'bring it back to life' a bit first as it has been stored in a cupboard for the best part of three months and looks a bit sad and creased.

The picture of the back looks like you're naked underneath!

I have revived down coats by putting them in the tumble drier on low in a laundry bag for 20 mins. Not sure if it works the same for polyester filling.

Sexlivesofthepotatomen · 03/11/2023 15:45

I'm starting to think this has been posted to wind everyone up! You've had plenty of advice about better pictures OP but you keep posting even worse ones. For the sake of £20, do everyone a favour and charity shop it

DuchessOfSausage · 03/11/2023 15:49

I don't think it looks like it's has much wear and it looks cosy and light.
the selling features are the length and high collar.

The photos don't do it justice

No it hasn't. Why would anybody do that? I'm sure the trolls have more interesting things to make up, better than a bloody coat.

Feel free to report my thread If that's what you think. MNHQ will tell you they've already spoken to me and there is nothing amiss.

Thank you I will give it a try. I just read something about putting it in with tennis balls (or dryer balls - whichever)

And no I'm not naked underneath. The picture was taken in the summer. I'm wearing a knee length jumpsuit.

Thank you 😊 it is a great coat and a sad sale. My DP barely had any wear out of it at all.
