I bought a similar cost brand new in a nice colour in a better cut for £70.

Second hand, bad cut, black? Yeah £10 maximum. But your problem muht be that you’re selling a man’s item on a site mostly used by women.

A black coat is versatile and can go with pretty much anything, plus it's timeless. White, camel or brighter colours tend to clash with lots.

I bought a long black puffer on there for £30 plus postage, the Emma willis women's one from next. I thought that was a fair price for something that I'll get alot of wear from.

Why are you so bothered op? You tried. It hasn't sold. Take it to the charity shop.

I'll give it a week or so at a lower price and if it still doesn't sell then I'll donate it yes.

OP is clearly just trying to use MN to flog her tat.

I thought that was against regs? I personally don’t want MN to be full of people trying to sell used clothes….

Can you tell me how it looks done in? It's barely worn?

Must be the image then, It doesn’t look new op.

No I'm not. I'll ask for the thread to be moved to S&B then.

I would rephotograph it on a hanger, check the lighting (it looks a tiny bit faded and saggy for some reason), and take a photo of the label. Put it on for £10 and pray, you won't get a tenner anyway.

If you paid £30 for an Emma Willis puffa coat, that's quite a bit for that particular brand, I know as I sold a jacket of hers for £12.50 recently, and she hasn't made anything for a few years.

I know my Vinted, I know what shifts, do what you like but I don't think it's going to get your hand bitten off OP, sorry!

I buy on Vinted a lot and you won't get that much for that type of coat- they are very common, not rare, not a great brand, I'd take better pics, put it on for a tenner max (or £8.50) and take £7 for it. That's £7 you didn't have. If that's not enough for you to bother, give it to charity.

Vinted prices are low, and nothing much is selling on Ebay as a consequence. It's just realism. High end high street stuff like Cos or good bag brands still get ok prices, but they are still usually 1/4 of what the thing cost new.

I’m still selling well on eBay. I’m not in a hurry so I’m prepared to list for as long as it takes.

I’m selling things on £20 on eBay that would only fetch £5 on Vinted.

Lilq5 · 03/11/2023 11:54

Why not?

It looks incredibly scruffy. And you say only worn a few times, but it looks like it has been in daily use for many years.

Blinkityblonk · 03/11/2023 13:39

@wesurecouldstandgladioli that's good to know. I've noticed Vinted prices shifted down about 6 months ago quite suddenly, used to get much more, CoL? E-bay I find people are quite desperate and if I show any interest, they email me lots of times. Vinted seems to be more easy come easy go and prices are cheaper, I'd rather get rid of three items at £5 each than wait to shift one at £15 and have the rest clogging up my house, but I think either strategy is valid.

Donate to local homeless charity as looks lovely and warm🥰

Best suggestion yet.

If that's the picture you are using then I'm not surprised it isn't selling tbh.

😂 Spot on.

PerspiringElizabeth · 03/11/2023 13:44

Honestly just charity shop it, I find once things have been on Vinted more than about a week they never sell! Is it reeeeeally worth it for a tenner, you’ve spent a lot of time posting and thinking about it!

Vinted prices are cheaper I agree, but I tend to find what I need on eBay, despite always checking Vinted and ebid as well. I find that on Vinted as soon as I favourite something, the seller messages me which puts me off. On eBay, I find that when I ‘watch’ something, I get an offer. Sometimes the offer is only 5% off which is very unappealing, but they don’t message me, which I prefer.

urbanbuddha · 03/11/2023 13:46

People on Mumsnet can be so mean sometimes. It’s like there’s been an influx of Daily Mail readers.

The coat doesn’t look incredibly scruffy - it’s just not been photographed very well. It’ll fetch a tenner no problem, especially when the weather turns colder soon.

Lilq5 · 03/11/2023 13:47

I've had an exchange with Nadine from MNHQ and have agreed not to offer the coat for sale to anybody on the site, my apologies MNHQ

I buy and sell a lot on Vinted. That will never fetch £20. Even if it had never been worn. I would say if you genuinely want rid put it up for £7 and accept £5.

@wesurecouldstandgladioli I only tried Ebay once and the postage was a nightmare! That's why Vinted appeals especially if you just want to declutter rather than desperate for money.

Thank you. I think a few people have been unnecessarily unkind. DP wore that coat a maximum of three times, no idea how it could look as though it had been worn daily for years.

Have you just put the one pic? I sell quite a bit on eBay and put up pics of the front, back, inside, labels, washing instructions. It really makes a difference.

No there's a few pictures from different angles IE showing the side, back etc. I'm going to take some better pics definitely.

Op in the image of it new the stuffing is evenly distributed. In the image of yours it is not, giving it wrinkles and looking like it’s pulling down. This makes it look old and worn.

notlucreziaborgia · 03/11/2023 13:52

It’s very basic. Nothing about it would grab your eye as you’re scrolling, and in the event that you did give it a closer look, it appears scruffy.

There’s a good condition North Face puffer jacket on Vinted currently for £15. There’s Jacks Wills and Adidas for £2. £20 for this one, that isn’t (as far as I am aware) a desirable brand, seems way overpriced.

Blinkityblonk · 03/11/2023 13:52

I hate to let everyone in on my secret but I deliberately search for high quality/top end (on Vinted) stuff that has been badly presented and photographed and sat there for months and then make a low offer for it. I've got wool coats and nicer end bags like this. Black items often look terrible. I'll also take things that are crumpled but would iron. Only external stuff though like coats, jackets and bags, I wouldn't buy cotton tops/skirts like this as I prefer to by those new with tags (next to body).

I think it's just bad photography/lighting as the stuffing is fine IRL.

Fair enough! :)

Is that for selling on or do you keep them for yourself?
